From a tenant's point of view, the staff at Steed-Corry Property Management is dishonest, cheap, and knowingly indulges in illegal acts.
They tried to evict me after nearly nine years of faithful tenancy, having never been late on rent nor caused any major problems. One of the three employees concocted a story about me having threatened them and that I had been a nuisance.
They retracted the eviction after I notified them I would be contesting the eviction due to it being served on false grounds. I was then told my lease would not be renewed when it expired three months hence.
The issue began with me informing them of a burn on the carpet which occurred when power was restored after a power out. My faulty extension cord was the cause and I had renter's insurance as was required by SCPM.
After I advised them of the incident, no action was taken by SCPM to repair or replace the damaged carpet for three months, and then only after me having to remind them of the incident.
I was compelled to remind them because I asked the insurance company of the status of my claim. The insurance broker's response was that SCPM had never submitted an invoice to them, and the claim is closed until said invoice is submitted. Furthermore, I was told by my broker that SCPM was told to email the invoice DIRECTLY to the insurance company which SCPM failed to do.
Finally, a person was sent to my apartment to repair the carpet. I don't know why SCPM chose to repair the carpet rather than replace it because MY insurance would cover the cost either way. The patch is noticeable does demonstrate the fact that SCPM hires fix-it men rather than professionals.
Ultimately, the issue was somewhat resolved until I received a $300 charge for carpet repair from SCPM. I texted Linda at that time and suggested to her that the insurance company had probably aske SCPM to forward the invoice DIRECTLY to them to thwart insurance fraud. Linda responded to this with "That makes sense." I still have these texts as I have saved documentation of all other actions and communication with SCPM.
To this day I often wonder why SCPM did not just email the invoice to the insurance company instead of giving me so much grief. It would have been exactly the same effort on their part.
I am required to carry renters' insurance, which policy was approved by SCPM. I wonder why they don't abide by their own rules.
There are more details regarding this incident but so many negative things have occurred that it becomes redundant.
I am also informed that Linda does indulge in some recreational drug use. I am unaware of the extent but was told by two separate people who had used drugs with her on occasions. Perhaps her substance use is affecting her ability to manage the company in a responsible and productive manner.
One final note. Upon my moving in, I was given a Damage Report to fill out should I notice anything not observed when I did a walkthrough. I filled it with so many items that I ran out of room. Items such as a shower that did not work at all, hard water buildup in the toilet, kitchen sink not draining correctly due to an improper installation of the p-trap, electrical outlets that would not hold a plug because they were so worn out, etc. All things which would not be noticed in a walkthrough. As of today, eight and half years later, most of these things remain unrepaired. Except for the plumbing and the holes in two-bedroom doors, all of which I was compelled to correctly repair myself.
I am a bit remorseful of the many repairs I made as I know for a fact the cumulative cost of my efforts to SCPM, or who they represent, would be easily between ten and twenty thousand dollars. read more
