To start, the plumber was friendly enough, but within minutes of arriving, he pivoted straight into trying to sell me a $5,000 water softener system. I don't know when every service call turns into a retail sales pitch, but it's exhausting. I declined and asked to stick to the actual issue. From there, things got worse. Before even inspecting the cartridge or looking behind the wall, he began suggesting a much more invasive (and expensive) solution involving cutting an access panel into my bedroom wall and potentially replacing surrounding plumbing. Again, this was all before any real attempt to diagnose the problem. When I pushed back and said I just wanted the cartridge replaced, I was quoted around $500. High, but fine. Then, after about 30 seconds of trying, he claimed the faucet "wouldn't come off" and immediately went back to pushing the wall-cutting option. I decided to hold off and take a look myself after he left. The faucet was stuck, sure--but with a Dremel, I had it off in under two minutes. A quick trip to Lowe's, about $150 in parts, and an hour of work later, everything is fixed. No leaks, no wall damage, no unnecessary upsell. End result: I saved somewhere between $350 and $1,000, depending on which route they were trying to steer me toward. I don't expect miracles, but I do expect an honest attempt to fix the actual problem before jumping to the most expensive option. This felt far more like a sales call than a service call. Would not use again.

Did not notice until installing cement board and subsequent valves that the cross-2x4 for nailing was not level with the plane of the vertical studs. This means that one tap is proud of the wall, and one is sunken in. This was a few years ago - perhaps he's bought a level since then. Very nice guy, fair prices and professional attitude, but I would rather have had it done right, especially since this was not a complicated job. Every time I take a shower i notice the gap that shouldn't be there. I'm sure he's very good, and we just got the bad day, but there's more to plumbing than stopping leaks and installing appliances - a little bit of carpentry is sometimes necessary. Our shower has no leaks, it just irritates me that simply checking with a level would have made the difference in a five-star review.

I tried everything and spent several days working on this because I hate to call a plumber if it is something I can do myself. Turns out, this was not something I could do. Darn. Someone suggested Forrest the Plumber, I called him, and he sent out his guy the next day with a contraption called a chain snake or something like that. It had two large pieces of chain link on the end and where it attached it could spin "inside" another housing that he fed down the pipe. He guaranteed it would clear the pipe and "keep it clear" up to one year or he'd return and do it again for FREE! It cleared it. It cost almost $400 though, but what are you going to do? If it clogs again, I will definitely call him. It has been a month or so and still working!
