The National Optometry Centre offers FREE eye exams!! Ok admittedly they're student run clinics, but that actually works to your benefit. The students are excited to learn and to be performing tests on you, and because of this you actually get a more thorough exam that you might get with a seasoned vet. Still worried about the capabilities of students checking out your eyes well not to worry all tests and results are re-checked by a supervising consultant. I had a really great experience here and everyone was super friendly and helpful and I left feeling like my eyes had gotten their best exam in years and even better because it was all FREE. Donal O Malley, upstairs, is my optician, and does an excellent job. He has more than 30 years optician experience, and has seen every issue before. While I could be given a stronger prescription, and while other opticians have suggested I need a stronger one, he tells me that my eyes will just degrade faster if I do. They were able to fit me in and took my glasses off to check them before giving me an eye test which they then did quite throughly. Health of my eyes all good no drastic change in my vision so I did not need new glasses. I asked about the operation you can have to correct your sight but I was told that my eye sight was not really bad enough. I do like it when I am advised that I dont have to spend money. I also asked about getting frames from on line - I had noticed the cost of their frames in the shop and I was told there would be a charge of €45 for them doing the fitting. I was very impressed that I was not pushed into buying anything else and all my questions were answered clearly and to my satisfaction. While there I thought I may as well get my hearing checked as I do on occasion get told by family members that they think that I am deaf. Had head phones put over my ears to block any sound and all I had to do was press a button when I heard any sound from a machine. Simple. Tested well for my hearing and asked the girl to confirm to said mother I was not deaf. Bless her she told my mother I had 'selective hearing'. ...she is probably quite correct.

Went in at blanch store to get my eye…read moresight checked up and requested the staff to give me in writting whatever my eye sight is coming up, as i am going through alot of other treatment at the moment so my GP wanted to have a eye sight checked properly. Mentione everything to staff at the start what i actually want from them and main reason why i am there. Met 3-4 different staff members during this time and at the end the last one staff memeber said she cannot give anything in writting .. There was alot of staff in the store but seems staff need more training about the services they can offer. I wish staff should have mention this to me at the start so i would not waste my 1 hour there and find an alternative place who actually have more trainned staff. Complete waste of time.

Also the price advertised for Varifocal from 230 Euros ended up paying 540 Their so called designer frames are cheaply made. After one of my lenses got scratched I decided to look for a new optician. Found one in Dalkey. Gill Opticians were absolutely amazing. From the time I entered their establishment the customer service was excellent and huge selection of high quality designer frames Also they use Zeiss lenses which are the best. If you need glasses that will last you for long time I would recommend Gill Opticians to anyone. You won't be disappointed
