THESE ATTORNEYS ARE UNETHICAL!…read more About a year ago, I loaned a friend $4K to pay this law firm to retain their services after he was arrested on a drug charge. I had to use my debit card to pay the lawyer and was not given any information from the lawyer about what I was actually paying for. My "friend" never paid me back and skipped bail and is now wanted and on the run in another state. In the time since I paid his lawyer he stole from me and caused a lot of other problems for me and I don't want to have any connection to him anymore. I contacted the lawyer and stated the issue clearly and asked if it would be possible to refund the amount I paid. I asked him if he could charge his client (my former "friend") for the retainer, rather than use my funds. The lawyer denied my request, stating that I had paid to retain his services for his client and couldn't request a refund until the case was complete. However, despite claiming that I had paid to retain his services, I was given no paperwork to show what I had paid and I doubt I even have any legal claim to those funds if the case is ever "completed". Is it ethical for a lawyer to keep third party funds as a retainer when I have no desire to fund their clients legal defense in any way? I feel it is completely unethical to make someone pay for the defense of their client who stole from me. What I'm worried about is that if the client dismisses the lawyer that the funds I provided will just be returned to them and not me. I am very low income and this represented a majority of my savings. I am hoping that this law firm will do the right thing and return the money I paid and let their client pay for his own defense!

Instead of advocating for us, she was rude takes things personal and pressured us to accept a poor plea deal that was not in our best interest, seemingly because she didn't want to put in the work required for a real negotiation. She seemed to be working for the prosecution and not the defense to hand them a win. When we pushed back and asked for actual representation she took it personally and lacked professionalism by withdrawing from the case entirely. If you want an attorney who will actually fight for you and treat you with basic respect, look elsewhere."

READ BEFORE HIRING I…read moredo not usually go out of my way to defame a company for poor service but I have to act when it arises to this level. If I could give 0 stars, I would. In 2018 Mayer Law firm represented me in a divorce action against my current wife. Subsequently we reconciled but after a year or so refiled. My STBX is beyond narcaccistic and manipulative woman. She persuaded my first wife with whom I share 50/50 placement and custody over our son to file for primary placement and custody in hopes of opening two fronts with which to beat me into submission. Mayer law firm was privy to confidential information and clearly should not be representing my first wife in ANY legal action involving information they were privy to. They failed to perform BASIC and STANDARD practices of performing a conflict of interests check when being retained by my first wife. After presenting them with a letter stating the facts and information, I was asked in their office, well.... You won't waive conflict of interest? To which I politely stated "No I will not" After speaking on the phone, again asking if they intended to remain my ex wife's legal consul, they stated yes. For those thinking of using Mayer Law firm I would ask these questions: 1) If the basic functions of ensuring a potential case does not present clear conflict of interest and breach of confidentiality cannot be performed, how well will your case be handled? 2) After the fact, when "finding" out, willing to ethically violate and continue the case, knowing full well you are in violation of ethical and legal clauses meant to protect clients, continuing because I do not have an attorney to force the issue. ( I have consulted with 5 separate legal malpractice attorneys and EACH and every one has said the moment there are damages with which I can pursue they will take my case, one going as far as to say "If they stay on the case they do not have a brain between their ears" ) 3) If they are willing to ethically violate something to this degree, are they really in your best interest? 4) I have submitted an ethics complaint and have been told I have a very viable ethics violation. Do you want a law firm who violates their own ethics oaths? You are about to spend thousands if not tens of thousands of dollars. Ensure you hire someone that does not violate basic tenants of their profession.
