Three seniors. The menu did not have ribs and we asked about them to find that "specials" were tucked inside outta site in drink menu ( we don't drink). Food was average-at least hot. Biggest peeve was I had a $68 bill and gave waiter $100, and he just pocketed it and said " You all gave a good night". I asked for change -he seemed taken aback. I left a little over 20% cash tip -and waited for my change. He brings back $30 - not $32!! Come on. Use your phone to do math. I could have taken back some of the tip I had on the table, but didn't - so he got more than 20% I did advise him not to presume all customers would leave a $32 dollar tip on a 68$ bill. I think 20% is fair! We weren't a large group. I won't go back. Hope staff do better in future. read more

Pretty average, which isnt a bad thing but it didnt blow my socks off. We ate on the patio which was nice and the service was fairly fast and friendly. The burger actually looked fairly good. My jalapeño mac and cheese with bacon was alright. I heard it is a great place for afternoon beers but I didnt get a chance to try. I would be willing to go back and give that a chane! read more

Great little spot! I've been here a handful of times and am never disappointed with the food. The service is pretty good, sometimes there is a wait when they're busy. The staff is always friendly and and does a good job. They have live music occasionally but I haven't been to an event yet. read more

I just saw the low rating for this restaurant. So I thought I should weigh in. I was there a couple of weeks ago. My friend had the Chicken Parmigiana and I had the fish and chips. Also a couple of Caesars. Everything including the service was excellent. And it has been every other time I have been there, so I don't understand the low rating. read more

Service was terrible. There were 14 other people in the restaurant besides my family of 4. Waitress was more concerned serving the 3 guys at another table. I believe they were her friends. I ordered a steak sandwich with a mixed green salad. The salad doesn't list that it comes with nuts or dressing and naturally I ordered it with ranch dressing but it came dress as normal. I returned the salad hoping just for greens. It never came... At that same time I ordered a second beer. That never came either. The kids menu says that a there is a small salad on the side at no charge. They brought my 3 year old a full sized salad and then tried to charge for it along with the second beer I never received. Waitress excused this as her being new. Maybe her new job is a place to hang out with her friends. Either way, she won't last long. So I paid $22 for a steak slightly larger than a golf ball which was 6 bites. Never coming back and I'm disappointed because pre-COVID, this was the place we liked frequenting. read more

Stopped by this location to try their dessert offerings. Which didn't have a huge variety, the location seems more of a drinks oriented modern-urbanized bar than a restaurant. I was invited in and seated promptly. Personally, I couldn't stay long, had just clued up a 13 hr work day 1.5 hour drive back to town. With the only thing on my mind being cheesecake, and you know I had to satisfy my sugar craving of course. I approached the bartender and immediately got offered a drinks menu which is standard-bartending protocol; never leave a guest thirsty within a drink in hand at your establishment. I informed her that I wasn't staying and couldn't drink as I was driving and was only interested in dessert. She handed me the dessert menu, within seconds I placed my order for cheesecake, also asked to have the dessert prepped as a takeout. I was kept at the bar area for 25-30 minutes for something that should've been no longer than 10-15 minutes. I really didn't appreciate the long wait. It wasn't even busy to begin with at the bar area; with only 3 guests plus myself w/ drinks in hand and chatting with one another. Anyhow, I was fairly disappointed with my first experience at State & Main. I do plan to return however; and try some of their menu offerings to really get a feel of the restaurant, enjoy a good meal and perhaps update my review in the process. Late lunch with friend & my son, it was late afternoon, it wasn't too busy, there were two waitresses on the floor, service was a little slower than usual...she suggested wings to start which took a while to get to the table, lacked seasoning for salt & pepper wings, I think the cook forgot to the seasoning after he deep fried them, two of us had fish & chips nothing stellar there, son had the buffalo burger which we enjoyed, the real downfall was on the cocktails, double mojito was brutal & my friend's double rum was almost undrinkable, they need to improve bar-tending skills for afternoon customers, service was friendly but not over the top... read more

I had heard so many good things about the Calgary locations. I went here two nights in a row. The first night I ordered the Empire State with prawns. This was really good. The cinnamon buns I had for dessert were very dry for "sticky buns" and the icing very tasteless.They cooked my steak perfectly. I wasn't a fan of having to sit at the bar just because I was there solo, but it was dinner time and they didn't want me taking up a table, so I get it. Listening to a group of men haggle me for not drinking at the bar made me uncomfortable but the bartender was quite courteous. To avoid having to sit at the bar the next night I ordered the jalapeno mac and cheese with bacon and chorizo to go. When I unpacked it it was crammed into a plastic container and looked very unappealing. It was just ok, nothing special. It kind of reminded me of something served in a seniors home; mushy. It had no chorizo which sucks since I paid an extra $5 for it. I think I'll find somewhere else to go tonight.... EDIT: As good restaurants appear to be quite limited in GP, I went here a third night. My experience was much better than the previous two nights. It was far less busy on a Sunday night and my waitress was training a new staff member. They were both very polite. I got the fish tacos and fries with dill dip which was very good. Overpriced for the quality of food and the service is horrible. Ordered the most expensive thing on the menu, it was unedible. When I complained after just receiving it and not touching it, I was given 20% off. Lol I received the worste attitude from the female manager as well. Go somewhere else. read more
