First of all, awful & hidden location in Mahwah & totally empty office....after the fact made sense…read morewhy she probably doesn't have many patients..... I went to the doctor on June 23rd, 2014 because I had an awful sore throat for 5 days that just kept getting worse. I said to the doctor the last time my throat hurt this bad & my glands were this swollen, and I couldn't swallow I had strep. She checked my ears, my throat and my nose with a camera....all equally nonchalantly. I said I didn't have any congestion in my nose, it was all my throat and some ear pain. She did not want to give me an antibiotic and said "she thinks it's viral". However, she gave me an antibiotic (after some convincing) and said to use it only if it's not a little better tomorrow. I went through the rest of the day (June 23rd), was up all night & in the morning my throat was so bad that I was drooling all over and couldn't breath well so I immediately went to get the antibiotic on June 24th. 24 hours later on June 25th (after being on the antibiotic) I started feeling some relief. One week later and fortunately well again from the antibiotic that she wasn't even going to give me, I received my bill that the doctor apparently performed a "surgery" and I was due to pay an additional $80 not covered by insurance. I called the doctor office & tried to explain to the billing guy that I don't understand why I am being billed for this. I didn't agree to a surgery. The billing guy, was condescending, rude, and very unprofessional. He kept talking over me and was actually so ignorant to say "you chose your insurance"...well we all know that's not true, you get what you get. He was some how surprised that I had to hang up when he wouldn't let me speak and I wasn't going to get into a shouting war with him or listen to how he was talking to me?? I had to have my insurance company call to talk to him....they were disgusted at how they were spoken to also. Unfortunately, it's their job so they have to listen to it. From the conversation with the billing guy, I learned that the doctor can manhandle me and perform whatever she wanted and by me not saying anything I am consenting to this procedure. As mentioned above, sticking the camera up my nose was done as nonchalantly as checking my ears and throat that I didn't think I had a choice. The doctor did not warn me or discuss with me. Had a known a camera was going up my noise (uncomfortably) I would've rather had the lab test done for strep first & an antibiotic given second before I agreed to such an intrusive procedure. Initiating a procedure with out consent seems very shady and bad practice. Especially when a strep test was not even performed. I was going to the doctor for a sick visit so planned to pay my $50 co-payment and Cigna would be responsible for 100% so even if this procedure was performed, not a surgery. This procedure is not what I went to the doctor for. While I have no rights at the doctors office, I do have the right to spread the word to any future victims of this doctor. I have since spread the word to all of my local moms groups & was not surprised to hear that she has a bad reputation amongst other doctors and patients. One ENT mentioned that they take their reviews on Yelp seriously....Patient beware. Coincidentally, my son had the same thing I had....he went to the doctor a couple of days later. Guess what he had....strep. Guess what he paid....his copayment, that's it!!!
