If you are an older woman, do not bother with this law firm. Attorney Stevens treated me like a pile of sewage & had an absolute fit his assistant brought me a bottled water. He angrily chastised assistant & said it was "too expensive" to give to me. I had been in his office for less than two minutes. I had sent more documents of written proof than most attorneys could dream of, but seeing me in person changed my case prospect, even though my job had nothing to do with youth or any looks requirement. He did a 360 flip-flop in his seat when I asked what changed with my in-person visit & he would not answer. Attorney is a disgusting misogynist. read more

I called this law firm for assistance with a wage claim. I live in Oregon but worked for a restaurant in California last November. The restaurant never paid me or had me fill out a W4, even when I went in to do so after I quit. Obviously I file a wage claim with the department of labor, but since there are lawyers who specialize in employment I figured it couldn't hurt to talk to a professional. After all I may be faced with the expense of traveling to Ca for mediation or court... I called Stevens and McMillan and was transferred to their paralegal. I told her I had questions about a wage claim that I will be filing. Her immediate response was "Well an attorney can cost thousands and thousands of dollars, so you should just go through the department of labor". I told her I planned on doing that, then explained a bit of the story: how I had never been paid etc. She emphasized again that I file a claim with the department of labor. Again I said yes I plan on doing that but should I have some sort of legal representation. Her final response was "It's probably going to take a really long time, but it will take a long time with an attorney too." So basically you don't want my business, I get that. But don't assume I don't have "thousands and thousands of dollars" based off of the fact that I'm filing a wage claim. Nobody in America thinks lawyers are cheap. Nobody wants to call a lawyer. Yet somehow they're all still in business. Maybe this firm can help you if you have a claim where they can make more money than average, such as sexual harassment case. But if you're in a situation where an employer has not paid you, I would not recommend calling this firm. They don't even want to talk to you about it. read more

I called this office to see if me and my coworkers could set up a free consultation to see what our options are with a former employer. Our issues with our former employer have to do with wage and hours, inadequate break times, federal taxes not being with held from our checks, a letter from a New Jersey lawyer saying we took a piece of paper that was a legal document. All we wanted was a consult to see what options we have so that this employer doesn't get away with this. The lady I spoke with would not help, she refused to give us a consult.
