Serious scheduling and professionalism issues at the front desk I want to lay out exactly what happened because I think other patients deserve to know before they book here. 6/24: I called and scheduled an appointment for 7/15 at 2:00 PM. For the next two weeks: I received zero confirmation -- no call, text, or email. Nothing. 7/7 (first call): I called myself to confirm since I'd heard nothing. The front desk staff member answered, then abruptly told me to hold while she started talking to someone else on another line. When I asked if she was even talking to me, she hung up without a word. I had to call back a second time that same day just to get an answer. She confirmed the appointment and told me she'd call again two days before to reconfirm. Two days before the appointment: That promised call never happened. One day before the appointment: She finally called -- only to tell me the doctor no longer had my confirmed time available and asked if I could take an earlier slot instead. Less than 24 hours' notice to completely rearrange my schedule, after being told twice that everything was locked in. When I explained I couldn't make the new time, she offered a next-available date that was also too far out to work for me. She has no real acknowledgment that any of this was an inconvenience on my end. She made no apologies at all time. The bigger issue: This wasn't one bad day. It's a repeated pattern -- no follow-through on promises to confirm, getting hung up on as a paying patient, and last-minute changes with zero notice. That's a work ethic problem at the front desk, and it directly affects whether patients can actually rely on this office. I originally chose this practice because a friend had a great experience with the doctor here, and I have no doubt the clinical care may be good. But I can't recommend this office as long as the front desk is run this way -- the disorganization and disregard for patients' time undoes all the goodwill the doctor may have earned. Management really needs to address this. read more

I went into this office today to talk to the doctor about a simple biopsy. I arrived on time and waited 1 hour for the doctor who I never saw. Mind you I did not have off I was expected to log back into work. I chose this doctor because he has really great reviews. The only person that was kind and professional was the front desk receptionist. I said hi to the doctor ( not sure if he was my doctor because he never introduced himself CLASSY) he was in the same room completely ignoring me. My case was not complex and perhaps there lies the issue. He could not make money off me that's probably why he didn't give me the same type of courtesy and respect as the people in the comment sections that just needed their teeth pulled out because that's instant money. Perhaps my case was outside of his expertise, which is strange but I did see another comment--similar situation similar experience. Wish I had saw that comment before I booked with this place. Not sure if it was racial bias, arrogance, or just outright unprofessionalism, none of it was okay. What I wanted was not even complex. I just needed scar tissue that was caused from braces to be removed because I got a prosthetic tooth installed and I keep biting the inside of my cheek. Is that not what Oral surgeon's do??? to me it seems like a simple snip snip. I would remove it myself If I could. Moving forward please treat everyone with kindness and respect whether you're making money off them or not. Furthermore, if the procedure is outside of your expertise then relay that information to your staff so that people don't waste their time commuting to your establishment where you don't even perform that type of procedure. Oh and the medical assistant, I don't know what her job title was but she was rude. I felt like I was bothering them. Finally, please deploy some type of integrity about yourself because it really is unbecoming of any business owner or professional. Let me start with my huge thanks to Dr.Hegedus. I don't usually write a review but he deserves this 100%. I have 1199 insurance which is extremely difficult to find a provider accept this insurance, but luckily Dr.Hegedus takes this insurance so I didn't hesitate a second to make an appointment with him. I was very nervous on my consultation because I have a lot teeth issues and I need to remove my wisdom teeth, but Dr.Hegedus ease my mind easily, he's very patience and knowledgeable and answered all my questions, and luckily, I was able to make an appointment on the next day to remove my two upper wisdom teeth. The whole procedure took about 20 minutes and I received local anesthesia, and I didn't feel pain at all. After the procedure, Dr. Hegedus sat down with me and explained post-procedure care with me carefully. Now it's two weeks since I had my wisdom teeth removed and I'm healing beautifully, I'm just very happy that I can find a trustworthy and professional dentist like Dr.Hegedus in NYC. I have already recommended him to my friends and family. PS: I just checked my insurance bill and I gotta say he charged very fair. I highly recommend Dr. Hegedus. He is warm and personable. I put off taking out my lower wisdom teeth which were impacted for many years because I was scared and anxious. However after my first consultation with Dr. Hegedus I felt very at ease. He was patient, answered all my questions and clearly explained the process and his experience with extraction of impacted wisdom teeth. I finally got them out and everything went according to plan. I wish I had met Dr. Hegedus sooner. His receptionist and assistant were also very helpful and pleasant to work with. Went to Dr. Hegedus for 3 wisdom teeth removal around 2 weeks ago. Had local anesthesia so I was awake during the process (which I liked). The two upper teeth were off very fast- around 10 mins for the first and 5 mins for the second; and then my bottom tooth (horizontal and near the nerves) was out in around 25 mins. The doctor was very nice and we had great conversations. His assistant was amazing too- made me feel very comfortable. Overall it was a fast and good experience! I had all four of my impacted wisdom teeth out and let me just say that Dr. Hegedus and, rather, the entire office is fantastic. This whole team really has the process down. Mandy at the front desk is really fabulous, she was well informed and precise in all insurance dealings. By the time i walked out of my consultation she had the exact rundown and price for the entire process. My two nurses (sorry guys I forgot your names in my post-surgery anesthesia haze!) were so kind. The morning I came in for the surgery I was extremely anxious, they chatted with me and really calmed me down. Dr. Hegedus himself was great. He explained the process from start to finish with me and helped me come to the decision that based on my procedure IV sedation was the best route. I had the operation done on a Thursday and I was back in the office on Monday with minimal swelling and next to no bruising. I had no complications from the entire procedure. Wisdom Teeth extraction wasn't that bad as everyone been telling me. I had 4 wisdom teeth removed at the same time with Local anesthesia. I was fully awake through the whole process. The process only took 1 hr. His Assistants and Central Park view kept me well distracted. I made sure i stay head of the pain with those prescription painkiller. I was on painkiller for 3 days after that the pain were very minor. I went back for the checkup after 10days and everything is A OK! First of all, the receptionist was very one top of communication with my insurance company, and what was and was not insured, and how much uninsured services would cost was made very clear, which is really nice. Dr. Hegedus is no-nonsense, but still has time to answer all questions. Dr. Hegedus is one of the finest medical professionals that I have ever worked with and because of that I joined Yelp today to make this my first recommendation. I have been a patient of Dr. Hegedus for the past year having been referred to him for the extraction of a failed root canal (from another dentist years ago). The original plan was to see Dr. Hegedus for the extraction and then see a periodontist for a dental implant. The periodontist that I met with gave me a 2 minute overview of what he was going to do, didn't analyze the x-rays, and made me uncomfortable that I was making the best decision regarding my dental health with his casual "1-size fits all" approach to dental implants. When I met with Dr. Hegedus it was a completely different experience. He was in medical scrubs, with multiple surgery rooms, and I felt like I was meeting with someone to discuss a hearth transplant. Dr. Hegedus had state of the art x-ray equipment and analytical tools (consistent with a top oral surgeon and not a typical dental office). After analyzing my x-rays we sat down together and he explained to me in tremendous detail the extraction procedure, the position of my sinus floor and why I might require a bone graft, and how he would recommend proceeding to maximize my chances of having a successful implant for the rest of my life. I was floored at the difference between the periodontist and Dr. Hegedus. I immediately asked him to do my implant because I knew that I was elevating the level of care I would receive by a factor of 10. Over the past year I have worked with Dr. Hegedus to execute a very conservative multi-step procedure that involved extraction, monitoring bone growth, a bone graft, and allowing the entire area to heal before moving forward with the implant. It blows me away that I almost had a periodontist give me an implant 2 weeks after my extraction with no thought given to how the jaw bone would heal and what type of graft I would need to make a proper implant. Dr. Hegedus treated my extraction and implant like my dental health was the most important thing in the world and he followed best practices at every turn. The periodontist was treating my implant like I was coming in for a filling. I got the impression that Dr. Hegedus is the guy that everyone would want teaching the next generation of young surgeons. He is so methodical, precise, knowledgeable, and he has the calm confidence that he knows exactly what he is doing from being the most experienced surgeon at the top of his profession. Appointments & follow-up at his office are also better than what I have experienced in any other medical office. Dr. Hegedus doesn't like to fill up his calendar months in advance. Rather, he keeps his calendar very fluid, reminding patients when its time for a follow-up and then offering a wide range of available appointments when the time has come for the procedure. It's a unique way to handle booking appointments that left me never having a problem seeing the doctor exactly when I wanted too. On top of this, he called me personally the night of my procedures to make sure that everything was going well. He was genuinely concerned at every step of the way and his staff is a reflection of his calm and caring personality. Strong recommendation: I am writing here because I know that this is an important tool for the professional community and I want to help Dr. Hegedus. I have recommended that a co-worker change oral surgeons for his next implant because I am certain that Dr. Hegedus will be better. I had to get four wisdom teeth out, and also had complications with a cyst that had formed in my jaw. Dr. Hegedus and his office were phenomenal. They walked me through every step of the procedure, took the time to answer any question I had, and shared ahead of the procedure what the associated costs would be. Dr Hegedus is the gentlest, kindest dentist I've ever met. I was too nervous and scared at the wisdom teeth removal surgery but he and two other girls(Sorry forgot their names!) took care of everything and did a great job! I really appreciate them for having my teeth removed. Before surgery I saw other dentists as well and they recommended me to take general anesthesia because I need to remove all four teeth, two of which are impacted. And I am scared of needles. But Dr Hegedus told me a local anesthesia would be totally enough for my situation. I trusted him and was very glad I did. The anesthesia shots in my mouth were much bearable than I expected. After that I felt nothing but only some pressure. The procedure took about 35min. The recovery took about a week and now I can eat anything again! Thank you Dr Hegedus!! read more

I went in December to get two wisdom teeth extracted. The initial appointment went well. My insurance (DC-37) requires that I pay upfront first for that, but will be reimbursed. The front office staff (which is polite & professional) handle all of that. I have received my reimbursement check with no issues. The second appointment, the actual extraction, also went well. The dental assistant was so nice and encouraging and Dr. Hegedus explained everything he was doing. The appointment was quick and painless and they had already submitted my prescription during the procedure, so right after I just went a block or 2 away and picked it up. They sent me home with instructions, gauze, and an ice pack. I really recommend them. The extraction sites have healed nicely with no complications. read more

Every one of these 5 star reviews are spot on! After having an issue with my insurance, I was lucky enough to get to select an oral surgeon. I read Dr. Hegedus' reviews on Yelp and set up an appointment to remove one of my wisdom teeth. After an x-ray and a short wait, Dr. Hegedus sat me down and gave me a careful and detailed explanation about the procedure and why I should also get my second wisdom tooth removed at the same time. I have bad teeth and I knew getting both of them out at the same time would pay off in the long run, so I agreed. A week later, I was back in the chair for a 40 minute surgery. The surgery was very smooth, Dr Hegedus and his wonderful, friendly assistants were very professional and quick. I was ready for a painful experience, but there was only the mild discomfort one would expect with such a procedure. Post surgery, I was given detailed instructions about what to do the next few days in terms of hygiene and nourishment. I had my two wisdom teeth extracted here by Dr. Hegedus. The whole process was very smooth, the staff were very nice and helpful in both scheduling the surgery and assisting the surgery. Dr. Hegedus was able to only use local anesthetic instead of the whole body anesthetic which some other doctor suggested for taking out my two lower wisdom teeth. The surgery was very quick (about 30 mins including the wait time for the anesthetic to take effect). The pain killer and the antibiotic helped a lot in my recovering period. He was polite, personable, and professional. He didn't make me feel rushed while speaking with him and let me ask all the questions that I wanted. While speaking about the procedure he seemed confident which is was a good thing because that made me feel at ease as well. Everything was explained to me as far as how the procedure would be done and what to expect afterwards. Besides for Dr. Hegedus, I had met Mandy and his dental assistant, Alexandra(?). Both of them were equally friendly and professional as Dr. Hegedus. Procedure: Probably took 30-45 min or so but felt like 5 (went for IV sedation). Really don't have a basis for comparison but both teeth are out, no infection and no dry socket. I'd have to say that it went pretty well.
