Increased agreed upon pricing due to rise in lumber costs from COVID when there was no provision in contract for such increase. Owner asked me to take out a loan for $20k in my name and he would pay back 1/2 to me for extra money to cover increase. He provided me with a contractors' lender and hounded me until I did it. He repaid about $800.00 and refused, ignored my multiple requests for reimbursement which caused me financial hardship. Would play the sympathy card about having 2 children to support and I was taking away from them. I paid the loan in full. He repeatedly reminded me that I got a top job, he was the best around, that he should have charged me more, etc. I subsequently learned he was not trustworthy by subcontractors who worked for him over the years. The addition turned out very well but this crew lacked integrity, honesty and professionalism.

I ended up doing the thermostats and doorbell myself, and got the wiring done for the garbage disposal from another electrician which cost me a whopping $150.00. Also... Distance to and from my house is irrelevant when you chose to come out that way and clearly have my house located in the area you serve. Here we have a company that is unreliable and a master of the bait and switch game. Steve, disappeared in the midst of our bathroom renovations with 14000.00 in his pocket. He did not pay his contractors and therefore they would not return. We were told this would take all of ten days and here we were at 26 days, no workers,we no functional shower/ tub, sink or toilet! He contended he was ill and yet he was not the working force here, the contractors he hired were and the reality was he was not passing on these two down payments to them. Our recovery was to hire another and at a cost to us. 15 weeks after starting, with further loss of revenue we had a functional bathroom. We will be filing with the Rhode Island Board of Contractors on Ocean State General Contractors but for you my friends, DO NOT HIRE STEVE and do not hire Ocean State as you will be left holding the bag and the cost.

We signed a contract in April 2021 to COMPLETE by the end of July 2021. What we got was nothing but headaches and excuses for FOURTEEN months. Initially, we didn't think much of it when the deadline came and went but the litany of excuses started coming and never stopped. We gave the first 1/3 of the project as a deposit. When nothing had happened two months after deadline, we were somehow convinced to drop yet another 1/3 for materials. Fast forward to November, December more radio silence followed by excuses. We finally gave a hard deadline in January (which passed) and somehow, we allowed that to be pushed to early February for completion. Since we were told the project would be completed off site, we asked for photos. To this day, we never received any proof of any aspect of project completion. At this point, we asked for and were promised a full refund within 30 days- no sooner because of "industry standards." At the end of the 30 days, we received only half. Then the new litany of excuses for the remainder started coming. He eventually stopped responding. We had to file a complaint with the state. After a painful 3+ months later, an investigator was able to recoup the remaining amount. This was after we were promised a refund of a job we have no proof he did and 14 months after signing a contract with him. We are thankful we finally received our deposit back, but this was after no work was done and over a year of headaches.

They then layer the binder and the top coat. Come to find out they got the wrong topcoat and had to rip the whole driveway up and redo it again! In the midst of me observing, their guys were swearing at each other, using racist slurs, at one point I thought I was going to have to call the cops because 2 of them wanted to fight. Long story short, I had to pay for THEIR MISTAKES. Was told one price and paid a totally different price. Bad communication, employees don't care, won't accept responsibility, the list goes on. Upon talking to other people, rumor has it he also uses his employees for a few weeks then refuses to pay them and puts no trespassing orders on them. He's done it to 3 guys over there, hence why the employees must do a shitty job. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY! There are being looked at by DOT & BBB!
