I love Dr. Klein. I came to him in distress - a cracked and infected tooth that needed to be extracted. I had been in pain for weeks and was so grateful to Dr. Klein for fitting me in and getting down to business. He was kind and took the time to explain what was happening, something I appreciated. When I came back to have the stitches removed, I had a horrible rash all over my face and body - it turns out I am allergic to the antibiotic prescribed for the infected tooth. Instead of treating me like a monster, Dr. Klein spent 15 minutes discussing my rash, its origins, and the best way of treating it. I told you, he's the best! I highly recommend Dr. Klein. A few years ago I had a jaw cyst removed - the process went well and Dr. Klein is a very experienced, skilled dental surgeon with "good hands". Recently I had a cracked tooth root canal (performed by another dentist) that Dr. Klein with his imaging technology was able to confirm it was cracked and infected. You cannot rely on the old X-ray technology that many dentists still solely rely on. My regular dentist could confirm neither by X-ray. Dr. Klein removed the cracked tooth, cleaned around another implant that got infected, and also pulled wisdom tooth under a general anesthesia. Dr. Klein fully briefed me as to what he was recommending so I understood what he was doing. I experienced very little swelling and recovery pain, it was an amazing result given the extent of the procedure. Original Review: I was referred to Dr Klein from my dentist for a tooth implant. Upon arriving the office, the communication between my dentist and Dr. Klein was unprofessional. I had to wait for an hour to find out what procedure I needed. With an xray and so called consultant, it costs $400. After paying copay and was assured no balance left. This is the best oral surgeon and was referred to me by my regular dentist. My experience with Dr . Klein was great as I wanted to be put out with my extractions and woke up with no memory of it or pain. Many people have anxiety over extractions but he took that worry about it away. I had all 4 wisdom teeth pulled out by Dr. Klein last month, so I can only speak to my experience with that, but my recovery was amazing. I had never had surgery or anesthesia before, and Dr. Klein was very patient and kind about talking me through it and explaining the procedure thoroughly to ease any anxiety I had. Coming into the surgery, I heard a lot of stories about the swelling and pain/soreness that would undoubtedly follow the extraction. However, as a few of my friends can attest, I experienced almost no swelling or pain at any point after the surgery. The anesthesia wore off pretty quickly after surgery, so I was pretty functional for most of the day. I stopped taking pain meds the night after the surgery (which was right before noon) and everything was completely fine. The holes are still healing, but things look to be going very smoothly. I had a follow-up later on, and everything looked good! Obviously, I can only get these teeth taken out once, but if you're looking for someone to do the job, Dr. Klein was perfect for me. read more

Maybe they feel because their patients only need to see them a few times, as apposed to twice a year like a regular dentist, they can be as slack jawed & air-brained as they want. This office has terrible (aka no) time management and staff are rude. I was referred to this practice by my dentist for a minor procedure. I guess because it is minor, it is low priority and getting an appointment in the first place close to impossible. They use a scheduling service that would take my calls but not pass on messages or put me through to the practice. Once I finally had my appointment, it got cancelled and moved multiple times. Even if the procedure is minor, I still had to take time off work to come in and have someone sub for me in the office - only to wait for hours to then be told that the procedure was cancelled. After two months of trying I never had the procedure done and changed doctors. read more

As mentioned by others Dr. Klein's bedside manner and the surgery itself were very professional, clean, and went well. The reason for my 3-star rating is that during my post-op appointment to have my stitches removed he neglected to take out one of the stitches so when I got home I brushed my teeth and one got caught in the bristles and was tugged. It hurt so badly that I had to cut it and take it out right then and there instead of running back to his office. He also told me that I had decay on my back tooth but when I visited my dentist afterwards she said there was nothing there... so either I'm the most amazing brusher in the world and it went away, or Dr. Klein was mistaken. If I had to do it all over again, would I go to Dr. Klein... yes. Everything went well and I ate a ton of ice cream, what else could I ask for (except perhaps for insurance to actually cover most of the cost?). read more

I had complicated teeth very close to the nerves Making the prospect of surgery very scary. I put it off for 5 years, running from numerous consultations - not feeling comfortable. A friend recommended dr Klein and i called or an emrgency appt. I went in later that day, had consultation ( which he took soooo much time to explain everything in laymans terms and did not rush me at all), and had the surgery I had been dreading. He made it easy. I trusted him 100%, his bedside manner was the best I've seen in a long time. He even took the time to go over insurance concerns and cost in detail. So here I sit waiting for my ride to pick me up, still a little loopy from the meds, in a bit of pain, but 100% happy. I will be coming to dr Klein for many years to come. read more

Let me first say I HATE GOING TO THE DENTIST - I'VE HAD TOO MANY HORRIBLE SITUATIONS AND WOULD TRY TO AVOID IT AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. HOWEVER I joined yelp today just so I could give this review - that's how wonderful my experience was. People, i just had oral surgery YESTERDAY and I feel great TODAY!!! I needed to have a severely impacted wisdom tooth and a tooth directly in front of it removed.I went to Grand Central Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, New York, NY and met Dr. Klein who went over my panoramic x-rays and explained what needed to take place. He listened to my concerns and gave me all the information I needed including an estimate of how much I would have to pay out of pocket since my insurance wouldn't cover the ONE THING I HAD TO HAVE which was general anesthesia. He took his time with me, had a great sense of humor, LISTENED and answered all my questions. He even explained that I would wake up asking "if we started yet" as the "going under part" would be similar to a "twilight" and most importantly that due to the anti swelling medication that I would be given through the IV I would not be in as much pain and would heal quicker. He was right on EVERY COUNT! I feel great for someone who just had surgery. I did not feel a thing except the feeling of hands in my mouth for a moment in the beginning but absolutely NO PAIN, NEEDLES, TUGGING OR PRESSURE OF ANY KIND. DID I SAY NO PAIN???? NO PAIN PEOPLE - NO PAIN!!!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE AND DR. KLEIN. HE is GREAT and so is his staff from the nurses/assistants and front desk personnel; everyone is pleasant, patient, courteous and knowledgable. This experience has restored my faith in dentists. By the way (since I do notice everything) the office is great also, nice colors, welcoming, warming, sanitary of course, inviting and not stuffy! read more

I had two wisdom teeth, #1 & #32, extracted today (the other two were extracted elsewhere several years ago). Dr. Klein is amicable, informative, and professional. He took his time and answered all of my questions thoroughly. The price was reasonable and he accepts my insurance (CIGNA DHMO) so I only had to pay a small "estimated" co-pay. Whether my insurance company fights it will be another story, but that is to be expected and is largely out of his control. The staff was exceptionally friendly/professional and I did not have to wait long at all even though it was an emergency visit. Clean office, comfy leather examination chair, all in all as pleasant an experience as I could reasonably expect a bloody tooth extraction to be. I certainly recommend Dr. Klein. read more

If I were just rating the actual procedure, I'd give it 5 stars. Dr. Klein has always been super nice. For my wisdom tooth removal today, I found out he had done a bunch of surgeries and by the time they got to me, it was past business hours. Dr. Klein was very upbeat and humoring, which helped my nervousness. I was in and out in about an hour and a half and it was basically painless! Now for the rest..... I had an appointment at 2:30 today. I waited until about 5:10 until they called me! That's over two and a half hours WASTED! I saw people coming in after me and coming out after me. I understand they had a lot of surgeries that day but if they knew they were having that much, why didn't they schedule them differently?! It was bad enough that I had to call out of work (the receptionist made a BIG mistake while scheduling my appointment so I had to take whatever open slot they had, which was during work) but I had nothing to eat or drink since 8:30 in the morning! They told me I couldn't eat or drink during the surgery so that 2 and 1/2 hour wait was made more excruciating by my feeling of wanting to pass out. Because of this ridiculous delay, I had to keep telling my friend to pick me up at a different time. She had class at 6 (I was hoping to be done by 4 or 4:30 the latest) so I had to scramble to arrange someone else to pick me up. She was already on the train by the time I realized I wouldn't finish on time so she wasted her time coming out and my friend who did pick me up ended up even waiting an hour. When they FINALLY got to me, the nurse who called me gave me somewhat of an attitude. Like it was all MY fault they had to stay longer. Well, if the receptionist hadn't messed up the dates, that NEVER would have happened. I had to reschedule my entire DAY due to his incompetence, begged to get an appointment for this week and still waited 3 hours to finally get the procedure done! I went through so much more trouble and SHE gives me attitude? She didn't even ask me if I wanted to hang my coat, like I saw other patients were doing. She looked at me as if she wanted me to get in the room and get this whole thing over with. Like I didn't sacrifice ANYTHING AT ALL to get into that chair. Not only was I absolutely LIVID that I had to wait so long without warning but I had to feel bad because they had to do yet ANOTHER surgery. As much as I want to, however, I won't give them a 2 because Dr. Klein did perform very well. I overheard that he had plans so I imagine he must have had to reschedule WITHOUT making a big deal about it, at least not in front of my face. He's an excellent doctor but the system absolutely sucks. Try to make early morning appointments, so the backup won't cause you to wait to long. No matter what, there's ALWAYS back up. I don't ever remember having to wait less than an hour, even for 10 minute consultations. Bring a really good book or PSP, whatever to pass the time. If you're more of an afternoon person, then I strongly urge you to check out other doctors. read more

I had putting off getting my wisdom teeth removed for years. They never really bothered me until recently and my dentist suggested I see Dr. Klein of Grand Central OMS for a consultation. He showed me the x-ray and I could see for myself that all 4 of my wisdom teeth were compacted and sooner or later they would need to come out. Dr. Klein explained every detail of the surgery to me, right down to the billing and what I would be charged. I came in about 3 weeks later and had them removed with general anesthesia. Dr. Klein has great bedside manner and always makes sure the patient is comfortable. I loved that they had classic rock playing in the operating room, not your usual muzac or lite FM. I feel pretty good after the surgery considering. My only gripe with Grand Central OMS is the way they take care of the logistical things. It wasn't until after my surgery that I checked out with billing and my prescription was called into my pharmacy. Having gauze in my mouth and being half asleep, dealing with the billing was not fun and I don't understand why they don't take care of this before the patient goes in for surgery. Also, I was told they have payment plans (my insurance only covered half of the cost) and was expecting some flexibility with this but there wasn't and I was told what I would have to pay each month and there was no chance of that amount being lowered. I'm glad they have the payment plans but I just wish they would be a little more flexible with it. All in all, I highly recommend Dr. Klein of Grand Central OMS if you need to go through oral surgery. read more

I am gone make this review about Dr Stephen Klein and not more about his staff. I had done a tooth implant from him; he carefully listen to all my concerns gave realistic answers on 1 st day itself about procedure item line and cost. Although not 100% sure if you could do immediate implant looking at broken tooth; he promised to try his best to do it and he did. Procedure was about 45mins I didn't feel much pain was little uneasiness though I went after 3 months he gave green signal to go ahead with crown. Been 6 months now after crown is placed no problem whatsoever. Did great job I recommend Bit expensive and u have to wait a while in his office even after making appointment but I generally don't mind time and money as long as I get in proper hands. I was told by my boss at an MRI co that Dr. Klein was fantastic. Although I live in long island, I decided to go out of my way to get 2 molars removed, 2 wisdom teeth and a manipulation of my jaw (for chronic TMJ) & venture into the city for my surgery. Dr Klein and his staff were caring, comforting and did an excellent job. They make you feel so welcomed and went above and beyond to maintain my emotional and physical comfort. I would recommend dr Klein to all of my family members!! But one problem I did have was that when the anesthesia wore off I was sitting in traffic on my way back to long island w/o pain meds!! They did send me on my way with an 800mg motrin. But a few hours later u start to really feel the pain. So if u travel far to see him, stop at a pharmacy before leaving the city. read more

I went to see my regular dentist for a cleaning and exam. I had compalined about an occassional sharp pain around my wisdom tooth. Moemnts later, it was explained and advised to me that my wisdom tooth was destined to be removed. I had visions of a needlenose plier yanking out this tooth with local anesthesia. No Way ! I went to see Dr. Klein and was so glad I did. Such a gorgeous, and beautifully updated office with state of the art equipment and a professional and courteious staff. Dr. Klein took the time to make feel relaxed and explain to me, step by step, what was going to happen next. I was able to enjoy some great music, watch television and feel comfortable during the entire procedure. I was a bit nervous which is probably to be expected but now, I actually look forward to having my other wisdom teeth extracted. Do yourself a favor and see Dr. Klein ! read more

I'm not trying to deter anyone from seeing this office, rather encouraging to know what to ask beforehand if they don't offer it upfront. I trust that these people are all inherently nice and the other reviews hold true. This are just facts of my experience. I came referred to this office for a consult on my infected molar and they did not offer anything, but to extract. He pulled my infected tooth without examining it or offering an option of antibiotics - fact not opinion. They spent more time trying to setup an implant appt than explaining about the original reason for coming - fact not opinion (I timed it). I spent more time in their recovery hutch than in "operation" - fact not fiction. The technicians were very nice and attentive checking if I had any discomfort. They did not explain on the effects of extracting i.e. eventually the remaining teeth can shift so an implant is likely inevitable. They never discussed how much for the extraction nor the estimated costs of an implant (it's about $4-6K FYI)- fact not opinion. Even my regular dentist felt badly that there was no consultation just extraction. Look at their office interior design and think about it. Anyone who wants details can contact me. Great work by Dr. Ward but the staff is extremely disgruntled! I listened to two staff members complain right in front of me about having to stay later because the doctor had agreed to see a patient who obviously had an emergency and needed to come in last minute. My wait was always at least an hour with no apologies and my last visit was a total waste of time because they didnt even have my results yet. Dr. Ward promised to call me with the results...never did....had to follow up through my dentist. The worst part is I went to them at the recommendation of my dentist for minor oral surgery, provided them with all of my insurance information and was told the work would be covered only to receive a rather large bill from them because it turns out they never did accept my insurance. Im writing this same review on CitySearch: I've been putting off having my wisdom teeth pulled out until it started bothering me. All four have broken through the gum line and food keeps getting stuck in between them, and also two have gotten cavities. I've decided to get them all out at the same time so my best option was to go to an oral surgeon because my regular dentist can only work on my two upper wisdom teeth. I've read all of Dr. Klein's reviews and they're all pretty much on target. I opted to be asleep through the whole thing, and expected a painful recovery but believe it or not, I have none. Aside from the normal swelling of my cheeks and some soreness, the pain level from 1-10, (10 being most painful), I'd have to say its 3. He's either a miracle worker or I just lucked out. Im writing this on the 3rd day after surgery and i'm already eating normal food. With careful chewing of course. My first initial consult with Dr. Klein, he took the time to run over the billing with me. Because of some negative reviews about the billing problems, I just made sure to run all the billing a week before my tooth extraction, i called my insurance to see if they will cover what is supposed to be covered, and I called Dr. Klein's office again and asked what is to be paid out of pocket. Overall, I'm super happy with the results and I would definitely go back if I ever need to again. read more

I had incredible mouth, tooth, jaw pain for over 2 months. I went to the dentist a total of FIVE times, a primary care doc, the ER (when it got really bad) and neurologist and finally the oral surgeon. Dr. Kein looked at the same exrays the dentists looked at and didn't see anything and saw exactly what the problem was. pointed out a possible fracture and a big infection. He was able to look in my mouth and tell me exactly what was going on and what we needed to do to fix it. He put me under (bc i was in SO much pain) and extracted the tooth. Dr. Klein and his staff were some of the first that I encountered on my long road to figure out what was wrong with me, who I actually felt like knew what they were talking about and i could trust. as soon as I made it home and took a nap after the surgery, i felt like a brand new person. It was amazing because just a few hours before that i was in excruciating pain and overall felt so sick and weak from the infection. Thank goodness for Dr. Klein. I am feeling SOOOO much better. oh and one other note- I did not have a scheduled appt. it was an emergency surgery. I had to wait a while but duh... of course... there were people there have surgery that scheduled in advance. I was just so beyond happy that they would even see me that day. They were so accommodating. I completely disagree with the review below that says do not see them for an emergency. I had three wisdom teeth pulled last week and all i can say is that unlike most people, my experience was extremely pleasant. Dr. Klein took me in and went through every detail and what i could expect upon recovery. The staff was very professional from the setting up of the appointment to the very end at checkout. The front staff explained that because my appointment was toward the end of the day, the best thing to do was call to check up on the doctors schedule to see if he ran behind due to any emergencies on the day of my surgery. I received a call from a very pleasant lady, I believe she runs the front office, who explained that Dr. Klein was running an hour behind and i was able to remain at work for that hour. When i finally arrived at the office my wait time was about ten minutes. Dr. Klein did apologize for the delay and eventually started the anesthethia. The entire process was very smooth and extremely pleasant. After the surgery was done and over with, again the lady at the front desk went over all of the aftercare instructions with me. I had a million questions to ask and she was more then happy to explain everything in detail with me. My fiance came to pick me up and he too had a few questions to which he got all answers to as well. The entire staff at the office put me at ease and should i ever need oral surgery again, i will have it done at this office again! I have read all the complaints dealing with the billing people. I did speak directly with the gentleman at the billing office and was explained that the percentage paid by me as copay is based on what the insurance company tells him when he calls for coverage. It is only an estimate and in a few weeks i will receive my explanation of benefits. If there is a personal balance due, i would know a few days prior to them, as well as if they cover more then i paid. Again, i have NO complaints about the office or any of the staff. I am due to return this week for my follow up and removal of stitches. I look forward to seeing the staff again. Did i mention how absolutely beautiful the office is as well? I needed an implant and was a little nervous to have it done and worried about the cost. Dr. Klein was recommended to me by my dentist. He was so nice and explained everything to me and worked really well with my doctor to make sure everything was done perfectly. From the extraction to the actual implant, it couldn't have gone better! I really loved the office and the staff. They talked to me about the costs and in the end it wasn't as much as i thought, and i have a permanent tooth now!
