The outlet had a GFI popped but wouldn't reset. The soak was still amazing though. Indulgent. We did hear some good road noise now and then and people walking up the stairs but that's to be expected. The Red Mill is nestled into a hillside off the main street in Weaverville via a very short dirt and gravel road. The red-sided office and cabins are lined up in a half-circle formation. My wood-paneled room was spartan but on a damp December evening the small electric heater made the room toasty in no time. The bedding may not meet Martha Stewart's aesthetic standards but it's clean and comfortable. As the night's stillness settled on the hillside, I felt as if I were a guest at a friend's house and it made falling asleep a comforting feeling.

The only goal of my review was to inform the Google / Yelp communities that you apparently are not currently in the business of offering lodging to tourists. That's a shame. While I have stayed in Weaverville several times, I called you first for this trip, as your location and proximity to the river was very appealing, and your reviews on both Google and Yelp were quite good and better than most of the properties in Weaverville. As I have not visited your property, I probably should have tempered my "NOT recommended" notation. That is in-fact "hearsay" based on the comments of a third party and should not be admissible. I apologize. I have absolutely no problem with your business decision to help your community's locals instead of random tourists. Having permanent and full-time occupancy certainly sounds like a much easier business model. However, if in fact you do not currently have lodging available for tourists, it would be most helpful if you could notify Google / Yelp that you are "temporarily closed". I did notice that the website link offered on both services does not work. I guess that might have been a clue. For the record, I will note as sad commentary that very many communities now suffer the Air BnB effect, whereby tourists live in the homes and locals live in the motels. There ought to be a law... I commenced making reservations for my trip on June 3. As the Weaverville area is the first night of my vacation, I attempted to make those reservations first, and do believe that I called on that day. I know absolutely that I called on June 4, which would have been a follow-up call. It was only on June 28 that I realized I still had no reservations for my first night, that my calls had not been returned, and called again. Upon receiving the same OGM, I reached out to another business to inquire if you were even open, learned of your status, and posted the review to alert other users. So, 30 minutes in your view, but 3 and a half weeks in mine. I cannot explain the "disconnect". I am still not clear as to whether you currently have any rooms to offer the public. Whether you do or not, it would be helpful for you to clarify your current situation. Thank you.

The manager is the best guy who is always around to help but isn't at all overbearing. The river is super close and the fishing and swimming are off the hook. It looks a just a little run down outside, but again if you look closer it's clean and well taken care of, don't let that fool you, you literally couldn't do better for the price. It's become one of our favorite places to stay and we are so grateful we found it. If you want a place down the road from the river that is clean and comfortable you should give it a try!

Very disappointed about that! Also, they're was NO place to sit comfortably...ie.. comfortable chairs. The only chairs were VERY uncomfortable metal chairs... not even any chair pads. No couch or upholstered chairs... NONE. The only place to sit was the bed (which was also very low to the floor... not good for us older people (in our 80's) to to try to get up from with bad knees!!). I have stayed here a number of times and "the best" room wasn't the best that I've stayed at this hotel. I do think it's probably the best hotel in Weaverville. With a few adjustments, they could make this motel so much better. The guy that runs it seemed willing to accommodate, but we stayed one night and left early so, hopefully, they'll read this and make necessary improvements: Higher(adult) toilets... or grab bars Higher bed Clean floors Comfortable chairs!!! He and his wife are slowly refurbishing the entire place. It used to house the homeless with vouchers, but not anymore. The homeless can be tough on anything they touch. It was summertime and was 105° fortunately they have a swimming pool. Had a few gnats and 3 pincher bugs get into the room, but it wasn't a bad place to stay.
