Oh, and he's unbelievably attentive. If he knows you're going through a crisis, he'll actually call you sometimes. TLDR- it's fantastic…read more This is a long review... I have been to many therapists for trauma work but no practice has helped me the way Therapy for Women has. I broke up all the reasons I think Therapy for Women is amazing below. The values: This practice is based on mutual trust. You're therapist will happily share bits of their own life experiences. This always makes me feel less alone in what I am experiencing. Additionally, the open conversations make sessions comfortable/feel less like a doctors appointment. Therapy for Women also makes a point to let you know that you can switch therapists at anytime. Besides therapy won't be effective if you aren't comfortable with who you are talking too. In the office: The atmosphere is calming and quiet. Therapists have white noise machines at their door so your conversations will never be heard by someone passing by. If you are finding it hard to share something most therapists have art supplies, cards, fidget toys or board games that you are able to play during the session. The sessions are flexible and can be tailored to what you need. This is especially great for people like me with ADHD. The online portal: This might not be something many people think is important but the online portal is so simple. The rules, expectations, and prices for the practice are shared openly once you become a client so there is transparency. If you are ever confused about something or wondering about your last bill it is easy to look up past records and chat with your therapist directly. Price: Therapy for Women does not accept insurance (this is my understanding/ I'm not sure if there are specific exceptions). Sessions are relatively expensive since insurance doesn't cover the cost. However, Jen is a therapist I could stick with for years and I feel it is completely worth the extra cost. Over all: I really think this practice is something special and I am SO happy I found it when I did.

When I went, her prices were $180 for a 50-minute session and $270 for a 75-minute session. If she…read morehad provided excellent career counseling and I walked away prepared to find a job, those rates would be extraordinarily reasonable for guidance from a PhD Psychologist who specializes in career counseling and has 15-20 years of experience. However... The first appointment (75mins/$270) was an extended intake. I got absolutely nothing out of it. When I asked what her strategy was to help me find employment, she said, basically, it depends and that there are a lot of things she can help with. (Yeah, I never felt like I got a straight answer to that question.) Session 2 (50mins/$180): She retrod the same ground that had been covered in the intake session and we made no progress. I repeated my question about strategy and didn't get a good answer this time, either. Session 3 (50mins/$180): I brought her an old aptitude test/interest inventory I'd taken about a year previously, hoping she could provide some professional expertise as to what it recommended in more depth than I could understand myself. She didn't point out anything that wasn't obvious from first glance, then proceeded to read a several-page-long list of recommended jobs at me. (I had already read the list myself multiple times and found it unenlightening, which is why I was asking for her opinion.) Session 4 (50mins/$180): By sheer accident, the week before this appointment I found an interesting job opening on the other side of the country and shot the founder an email. He was impressed enough to schedule an interview with me before I even sent in a resume. The counselor didn't have much advice to help me with that, though we managed (finally) to clarify the types of businesses and industries I'd like to work with. Session 5 (50mins/$180): She'd done her homework and had Googled lists of cool businesses in cities I might be interested in. After spending at least 15 minutes tethering her laptop to her cell phone (because, as she told me, business internet is too expensive), and another five or ten minutes pulling up the email she sent herself about the companies she'd found, she then sat on the couch next to me and showed me business listings and company websites for the rest of the session--as if I was too stupid to use the internet on my own. (She has, for some reason, a massive aversion to communicating with clients by email. If she'd have just mailed me this list upfront, we could have avoided this entire meeting.) All that said, she seems like a nice lady, and if you need really basic career counseling services, I'm sure she could help you. But for $990 and zero results, I'm very skeptical of sending anyone else her way.
