Remember that these places are maintained for the welfare of the wildlife; you are a visitor to this habitat, and you often will see some pretty cool things. But this is not like the zoo where you are guaranteed to see something everyday and half the time you don't have to be paying attention. For example, today I saw lots of birds (these are hard to miss), alligators (normally not hard to see but today I saw one eating), deer (not hard to see other places but not always abundantly here if you don't pay attention), and a young owl just off the side of the road. And then there were all the mosquitoes today (always remember to carry bug spray). As a matter of fact, some of the bugs were downright aggressive so that what walking I normally do was abbreviated by comparison. Don't bring your boombox and don't expect a playground. Expect a quiet environment to see the wildlife, either by yourself or with a small group. (There is a small dock area if you are so inclined.) check it out. A couple of girls I hung out in the SWT Surf Club were from Surfside. So on this day leaving Galveston, we headed south towards Surfside Beach. Once we arrived in the quaint little beach town, we drove around looking at the beach, jetty, then stumbled upon Fortaleza de Velasco. We stopped to take a look around. Interesting to see the painting with these words "on December 21, 1821, The Lively (ship) landed at the mouth of the Brazos (River) in present day Surfside Beach with the first 20 of 300 Colonists to settle in Texas"... The workers were extremely nice in helping us find the location of our event. Bathroom were clean, and the parking is easy and plentiful!

Got called for Jury Duty and this was my first time to this courthouse. It was super easy but the…read moredoors don't open till 7:30 for the jurors to be let inside. It's the usual scanning process as everywhere. Everyone was super nice and it went smoothly. They had people there showing us where to go (this was in the new courthouse) so it wasn't hard to find at all. The bathrooms were easily accessible and there was even a small cafe if you needed, I got called in the first jury pool for voir dire at the old courthouse and it had hard benches and just vending machines. You had to go through security there too of course. Lots of signs and people helping us find our places so that was helpful. I didn't get picked which I was a little sad about as the case sounded interesting. You get a prepaid card when you turn in your jury summons and they will let you know when your $20 is on there. They said 2 weeks to a month I think. All in all not a bad experience as long as I'm in the jury box and not facing one!
