We contacted King's Roofing via their contact form on their website. After 3 days we still hadn't heard back - strike one. So we did it again and this time actually got a reply. So we set a meeting so Seth King could give us a quote on a very big job we have - probably in the neighborhood of 30 thousand dollars. He emailed to tell us he'd be late for that meeting - he was 40 minutes late - strike two. He got here and measured everything and talked up a storm about how great he was and how much he cared about the quality of his work, etc. etc. He kept trying to sell us on board and batten and we kept telling him we didn't like that style. He also made clear that he would be at least 12 weeks out on even receiving the materials for the job, and that it would likely be longer than that due to . . . whatever. He had plenty of excuses to let us know it would be several months before he could even begin the job. He also wanted 40% down which is excessive and I know why. He doesn't carry the funds to start jobs. He relies on down payments to finish up his current jobs and most likely will not be able to procure the materials for our job until he gets another down payment from some other schmuck. This is the reason for the long lead time on materials. Why is it that I can go to Home Depot and have the materials delivered in a matter of a few days or maybe even a few weeks - but 12 weeks minimum?? I don't think so.
At any rate, he told us he'd get back to us on the weekend (this was a Wednesday) with the estimate. We waited 2 weeks. Nothing. STRIKE THREE - YER OUT. I am going to guess that we'll probably hear from him once he gets wind of this review. Too bad. We gave the job to someone else. We contacted the new contractor on Saturday last week. They start tomorrow and will be through in three weeks. He did not want a down payment. read more
