I was not a fan of the cramped room, lack of hot water or the weak toilet flush. However, the only other hotel in town was booked and I appreciate what they're trying to do with the antique décor. This establishment is 420 friendly and I dont think the family across the hall knew that, so be aware before you stay here. You should also be aware that there are two buildings and only one room is on the first floor. There are no elevators, so you will have to use the outside stairs to access your room. I didn't care for lugging stuff up the stairs in the heat of the afternoon or in the cold of the morning. I did think the rooftop patio was a nice touch though. When you get to the top of the stairs, there is a code to enter the building which I think had 6 or so rooms. The code is given at check in. The hallway is pretty dark during the day. They have a selection of books and movies on a shelf you can help yourself to. The modern tv screens on the walls feel out of place with the antique décor, but I'm sure many people will appreciate it. I won't be returning, but I see how this could appeal to a lot of people. It's cute and it has its charm if you're in the right mood. I found it beyond annoying that we had no shelf space to put anything down. But my lines in the sand are typically related to strong water pressure and having enough towels. Considering the water never got warm in the morning and we were close to our destination, I finally just skipped the shower. I'm a laid back girl and I'll go camping with my husband and I'll hike if you make me, but I ain't taking a cold shower. Breakfast was a cute setup and they had coffee and tea available. The wooden tables were nice. If you do have breakfast there, selection is small- several options each of pastries, fruit, yogurt, cereal and oatmeal. The morning we were there the hot items were bacon, hash browns and eggs. However, the food was lukewarm and this was 5 minutes after breakfast had been put out. Nothing to knock them for, but you may want to go across the street for breakfast. The staff was friendly, I'm just not a fan of paying $118 to walk up a bunch of stairs to a cramped room without modern plumbing. To each their own.

Three times I emailed management on 9/30, 10/1 and 12/18 to express the complaint and concern with someone's dried blood on my pillows. I woke up with my mouth on a partially covered pillow that had dried blood on it, there is no way housekeeping could have missed all of the blood when they put a pillowcase over it. I try to avoid bad reviews, I would much prefer to reach out to the owners to make them aware of the problem so they have an opportunity to correct it. After months of emailing and leaving phone messages they never even responded. I even sent photos. I spent nearly $100 for a filthy rundown room only to have my sleeping mouth on a bloodstain. This threatens the health of their patrons and they don't have the decency to respond? Shameful!

Really enjoyed our time at the hotel, very unique built from an old turn of the century bank. The employees are super helpful and the morning cook was very nice, he made sure we had what we wanted.

Hotel Hell. Our family rented several rooms in this hotel. All the rooms as well as the common area were in need of a very deep cleaning. The dirt and grime in this place was as old as the antiques themselves. Especially dirty was room 15. It wreaked of black mold and dog urine. When we asked management for cleaning services we were handed a mop and broom and told that we should seek other lodging. The cleaning staff commented that this room was uncleanable. My aunt swept up a gob of dog hair from underneath the beds. We could not see ourselves in the bathroom mirror because it was very dirty as was the rest of the bathroom. There was no lightbulb in the lamp, the entry door was hard to lock, and we had to stand on top of a chair to turn off the fan. I was also concerned about fire escape issues. Management got upset when we asked for cleaning and complained that they were losing money because they had to feed us breakfast. I do not recommend this hotel.

Now owned and hosted by Sabra for the past 7 years, there are so many cute and strategically placed reminders of the movie and the series. From the (Indiana) Jones sign on the mailbox outside, to the Double Doors inside from the set, to the In Search of the Holy Grail cups carefully aligned on a shelf as you try to find the Carpenters cup, this place puts a smile on your face. Great breakfast, great conversation and customer service by both Sabra and Alex. Loved my stay and you will too!

She had lots of recommendations for the area. Upon arrival, she took us on a tour of the house and gave us a bit of the history. She has a folder that was given to get with some photos during the production of Last Crusade and news articles from the time. That was really interesting. The house is filled with movie memorabilia. The rooms are comfortable. They all have names, and my party for two rooms. I forget which I had, but it had a queen bed and a balcony. The other room we had was the king. Each room had s private bath. The website is easy to use. You pay on the sure, and during your stay, you'll have to pay the taxes. We paid those in cash, she doesn't retain credit card info. This is not a 5-star hotel; this is not a 5-star hotel within 100 miles. There are some more upscale places in Alamosa, Pagosa Springs, or even Taos. The Narrow Gauge Railroad Inn is a motel. A very old-school, side-of-the-highway motel. Like our parents used to stay in all the time. It is not a chain, it is family owned. I'm guessing that they make 95% of all of their income from May until September. The motel could use some upgrades, but if they are renting rooms for $50 to $60/night, upgrading anything about this motel will be a LONG term expenditure. But, I digress.... I was in town for two nights to ride the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railway. Departing out of Antonito is by far the nicest ride if you want to take pictures. And, this motel is next door to that station. Literally less than a 5 minute walk. So, score one for convenience. I really hate getting out of bed 3 hours before I do something touristy and then driving 2 hours each way to get there. So, maybe score two points for convenience. I had made the reservation via Expedia and they had messed up the reservation. The manager could not find my reservations and the motel was almost full. But, she jumped through hoops to accommodate us. She remembered my name and asked multiple times if everything was okay. At breakfast, she treated my group like we were old friends. The room needs some upgrades, for sure. The bed was marginally comfortable. But, the room and bathroom were basic and clean. I found the room to be fairly quiet. And, I saw nary a mosquito. They had lots of parking available and the other guests I ran in to were all friendly. I hope to be back in Antonito next spring and I will stay with Narrow Gauge Railroad Inn again.
