STAY AWAY!!! I pay my bills on time, every time. Was shocked to return home to find no bill, but a collection notice. My appointment was on 09/20. Portal showed zero balance. Office switched portals. Office says they mailed a single statement out in October. 12/11 received a collections notice. Curiously, there's a notice from the collection agency but nothing from Sterling Behavioral. Contacted the billing office to see what is going on and to resubmit the claim to insurance as requested by the insurance company or pay the bill and file myself for reimbursement. Tera at Sterling Behavioral replied... "Unfortunately, with no communication from you, after 120 days bills get sent to collections. Once that is done, we can not accept payments and it needs to go through the collection agency." 09/20 to 12/11 is NOT 120 days!!! read more

I hate this place!!! I continue to go through these people because it is so hard to get new psychiatric care in this area. It's impossible some days, almost impossible others to physically talk to someone in the office. It's now 9/19/22 and they still hide under the guise of Covid why they still do not see patients in office when the entire country and every other doctors office has been open for over a year. If you actually need to be treated do not go here. I can't stress enough how terribly ran this organization is. I hope anyone who needs treatment can save their lives by going elsewhere. read more

I am leaving a 1 star review for this place not because the doctors are not worthy of more stars, but because the administration staff here is horrible. I was left in the lobby for ~45 minutes after my appointment was scheduled. I sat there waiting, watching my doctor take in other patients. Finally, I went BACK to the front desk to ask them what was happening. They marked me as a no show, even though I was there, checked in, did everything I was supposed to do. For whatever reason, they told the Dr. I was a now show, and charged me for missing an appointment. After I asked the front desk when the Dr. would see me, they figured out what they did. I met with the Dr. and he was just as upset as I was. And if you are wondering why I would not approach the front desk before !45 minutes after my appointment: 1. I had already checked in 2. the front desk is not pleasant, at all They refunded the "missed appointment fee, but the damage was already done. Now...during Covid, they do not have office hours. The problem with that is you have to try to get thru to the front desk to make payment. Reaching the front desk, administration at this place is a part time job, Good luck. Well, unbeknown to me, they implemented a policy that if you do not pay on the day of your virtual visit, they charge you $25.00. The problem with that is they never informed their patients. Long story shortened: they charged me $50 for two visits where I did not pay the fee on the day of the visit. Try getting someone on the phone here. They never informed me of this policy...so I am being charged late fees for something I most certainly would have already paid for. I'm finished doing business with this place. I'm glad we dodged a bullet by going elsewhere since this lack of basic communication and customer service is a harbinger of what we'd be in for if we had went with them. I originally thought my appointment was on Monday, but come to find out it was on Wednesday. I am constantly doing that. So Wednesday afternoon rolls around and the office contacts me to let me know that Dr. Ansari is out sick and they need to reschedule my appointment for Thursday. Which was not a problem. I arrive at my appointment 10 mins. early(appointment scheduled for 3:45pm) wasn't seen until 4:00pm. We walked down a very long hallway full of offices and I look up thinking that he was in front of me and he wasn't. He walked so fast I actually lost him. The first thing out of his mouth was "oh I am sorry I need to remember I walk faster than others". No apologies for being out sick yesterday or 15 mins. late. This office has a late policy/no show policy which is a $100 charge. He proceeds to read over my medical history which laid out MY WHOLE LIFE and then starts asking me random questions. Dr. Ansari didn't listen to a word I said or wrote and started diagnosing me with a mental illiness. I have seen many of shrinks and have never heard this dig noses before. I told him I didn't think that was the case and he starts laying out words to back up his diagnoses that I didn't even say. I literally said I NEVER said that. Putting words in my mouth. All and all he was not hearing me! What everyone is saying about Heather are pretty spot on. I left multiple messages and she never returned my call. I actually ended up emailing her and she finally answered. The front desk receptionist were meh. Not really friendly. Spoke about other people in their office and not in a kind way. All in all I wouldn't recommend this office or Dr. Ansari unless you'd like someone to NOT listen to you. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. The doctors are great but the front desk staff and manager really seem like they don't like doing their job. It takes multiple emails to answer one question and it's like a back and forth just to get the answer you're looking for. Nobody ever answers the phones no matter what time of day you call. They ask you to leave payment info over a voicemail which isn't settling in the slightest but what choice do you have when a bill is affecting your credit and NOBODY ANSWERS EVER?! They are rude if you ever do get the chance to talk to one of them over the phone as well. I am not sure what the other reviews of the office staff are talking about. So far i have had a great experience. The front staff is attentive, welcoming and very helpful every time i have gone in there. My appointments were made in a timely manner and i didn't have to wait 3 months or so for my first appointment like other places. We did have a hiccup with insurance and billing but that was quickly resolved by the office staff. My therapist is also great and working well with me so far. Unbelievable customer service. I called to dispute charges since they had scheduled an appointment for me when I had only called to see my benefits. But apparently that meant automatic appointment. I spoke with heather after calling several times and leaving several voicemails. The amount of attitude and disrespect I was given and then when I simply said "ma'am please don't give me so much attitude when I'm only calling about a charge I should not have charged" she proceeded to say "I'm not giving you any attitude you're acting like a bitch". Sorry I called disputing a bill??? Did I mention I'm not even a patient? I have never gone to this office so this "charge" is totally invalid. Not to mention I didn't sign any sort of documents about their policy nor was I informed of such a policy. Oh also- if you want to get shady paperwork done for immigration status- you should definitely visit this practice. If I could rate a negative I would. Billing office is a nightmare. They wrongly charge you without checking insurance first. Then can't accept their mistake to correct. They make you jump through hoops to correct their mistake. They incorrectly charged our FSA card. Then when finally got them to credit it, they put on the wrong card and not the card that charge was put on. That account is inactive and yet they are saying they need to get proof that was returned before crediting my correct FSA account even though it was rejected and today is the last day to get credits for FSA purposes. They could simply do the right thing and aren't. Please look elsewhere. I'm not putting this rating on the doctors, but on the staff that handles billing, communication, etc. And on top of this you can't get to someone on the phone. read more

The front desk workers at this location are the most unprofessional and incompetent people I have ever come across. I'm writing this review after 3 scheduling errors, I'm at the end of my rope. For a mental health practice, the lack of empathy is shocking, and the are absolutely unrepentant and have no accountability to their mistakes. I'm on medication that I need to see a doctor for. And now I will run out because they mistakenly booked my appointment for the following week. And they could care less. No apology, nothing. They are so unbelievably rude and unfriendly. I certainly hope the providers at this office have enough existing patients. Their new patient coordinator is, at best, utterly incompetent. I have reached out to her a number of times, via phone and email, attempting to confirm insurance information and determine the best provider to see. Literally, I am trying to give you money, all you have to do is take the time to speak with me. After leaving two voicemails with no response for two weeks, I finally get a call from the coordinator. I was at work, in a meeting, and could not answer the phone. She leaves a message, explaining she had been sick and she was just getting through her voicemails. She asked me to call her before the end of the day. I attempt to call her 4 times that day, all of them go straight to voicemail. I leave another voicemail, asking her to call me back the next day, giving her over 5 hours to choose from when I would be free. No call. I wait a few more days, no call. I decide to go the email route - "I am interested in scheduling an appointment, but wanted to make sure that my insurance is accepted by the provider and that I'm talking to the right one. If there is a chance we could schedule a time for a call, when both of us would be available, so I can have this discussion with you, I would greatly appreciate it. If that is not possible, I will attempt to answer my phone the next time you call. I am available before 10:30am any day this week, and between 12pm and 2pm thru Thursday." I get a prompt response via email - "I will call you in the morning before 10:30am. If you would like to ask me questions via email I would be happy to answer what I can. Thank you!" One week later, no phone call at all. It has now been over 5 weeks, trying to schedule an appointment with one of the providers. Once again, I am trying to give you money, all you have to do is not be utterly useless. That, plus the reviews I see here about billing issues, tells me these doctors need to find a new staff. At least, they need to know they lost revenue because their new patient coordinator couldn't get it together enough to coordinate with a new patient. read more

I don't know why everyone is giving the receptionists a bad review. Tiffany and Diane are amazing. It's everyone else who is bad, except for some of the therapists. I take my kids here. And I take myself here and my husband. We laugh and feel so great when we walk in. Tiffany is a smart as* but really cares. She has let me vent so often and went beyond what was expected from her. Diane helps in any way she can. She is another person who cares. Unlike my the doctor who I have to chase down the hall. If either one of these girls leave, I won't come back. read more

Took a child for a visit- to evaluate and or adjust prescription, 15 minute visit. Dr.King called my husband and threatened him over the phone for not bringing his son in at least twice a week. I have been seeing Dr Chitlu for 6 years and have referred many people to her. She is very caring and professional. She holds 30 minute appointments and does more than just medication management. I opted to take both of my children to see her as well. She is very good with both of them. The office staff can appear aloof when you first meet them but are very responsive and warm. I had an extremely bad experience here, and I didn't even get to see the doctor! Long story short, I was being charged an exorbitant amount for a psychiatrist appointment (more than I've ever paid), the office lady copped an attitude, turns out they were trying to leech money from me, and the doctor dropped me at the moment of the rescheduled appointment. This was back during the beginning of 2020. I'd had to cancel my first appointment due to school conflict, and so I'd scheduled another appointment. For the next one, I showed up on time and was filling out a few forms while they processed my insurance. (Yes, I should have probably showed up a little earlier but it still doesn't justify the BS that happened). Next thing you know, I'm being charged a $475 deductible for the 45 min appointment. I knew off the bat that wasn't right, cause my family's insurance only makes me pay $45 copay for specialists (it's an expat insurance that covers a lot, which will become important later). The lady at the front desk was pretty nice about it, though, but said that I'd have to wait for the intake lady to come in if I wanted to dispute anything about the high deductible. The front desk lady had tried to help, but was unsure of the situation herself. told her that I didn't want to sit through the appointment quite yet if that much money was in the air, cause if I sat in on the appointment I knew that they would try to pin the charges on me no matter what. So I waited, thinking that it'd be just another 10 minutes. About 20 minutes goes by and I finally go up to the desk to see what was up. The front desk lady then goes to grab the intake lady, as if she hadn't even told her that I'd been waiting. The intake lady comes out and starts copping this condescending attitude when I start explaining the situation. After a ton of back and forth, it turned out that they were trying to charge me with the international coverage that my insurance offered (so basically, the coverage I'd have if I was injured or sick in a foreign country). Last time I checked, Virginia was, and still is, not a foreign entity, so I don't even know where they pulled the international BS from. At that point, the appointment had gone by, at which the intake lady had this whole attitude about how I "insisted on not going through with the appointment because of the billing", which wasn't the case, and she made it sound like I'd been throwing a tantrum. Even though I was annoyed at that point, I agreed to schedule another appointment. It was for a few days (maybe a week) later. I showed up to the appointment early, and I was literally about to get out of my car when I get a call from the office. When I picked up, the lady told me that Dr. Ansari would not be seeing me and asked me to reschedule with another doctor. I asked why and when I could reschedule, and she couldn't give me a straight answer. It was something along the lines of how he just wasn't available anymore. Basically, he just didn't want to see me anymore and dropped me on the day of the appointment. I didn't get any other explanation. This practice is an absolute joke. I don't know if they care more about money than the patients, or if they really are that inept. Either way, don't even bother. I don't normally write Yelp reviews, but even seeing their name pisses me off to this day. There's very good practices in the area that actually care about people with mental illnesses, but this is not one of them. read more

Both of my teenage children have been seen by Dr. Pittman and Dr. Chitlu and I am so thankful for them both. My kids feel very comfortable speaking with each of these doctors and they continue to see them as needed. Most reviews here have issue with the admin staff and ease of making appointments. I can't say I've had the same experience. I've contacted Heather through email and received a prompt response each time. The doctor's schedules do fill quickly, so you need to act fast. I would highly recommend scheduling your next appointment before you leave the office. I am so thankful that I was able to find a mental health practice that would actually take insurance and I'm guessing that's why they are so overwhelmingly busy. Waited for 3 months to get an Appointment, Filled out tons of paperwork. Finally received a call to make an Appointment for my kids and the very rude receptionist decided she didn't like me. Put me on hold for 20 minutes because I asked if it was possible to schedule an Appointment a little sooner then what she was offering. When she came back on the phone stated that I would need to go somewhere else because she was denying me service. If this receptionist represents the doctor's at this facility it's a very poor business practice especially for a Mental Health facility. Terrible customer service. While the doctor we met was very friendly, professional and supportive it's impossible to do business with them. My wife's phone calls are never returned. We're not able to get paperwork that we need. In order to make the next appointment I actually drove all the way down to the office (since they don't bother to return phone calls) only to find what they didn't have what they said they would have. Front desk has no interest in escalating the issue or resolving your problems. My wife & I were very professional and made several attempts to follow - up. I have had good experiences with the doctors here. I've been seeing Dr. Ansari for a good while now, and he is personable and professional. However, the office staff is atrocious, especially the finance side of it. They rarely answer phone calls. If it's a question about a bill, good luck getting an answer unless you owe them and are calling to pay. They know they're one of the few practices that take insurance and they treat patients like garbage because there are few alternatives. For example, I missed a virtual appointment because their app was not working correctly. I called them about it and they accused me of not knowing how to use it. I had already had successful virtual appointments before this! Then they charged my card for the $100 missed appointment fee without my authorization! I called them about it and left messages, but even over a month later, no return calls...big surprise. If you can avoid this practice, do it! Those of us who can't pay out of pocket and rely on insurance will have to continue to suffer. read more

The psychiatrist I saw didn't demonstrate any interest in actually helping me or putting any thought and effort into treating the root of my problem, instead he opted to take the easy, five minute route consisting of excessive, unwanted small talk and writing scripts for refills. So basically just wanted to maintain the status quo, check me off as having been seen and bill for $350 of a bunch of BS. My child had been going here for over two years and when she was having suicidal ideologies we called to speak to her psychiatrist to get a referral on an in-patient facility of where to bring her / they REFUSED to allow us to speak with the psychiatrist and just kept repeating call 911. I left a message for the doctor to call me - Dr. Chitlu and NEVER heard back! My child was willing to go on a voluntary basis - there was no reason to call 911. They also ha e yet to get back to us on the assessment they did o er two months ago with any results. Run as fast as you can sway from this place! read more

I saw Dr. Chitlu here for a long chunk of time and she ended up prescribing me medication for a condition that I had not been diagnosed with. She also failed to thoroughly warn me about and help me evaluate the potential for the drug's side affects (do NOT take the drug VRAYLAR or any of this drug type unless you truly feel you're willing to pay the price and all other options have been exhausted!). She was way too eager to prescribe drugs, and this lead to what could be a lifelong side effect condition. The doctors have no way of knowing. So far, I've been suffering the consequences of trusting her for over two years. The dystonia/dyskinesia is extremely painful, traumatizing, and even embarrassing. She basically jumped to conclusions based off one mild anecdotal concern that I reported, and now I'm the one paying the price because she doesn't understand the responsibility she has to her patients. You deserve better. It shouldn't be this hard to find good care. read more

First of all, I really like my provider, Dr. Ansari, and I would give him 5 stars plus. If not for him, I wouldn't keep going there. However, the office staff is not friendly They're disorganized and very unaccomodating. I showed up for my last appointment only to find out that my doctor was out sick and that my appointment had never been scheduled. Now I had one scheduled for tomorrow, and received a call yesterday saying that my appointment would have to be rescheduled. The only appointment they could provide me with is causing me to have to rearrange my entire schedule for the day. If I had been the one who needed to reschedule, I wouldn't be angry. The office should be more accommodating and respectful of people's time and try to talk to the doctor and squeeze in the people whose appointments were cancelled at time that's convenient for the patient. Doctor's offices should employ staff that's courteous and helpful just like any business. Medical practices are businesses too and customers/patients shouldn't have to deal with these things. read more

My experiences at SBHS have always been pleasant the staff is helpful and have always addressed my concerns or questions in a timely fashion. I have been a patient for over five years and am pleased with the services provided. In the past I have had issues with my insurance not covering my medications but the staff has helped to resolve the issues quickly. Overall I would recommend SBHS. read more

Sigh. This place kinda sucks. Cancellation fees are $100 if not done 24 hours prior, but people have emergencies and apparently that doesn't mean anything to the office. My complaint isn't as much about my psychiatrist even though there is one thing that confuses me about him. The front staff suck. Always rude, not kind and happy as one would expect to see in a psych office of all places. Mentally ill people are coming here to seek treatment, the last thing they need is people being cold and dry to them. I had booked an appointment for 9:30am with my doctor. I get there at 9:30, dude who comes in at the same time as me is apparently late for his 9am appointment with the same doctor as me. He goes in before I do, and I end up waiting for 30 minutes to see my doctor. By the time my doctor comes out, he calls out a name that I assume is mine since I had been there since 9:30. We get in there and he calls me "Tyler". Who tf is Tyler??? I was like no I'm Farah, and he said they didn't put me on the schedule. I told him I had been there since 9:30am and already paid my $40 copay fee for the appointment. and he says "oh well it's 10am". Yeah...I've been waiting for 30mins, that's why it's 10am now. It's not his fault, it was the front desks fault. Anyway, I tell him I need something for my ADD, he tells me that if we fix my depression and anxiety first that my ADD will go away....lol what.....I've had ADD before I've had anxiety and depression. Like I'm literally failing my classes, I'm not gonna wait months for the anxiety and depression medications to kick in so we can see if my ADD is magically fixed after that. I have gone here for over 2 years and at first I loved it. I spoke to Dr. Staadeker, a psychologist who was very helpful. I no longer speak to her simply because I feel I don't need to, but I see her in the office frequently and she always waves and says hello. Very friendly. However, the front desk receptionists are not very friendly or easy to talk to you (you would think they would be especially since this is a behavioral doctor's office) Now it seems that every time I go one receptionist in particular always seems to have an attitude. I now see Dr. Mohammed, and although he is a nice man, he doesn't seem to have his patients figured out. ex. Pronounces my name wrong, will have the wrong patient folder during my appointment with him. One last thing, every time I run out of a prescription it is almost impossible for me to get it refilled. A very frustrating task, especially when the medication you need has run out and you are simply left to feel the side effects. Looking to find a new office if things continue this way. read more

Well I did return to my previous Dr. Instead of returning to SBH and I can say with 100% certainty I feel so much better. I was put back on the meds I was previously on and got to dump the Zombie inducing meds SBH had me taking and I couldn't be happier. I am so grateful there are still Drs that LISTEN and CARE about the real needs of Patients. Those Drs are NOT at SBH so do yourself a favor and find somewhere else. The attraction of SBH for most people is that they take Insurance where most places don't but don't go there, you will not get the help you need! read more

This place is horrible in my opinion. They force you to get appointments by holding your prescriptions hostage, so they get you in and charge you the co-pay and for the appointment, only to just give you 3 mos worth of prescriptions AFTER you pay. And it is so hard to get appointments and refills, and very hard to get your records. I think they treat their patients like cattle, and it is extremely impersonable and mismanaged. I would stay away from this practice and go elsewhere. read more

Rude, rude, rude!! The doctor I saw was great, very sweet and professional. However, his Medical Assistant, is AWFUL. She is rude, takes forever to respond or just doesn't respond at all, and has no problems sending nasty emails to patients. Also, there is a $100 "no show fee" regardless of your situation...as in, even if you reschedule 24 hours ahead of time they will still bill you. The staff and ridiculous "policies" is why I left this practice. How sad. :( read more

The reviews are right. Horrible office staff and management especially. I initially spoke with a therapist (really a social worker) and she basically shook the whole time. Why is my therapist nervous to talk to me? Then she talked to me for over an hour and acted like I took up so much of her time because I went over the scheduled time. You're in control, lady, I was just answering your 1000 questions. The rescheduling fee was the last straw for me. Their policy is that you have to call to reschedule before 11am the day before....not the usually within 24 hours of most professional places. The fee to do so after 11am is OUTRAGEOUS at $100 and it is incredibly difficult to even get an appointment with the doctor you need. Last visit, I waited for over an hour because the receptionist forgot to check me in and apparently my doctor never knew I was in the waiting room. I even asked the receptionist if the doctor knew I was there and she dismissively told me that he did and he was running late (a lie, my doctor later informed me) and promptly went back to gossiping with the other receptionist. Poor response time for a mental health facility, too, and after four months, I am honestly questioning the knowledge of my doctor who continuously upped my meds and then went on to add one, then two, then THREE more meds on top of that one, all of which made my life worse, made me unable to sleep, made my hair fall out. None of this seemed to concern him since I can't even talk to him about this. I can't get an appointment at a convenient time and they won't let me email him or talk with him directly. Therapist that sees my son sees is great. Office staff are terrible. It's been hard to get anyone to answer the phone. I tried to cancel an appointment a week out, and I left a voicemail message asking for a call back to confirm that they received it, and I didn't hear back. Called again a couple of days before the appointment confirming I needed to cancel and asked for a call back. I still got the reminder text the day before the appointment. I finally had to email the therapist to let her know that I've made reasonable effort to cancel well in advance, but that I never heard back. Also, they billed the first session to my insurance correctly, but then on the following three visits they billed with incorrect diagnosis code/procedural code combination, so the claims were denied by my insurance. I called and left several messages and emailed over 2-3 months to the billing POC on my statements and never heard back. I finally had to call my insurance and have them call the provider about the provider's error. If finally got fixed, but I really dread if I have to call the office for appointments or any billing reason, because I can only assume that they don't care or are poorly organized.
