Nashville, Indiana is a great little village for a weekend getaway (or weekday jaunt). My wife…read morecalls it her "Happy Place". Women especially like Nashville because of its myriad of shops that appeal more to them more so than men. Men like it because it has good restaurants, some shops that we find interesting and we enjoy being with our spouse when they are especially happy. And there is the nature trail you can walk. Plus there are two entertainment venues offering music, comedy and theatrical productions. So... what's not to like?! And, unless you live very close, your visit needs to be long enough that an overnight stay is in order. My wife and I typically stay three nights each time we come to Nashville. With all that being said: I highly recommend that you stay at the Artists Colony Inn... for several reasons: 1) It's right in the middle of town. Once you get there you can park your car and may never need it again until you leave town. 2) It's a very nice place. I wouldn't call it luxurious but then that characteristic would fly in the face of the hotel's theme: Brown County's artisan history. 3) While it costs more than say, an interstate Days Inn, et. al, I believe it is a good value. and 4) the folks there make you feel at home. My wife and I travel frequently (probably spend a hundred nights a year in hotels) and no where else have we encountered folks as friendly as those at Artists Colony Inn. Yes, we stay there often but we have favorite places to stay in other cities as well. But no where else am I greeted by the desk clerk with, "Hi, Mike" when I walk through the door! My wife and I know all (or nearly all) of their staff's first names - including their chef, baker and maintenance guy - they are all that friendly.

Think of it as a Cracker Barrel, but with local charm and none of the chain restaurant vibes. Service: Service is always with a smile, and we've never felt ignored here. Ambiance: This is, I think, their best asset. You can't beat the location, and the massive fireplace in the main dining area makes you feel like you've stepped back in time.

One word: hilarious!…read more This is your typical bowling alley. Renovated not long ago so everything looks nice and new! Staff were really friendly. Shoe sizes run large. It was busy on a Saturday evening with a lot of groups with children. Pool and air hockey games available. Typical bowling alley food with a bar option. High tech screens for bowling and boy were they funny! You can take different pictures of yourself as a player and it displays on the screen. They do all sorts of silly cartoons with your face every time someone takes a turn. It was so funny and had our group laughing nonstop! We had a lot of fun there. Definitely recommend for groups and especially children!

It's the only one I'm aware of and for a city of this size, I would think there would be more than one. A Yelp search returns this location as the only bowling alley in Bloomington. It does not list the one on the IU campus probably because it is for students and not the public. The location was not so easy to find even with GPS. I missed the first turn because it didn't look like a street but more like a driveway. Eventually arriving close to my destination, I found the building is located behind a row of buildings on a main road and then set back out of sight on a side street to accommodate a large parking lot. Upon arrival I saw half of the overheard lights turned off making it rather dark inside. The counter person gave me an open lane sandwiched between two sets of young children. Out of 32 lanes, everyone was crammed into the last eight lanes all bunched up together. The other 24 lanes were empty on a day when no leagues were due to bowl per their website. Could I not get a lane without having to share the ball return with people that don't know proper bowling etiquette? It is customary to wait for the person next to you to take their turn so they have no distractions. This was not the case with both sets of people on either side of me, including the adults and the children. Then someone turned on the music on these large speakers mounted every ten feet or so. It was so loud people had to shout to be heard. I happen to be on a phone call and had to step outside the building to talk. I could not hear them and vice versa. If it was later in the evening I could understand but it in the middle of the afternoon. I wasn't there to party, I was trying to practice my bowling skills which takes concentration. I found it too difficult to concentrate with their blaring offensive music. Then there was the snack bar. It was closed! There were no alternatives. No vending machines providing liquid refreshments and a big sign on the door that said no outside food or drink is allowed. Is bowling a sport? Hydration during sporting events is not allowed here? I bowled four frames and left; never to return. I donated my remaining games to the children next to me.

Over Xmas we gave them as gifts on Xmas Eve for Christmas Tables and today I am so pleased with the Centerpiece for Easter tomorrow. I hired Linda from Harvest Moon Flower Farm after receiving a recommendation from a friend that…read morelives in Bloomington, IN. Linda did an amazing job with the flowers for my wedding down in Bloomington! I had her special order Picasso Calla Lilies and arrange all of the boutonnières for family members. She also put together three lovely terrariums for the tables at the wedding, as well as some greenery for our wedding cake. The arrangements were gorgeous and so was her farm. Just two things to consider: she does not deliver, so it made it a little more difficult to get the arrangements before the wedding. While she is only 20 minutes outside of Bloomington, it wasn't on the way to our venue. I knew my parents would love to see the farm, so that made it worthwhile for me. The other thing is that she has two (adorable) dogs that will greet you when you arrive. I LOVE dogs, but don't care for them to jump on me with muddy paws. . . ;) When we went to pick up the wedding flowers, the dogs jumped onto the side of my newly-washed vehicle and left mud marks & scratches on my car. I had my car washed again and the marks from the dogs are still there. Not the end of the world, but not fabulous either. If I were throwing an event in Bloomington, I would definitely hire her again!
