We could not be happier with our experience working with Stephanie Mollinier this past year as our doula. We were so impressed with how well she adapted to our needs and supported us throughout the pregnancy.
From the beginning, she was invested in getting to know us and understanding our pregnancy and birth wishes. This allowed us to build instant rapport with her and feel comfortable working with her from the get go. She facilitated our meetings with an open mind as she allowed us to guide where the conversation was going. We felt assured that she had our best interest in mind and worked towards helping us feel confident in our birth plan.
Stephanie has a breadth of knowledge and was consistently able to answer our questions with good insights. She had a way to ask follow up questions that helped us pinpoint what we wanted to better understand. This helped make our conversations more purposeful and relevant.
She provided us with great resources that helped us build inner confidence f. First, she has a nifty array of exercises to help with body positioning and support that came in handy during labor. She led an activity that was particularly helpful in visualizing the timeline of the different stages of labor to best prepare us for when the moment came.
Most importantly, she helped my partner and I create a strong line of communication with each other. It was great to build up our partnership during the entire process as it strengthened our connection even further.
Overall, Stephanie is an absolute rock star of a doula. She was what we needed and was more than we could could ask for.
We do have a special shout out to another doula who we cannot speak highly enough.
Due to some unfortunate circumstances, Stephanie could not help us during active labor due to a COVID exposure, and therefore needed to come up with a back up plan quickly. Stephanie talked to us over the phone and went over the plan with us. Even though it was short notice, we did not miss a beat and our substitute doula, Caren, came in a few hours later and was amazing from the get go.
We could tell that Stephanie updated Caren with all the important details and shared our birth plan with her. Even though we had a different doula, we felt right at home with Caren. She knew what questions to ask us and the medical staff, suggested a lot of positions and manual techniques for pain management, and had a calming presence that helped us stay positive and confident. We used so many of the techniques that we had learned with Stephanie and learned a couple new ones too- labor included dancing, squatting, using the TENS machine, going in the shower and lots of massages and pressure points.
Caren always made sure our voices were heard in every conversation with the medical team and talked through all the options we were given at different stages of the process. She was level-headed and super professional with everyone involved, we always felt reassured and prepared for whatever came next.
Labor ended up being long (38hours!) but thanks the the preparation we had with Stephanie and the coaching from Caren, it was a successful and empowering experience. Our beautiful baby girl was born healthy via a vaginal delivery, and we had an hour of skin to skin bonding afterwards. Caren helped us with our first breastfeeding attempt and taught us about latching and answered some of our baby related questions before heading home.
A couple weeks later, we were able to have a post partum conversation with each of the doulas. Each conversation helped us reflect on our journey, talk about our aspirations and concerns regarding post partum, and feel ready to take on parenthood in the best way we can.
We cannot recommend Stephanie and Caren enough! read more
