Actual tour and pilot were awesome, check-in process was definitely odd. We walked in and gave our name and the lady seemed surprised that we had a booking for that time as she wasn't expecting anyone. Then had to ask us what time we booked and how we booked it and took 5 minutes for her to find our reservation. Huh? I'm about to ride a fricken helicopter with your company, and paid a pretty penny (150 per person for 15 minutes), it definitely wasn't the best impression when you want to feel comfortable and that they are reliable! We also had to watch the most worthless safety video ever, right after the other front desk guy already very slowly told us what the safety instructions were. So we heard the same thing twice. Slightly brutal but whatever, not a big deal. The pilot was a great guy, made us feel really comfortable as it was both of ours first time in a copter. The tour was quick, but I don't think I could have been stuck in there any longer, it was definitely nerve racking. Amazing experience I absolutely recommend doing a helicopter tour and I do think Rotorzen overall is a great company to go with.

    Completely satisfied!!

There are at least a couple of helicopter tours that service Chicago. I researched in depth to find the best one for our needs. This was a surprise booking for my husbands birthday. I called a few times with questions and always received appropriate answers. I booked this reservation directly through the website. The reason this experience was amazing... First we were immediately greeted upon arrival to the vertiport. Our pilot...Ryan B., and the two young men introduced themselves to us. We then got the pre flight briefing. We were advised on what to expect before, during, and after. We took an evening tour. The lights of the city were more than magical. The whole flight was so smooth, from lift off until touch down. Ryan was so knowledge about the city and pointed everything out to us. We flew right next to the Sears Tower! I would recommend this company and experience to anyone interested in a helicopter tour. It was a private tour...just my husband and I, with Ryan as our guide!! Thank you so much for a wonderful experience guys!! You were awesome!! Ryan...your flying skills are perfection!!!

I bought a Groupon a few years back for my boyfriend for this and it was the best gift I could have given him - and to myself! The experience was amazing. I recommend it to everyone when ever they ask me about it. The views, the customer service, everything was amazing. I would do this again in the future. I wish I had a better camera because the photos I have do no justice. We went on the night tour and it was just us two and the pilot. Loved it!!

Just went for a ride over the weekend with 3 others for my boyfriend's birthday... and it was a great experience!! All of us were amazed by the views and we had a pilot who had a great sense of humor. I would definitely recommend this company to others in the future and we want to do it again!

Chicago Walking Tour - Elevated Architecture Downtown 'L' Train…read moreWe have previously taken the CAC boat tour and one of the surface walking tours (both of which were great), but this time we wanted something with a slightly different perspective while staying downtown. We chose the Elevated Architecture Downtown 'L' Train tour led by Andrew, our CAC docent. As no one else had signed up for the tour that morning, it became a private tour. Andrew was not only very knowledgeable about the architecture and friendly, but also, given that he works in planning at the Chicago Metro, was able to take us on an even deeper dive concerning the "L", its history, and some of the current challenges. As we were about 35' about street level for the tour, we were also treated to a different perspective of the building and their design/decoration, something that cannot be readily observed from street level. Thans again to Andrew for an information and entertaining tour above the streets of downtown Chicago-truly a unique experience.

Essentially I personally base it on the likelihood of a return visit and I try to be stingy with 5 star reviews since they should be "special" in my eyes. Price/Value also play a role obviously but there are $ and $$$$ littered across my grading scale. 5 stars - "I'll go out of my way" (approx 6 % of my reviews) 4 stars- "If I was in the area I'd go here and would recommend", (approx 38% of my reviews) 3 stars "Maybe if was nearby", (approx 37% of my reviews) 2 stars -"Would likely not return, Only if you want to go", (approx 16% of my reviews) 1 star -"No thanks, even if I was hungry", (approx. 3 % of my reviews)

My wife did this tour a couple years ago and highly recommended it, but I wasn't especially interested because I had also gone to school here and figured I knew enough about Hyde Park already. However, she insisted that it would be worth our while and so I agreed to climb on the bus. And it was the absolutely right decision, because the tour was excellent. In fact, it wasn't just a tour of Hyde Park. It included the surrounding neighborhoods of Washington Park, Kenwood, Jackson Park, and Woodlawn. Since this was a UChicago sponsored event much of the information related to the University's investment and involvement in the area. Our tour guide and founder of Chicago Detours, Amanda, is herself a graduate of UChicago and thus she had some additional insight into the relationship with the community. Though the 75-minute tour felt a little slow-going at times, there was much to learn about the vibrant but sometimes troubled history of the area. Amanda has tremendous knowledge and the excursion was both fascinating and entertaining. I can imagine that Chicago Detours would have equally interesting tours of other neighborhoods in this diverse city.

This exhibit has a cool model of the city and interactive screen that you can highlight different buildings. It's really amazing. However, there's multiple computers and if there's a crowd, as soon as you highlight the building you want someone else highlights the building they want and becomes really hard to really take it all in. There's a small series of panels on Transit orientated development which I really enjoyed. I'm not sure if those are always there or just currently there. They seemed rather new. There was also a piece on regular field with a model of the stadium and some interactive stuff to play with with a scoreboard. Overall the first floor was pretty good. Second floor is where I disappointment kind of hit. I guess they were in the middle of changing exhibits so there was only a small section to see and that exhibit didn't really resonate with me and didn't flow very well. It's worth checking out, especially if you have some sort of discount tickets like I did.
