It is common practice here to put children in a closed private room, refuse to let parent in, and strap them down to a chair with restraints. Sounds false? sounds abusive? ask them! On your first visit when you sign the normal plethora of forms, one of them is a small note giving them permission to use restraints on your child. I put a big NO and did not sign. My son did fine with his cleaning no problems, then needed more work. They brought me the restraint form & said they wouldnt treat him if i didnt sign; He is 9! The dentist who would be with my child in the private room, Dr.Welford, we had never seen and he would not even meet me or talk to me, he stayed hidden in the other room and sent the hygienist to relay messages. Said it was normal for every child to be restrained for their own safety and I would not be allowed in the room. NO WAY!!! What parent would agree to this!!?! Since then Ive heard horror stories from other Moms whose child was taken to the private room and strapped to the chair without their knowledge. Then they LIED to me and said no dentist in Mobile would allow me to stay with child and referred me to some place in P'cola. Needless to say that is far from the truth.
