Specifically, the lawyer representing me as a seller of real estate failed to keep me apprised of incoming communications from the buyer's attorney; they failed to inform me of changes to the existing contract; and failed to discuss options available resulting from the changes to the contract. In short, the sales contract had four terms and none were enforced by my lawyer and it cost 10% of the net proceeds from the sale, extended the time frame for the sale by a month, and caused a great deal of unnecessary stress. As it turned out, the outcome of the case was already pretty much pre-determined by the NYS statutes. If I had known that, it would have been clear that I didn't need a lawyer at all. I provided her with lots of personal information I thought would help my case, and she ignored it (because she knew it wouldn't matter--though she didn't tell me that). Very uncommunicative. She assumed I knew how the legal process worked when I didn't. Very disappointing.
