I booked an evening tour as offered on their website, about 2 weeks prior to our Chicago visit. Steve seemed a bit reluctant to do so at the time, trying to steer me to a daytime tour. But he ultimately said it was available and I booked it. The day before our tour he called and was unable to do other than a day tour, which left me thinking that he NEVER intended to fill our booking. We ended up going during the day, cutting short our time at the art institute (yes, we missed the Hopper and Grant Wood art there). Much better than I expected. My friend and I took a flyer to try out Segway riding on a free afternoon, and had a truly great time. They did a great job training us, and then it was off into the city with Freddie. He's full of stories from his past as a punk rocker, about the city, and even about the Segway tour business. Outstanding customer service!! I recommend Steve's above all other Segway tours in the area. We were not just another couple of tourists. I called Steve requesting a "Haunted" tour and he put it together for us! Marcia was our guide and she ensured a personal and memorable experience. We experienced Chicago up close and personal. Marcia took us around the city visiting haunted as well as famous sites. For first timers to Chicago it was a great orientation to the city, with heaps of unique and fascinating stories and educational information, memorable photo opportunities, and excellent personal service! And what fun the Segways are!! Freddy was a fabulous guide--much better tour than we had with a different company a few years ago. This tour was a fun (and yes, clearly touristy) activity but ALSO actually had good Chicago history and architectural info. Freddy--an experienced educator & performer--approached the tour with just the right attitude for us. Plus, he's probably the only guide who hand-feeds one (and now 3) wild birds right from his hand. We had a terrific time and good training, even though my daughter was nervous at first about maneuvering the machine. Lifelong memories for our German exchange student--she was not disappointed. Steve & Freddy were great about accommodating our schedules. And they make parking really easy and economical--really a nice extra. read more

I would give this place minus starts if I could- avoild like the plague! The owner (Steve) is rude, obnoxious and thinks nothing of screaming at his customers. He canceled our tour when the other party didnt show up due to bad weather and increased the pre-decided price if we wanted to go once we got there! I cannot imagine how anyone can run a business like this- I'm sure people want to bail out based on the weather but why penalize your clients who DO show up for the tour? We had a fantastic tour. Judy is the best guide with so much information. They spent plenty of time training until you feel comfortable on the segway. The tour was 3 full hours and takes you to various places along the lake and Michigan Avenue. Judy took time for everyone to take pictures anna even took some off us. It gets hot. Bring lots of water and sunscreen. Some of the segways have bags to hold extra stuff shui you don't really need a backpack. Go early in the day if possible. We will be doing this again for sure. read more

I've never been on a Segway tour. When I called to arrange for a tour Steve answered every time. Steve has a lot of energy. But his staff especialy April made me my son and our friends feel like we were family. She always looked out for our safety and fun. In that order no exception. She was knowledge of the city. Arrived for a 1:30 Segway tour. Steve spend the better part of an hour listing to himself speak about how awesome his tours are then being rude to his staff, arrogant and obnoxious to his clients while "training" you to ride a Segway. Having taken at least 10 other Segway tours this can be done in 10 minutes, Steve made it part of his "3 hour tour" We finally departed with Freddy, who spent the next 20 minutes riding without one stop or introduction to the city. When we finally asked him when the tour starts he yelled and was belligerent, he took us to the three famous museums by the water pointed them out and the off to Soldier Field we went. Another quick trip through people packed Michigan Ave which always makes sense when you are on a Segway and we were back to Segway office for the end our our "tour". Overall not only was the overall attitude terrible so was the shoddy equipment with bald tires and dying batteries. The first warnings should have been when Steve makes you sign 3 disclaimers that no matter how bad his tour and equipment is you can not get your money back or dispute your credit card. read more

If you go on this tour, please only ask for Freddy. I personally did not have him as a tour guide, but I truly wish I did. I went with a big group (all of which were teens, and a couple of adult chaperones). When we were getting out helmets, all of the tour guides and Steve came in. They we're all joking around, and we all thought we would have such a great time on the tour. When we went outside to learn how to use the segways, one of the boys turned his on, for he was eager to get onto the Segway, and he did not know that you were supposed to let the tour guides turn it on (DO NOT TURN IT ON). Out if no where, Steve yells at the entire group to go back to the wall, and whoever turned their Segway on will now go last. This is a very harsh and rash way to act with a mistake. Instead of yelling, he should have politely REMINDED the group that the tour guides will turn it on for us. While we were on the tour, another boy fell, and he got yelled and sweared at by one of the tour guides. First of all, he was not the only one to fall, and there should absolutely be no reason to get yelled at, unless he did it on purpose or was fooling around (the boy was not doing either). Lastly, I believe I had Judy as my tour guide. The part of my segway that turns it on, fell off on a very, VERY bumpy road because it was velcroed on. She got mad at me for it falling off and made me go back to get it. When she saw it, she said that she doesn't know why it is on so loosely. She got mad very quickly for something that was not my fault. All in all, I do not recommend coming here, especially with kids or teens. read more

Freddie was great. Had an absolute ball with him. The tour was big fun and the machines are easy to use and enjoyable. Steve, on the other hand, was a real pain in the rear. Our 45 minutes of training consisted off 35 minutes of listening to Steve bloviate on how he is the best. At most it takes 5 minutes to learn to ride these things. 10 if you need a little attention. Try to take the tour on Steve's day off as the guides are delightful. read more

We did the evening tour and added a little extra time to make it 6-9. We ended up staying out till 10:20 as our tour guide, Freddie, took us on an extended tour (per his generosity). He was very knowledgeable about the city (due to his previous work experience at the museums). He was also very friendly and funny. We passed another Segway tour a number of times but their guide didn't seem to be as friendly or be able to keep the group together. I'd highly recommend the evening tour as there are fewer people about and the weather is cooler. Moreover, the view of the city at night is spectacular. A warning: riding a Segway is tiring on the feet and legs so do expect some pain from fatigue and don't go if you are presently experiencing leg/foot issues. Finally, the boss, Steve, seems to rub a lot of people the wrong way with his "direct and curt" approach but it's nothing to take personally - that's just his personality - generally speaking, he was still very helpful. read more

My husband and I really enjoyed the Architecture Tour! Freddy was our guide and he first trained us on the proper way to handle the Segway before we took off to explore Chicago. If you're looking for a segway tour that stops when you want to stop, allows you to listen to historical background about Chicago sites and not personal stories, or you want to actually be on the move rather than standing for 15+ min listening to someone droning on and on about himself, then request Judy or Freddy as your guides. Or save yourself the hassle and just book with another company. But if you enjoy men with a proclivity for temper tantrums, being berated for losing interest in listening to someone use a segway as a pedestal to talk about himself for 3 hours, and enjoy being commanded to go home if you don't stand still to listen, then Steve's your guy. His responses to other negative reviews were given in multi-paragraph form and laced with ALL CAPS, so I expect he will respond to my review in similar fashion. 3 Friends and I took the Museum Campus tour on a recent Friday Morning. We had all ridden Segways before, so the 45 minutes of 'prep' seemed to take forever. However, once we got going, things were excellent. The route though the public spaces is excellent. The guides' stories were entertaining and there were plenty of opportunities for photo-ops. We actually spent more than 3 hours on the Segways, so we definitely got our money's worth. Steve's is a great place to take a Segway tour and I would recommend it to everyone. read more

I highly recommend Steves Segway Tours. From my first call with Steve I could tell I had found the best Segway company. We had a terrific tour yesterday. Our guide was funny and knowledgeable. We covered over 7 miles on our 3 hour tour and the Segway was the perfect approach for me and my 15 year old son. We saw many other Segway tour groups during our tour and I always felt like we were seeing more and stopped at better points at each site and I kept saying to myself "I'm so glad I'm on this Segway tour and not that one!" We had a GREAT time on the Fireworks tour! When I first called to schedule, Steve told me that my daughter was to young to ride a Segway....but he had a great option available. An electric Trikke. She LOVED it. It looked fun and I may even try it next time. Steve and Gabe, our tour guide, did a great job training us on the segways so that we felt comfortable. The tour was great. Segways are an absolute blast and we really enjoyed our tour and tour guide. My poor review is geared toward the owner Steve- who was rude to his customers and also made us feel nervous and unsafe to the point I was considering walking out of this experience altogether. Steve basically gave us the safety tips and did the initial training on the Segway, as well as introduced the tour. It may have been a bad day for him, but my experience was highly unusual. Steve berated a customer for asking a question about safety locks on the Segway and it made us very uncomfortable. It escalated to the point where Steve and the customer were arguing. Very odd! While Steve has every right to protect his business, his approach around liabilities and damages was off-putting and gave me serious pause. While we enjoyed the tour itself, this initial experience would not make me want to use Steve's Segway Tours again or recommend it to others. read more

Steve's Segway Tours is a horrendous representation of Chicago and the fine people who live in this city. As a resident of Chicago, we were trying to show our first time visitors the beautiful city and thought no better way than a fun Segway tour. We made the mistake of choosing Steve's. Steve is extremely rude, crass, and disrespectful. Immediately upon arrival, Steve verbally abused my mother and then made my 11 year old sister cry. Furthermore, over the duration of our tour, Steve answered his phone over 8 times, interrupting the already lousy tour. We spent a significant amount of time and money to try and show our friends a fun time and we regret this decision. Steve did not even say thank you for our business or goodbye. There are plenty of respectable Segway tours in Chicago. I would STRONGLY recommend choosing one other than Steve's. read more

I would highly recommend enjoying a Segway ride in Chicago, however, I would not suggest using Steve's Segway. Steve the owner was rude, and for no reason insulting to me, as well as to his help. Steve, the owner, is killing his own business. Steve is rude, loud, and obnoxious. He needs to seek help from a therapist ASAP. He insults his own customer in front of women, children and older adults. He almost got into a fight with one of his customers when I took his tour during the training session. Steve, however, walked away from his customer because he was much bigger than Steve. This was our first Segway experience. Freddy was our guide, but Steve came in to help with training as there were 6 of us. After going over the disclaimer forms, training and practicing, we were off and rolling. Made several stops along the way and Freddy was very informative. I was glad we were a small group and that there weren't a lot of people to "run" into. Freddy was very accommodating with our not going fast enough, our frequent stops for pictures, questions that had nothing to do with our tour and a bathroom break. He even helped give out directions to tourists and gave us dinner recommendations. Well spent afternoon and would definitely do it again! read more
