As far as I can ascertain both parents and local council applaud its achievements. The only disharmony I have seen occurs when some children are unhappy to leave the place at the end of the day, a recommendation to other mothers.

Our child was at this nursery for a little over a year when the nursery manager and her husband emailed several of us parents who hosted facebook group for parents. The manager was so paranoid that we were using the group to 'talk about her behind her back,' that they demanded we take the group down by a specific date or we'd be expelled from the nursery and face legal charges (not sure how they'd make those stick, but okay). We and several other parents were so horrified by this that we moved our children.

The Castle Creche is a small building situated outside the Gyle Shopping Centre. It is an ideal…read moreplace to leave your child to play while you do the shopping. It's for children over 2 year old and on your first visit you will have to register, bringing the childs birth certificate to prove that they are of the relevant age. It is a drop in chreche between Mondays and Saturdays from 9.30 until 5.45 pm and on a Sunday it is open between 11 and 5 and it is a case of checking whether they have spaces or not. Children take their shoes off when they enter and the automatic door can only be opened from the inside where it is high up outwith a childs reach. Only parents or staff may enter. Whoever drops the child off must collect them to ensure that they are not being taken off by the wrong person. All the staff are well trained and the equipment for the children are full of variety. There is a large built in climbing centre with a ball pit at the bottom and a slide for getting out. Most children play in there though it can get a bit rough for the smaller children. There are also several nursery toys, from role playing, to ride ons, with gluing tables and also a video corner, though I do find, when I put my son in the creche he ends up in the video corner. The prices are fantastic and you are initially charged for 30 mins and then it will increase for every 15 minutes, a parent is not allowed to leave the Gyle Shopping centre when their child is in the creche incase something happens. The Creche can also be hired out for birthday parties. I believe it is around £50 for 90 minutes. The cost includes, use of play equipment, one member of staff to assist and plates and cups. You provide the food, or order food from one of the establishments in the food court. You can also use their kitchen to prepare your food. All in All, if you want some time shopping, kid free, drop them into the creche and have the peace you so rightfully deserve!

The caretaker is a lovely man who is always there to open the door for you. They run a nursery group every day and a mum and toddler group on a Friday. Whitburn Academy is a six-year comprehensive, non-denominational school. The school building opened…read moreoriginally in 1967 and was extensively refurbished and upgraded in 2001/2. It now provides excellent modern educational facilities for pupils from Whitburn and surrounding villages. There are 4 language laboratories ,6 Computing/Business Education Classrooms and 2 IT suites. There are now 10 Science labs,5 Craft & Design labs, 4 Home Economics Rooms, 4 Music Classrooms and 4 Music Tuition Rooms. There is also 1 Gymnasia,1 Games Hall,1 Conditioning Room plus 1 Dance Studio. Also an all weather pitch and changing pavilion plus a Swimming pool. My three children attended this school and all achieved good qualifications. Some of the staff have been there for a long time and this is good when you go to parent nights as they know you and you feel more comfortable discussing your childs education. The Academy is an important part of the community, used for Pantomimes and other shows, the starting point for the yearly gala day and of course it's most recent claim to fame was when local boy, Leon returned after winning X factor!

A great venue for talks and lectures…read more There's one fantastic lecture theatre which is kitted out with all you need including a massive projector screen and microphones scattered through the audience. These make chairing a session a million times easier as you don't have to wear yourself out legging it up and down the stairs with a mic. Other rooms can be used as lecture halls and I must say that I felt well fancy giving a talk surrounded by fancy art and statues in a room with amazing awnings, blood red carpet and fancy gold fixtures. The catering they provide is also great. I've been here several times and it's usually a selection of sandwiches that's vast enough to suit everyone, some fresh fruit and various biscuits. The coffee is good, which is generally not expected when they're catering for 150 odd people! The foyer behind the lecture theatre is big, not decorated all the best but it's big and comfortable. There's a big cloakroom just off it, which is convenient but I imagine not very secure. When there's a lot of people wandering in and out of the building it would be super easy to slip in there unnoticed. Finally, the bathrooms are awesome...they're super fancy!
I went to this school from primary 1 to graduation. It's a tough job reviewing a school and it…read morereally does depend on your year at school. As I graduated a few years back, I can only speak of my experience. I think that St Georges has a lot of great teachers, a lot of fantastic facilities and honestly, it's one of the best schools out there. But when I was there I felt like there was not much trust between many of the senior teachers and their pupils. They didn't really care much for your well being but more for your grades and getting people through the school. I also didn't get the impression they were trying to educate about jobs to go into or careers, it was almost entirely focused on passing exams. As I said, there were some notable exceptions to this but it was definitely prominent in the senior teachers in charge.
