For my daughter's second birthday, we looked for a Build-a-Bear to get her birthday bear, and this…read moremall is where we landed. We moved from the Richmond, VA area less than a year ago so we're still discovering all the places. My husband and I are GenX, so we are the Mall Rat generation - lost in a sea of the hot trend of "Town Centers", so we always check out malls to try to find ones that aren't on their last leg; filled with one-off trinket shops. We were in awe of this mall! It is full, it's big, it's lively, and it's got an awesome food court! It's like we stepped into a time warp and landed in the '90's; we felt like teenagers again! All the good stores are in here. The only thing I didn't see - and I may have just missed it - was a music store. I miss the old days of going and listening to new albums on headphones and talking to people as we dig through the CD racks. I got some of my best music recommendations that way. And with the resurgence of vinyl, that mall really would be a prime spot for a record store! If anyone ever decides to build a nursing home for us GenXers, just use this mall. All you have to do is take out the Southern Lion and put little rooms in there. You don't have to change anything else! 'Cause let's face it - we're not gonna go easy, so there better be a Spencer's and a Cinnabon wherever the youngin's put us.

While technology can be a wonderful it is also has casualties which is a shame for the current and…read morefuture children. I mean does any over 40 remember growing up to one of the best experiences of their childhood called a MALL? I do and sadly those days are slowly yielding way to Ecommerce, outdoor shopping centers designed for ease of access and speed, and new societal norms. Located in a safe area off of I-485 Carolina Place is a very nice place to take the family while shopping for all those modern needs or even for us older folks, a step back in memory lane. I mean gone are Radio Shack, Merry-Go-Round, Aladdin's Castle, KB Toys and Suncoast to name a few replaced by empty units or some places that have been able to maintain their leases like Belk (for those southern folks), Gamestop, Dicks and well you get the point. The main take away is I feel is the place is safe and has great natural light. I took my daughters and got their bathing suits at a place that will remain nameless one for $80 the other $60, but alas the discount brought both to $50 total. I'm ignorant of pricing at retail stores and how it works during the season but that was just weird to me. We wondered around, picked up some Auntie Anne's pretzel bites (our favorite) to nibble on while I took them to several stores which they loved including Hot Topic and Claire's. I really like the layout here, wide open. My favorite place to take my girls is the food court. We saw a huge line and while I hoped it was for multiple restaurants, nope I knew what it was for. Sarku had over 30 people in line while all the other stalls had one or two customers. All in all it took us roughly 20 mins to get our food. I'm curious what would happen if I dropped another Sarku in the food court? Anyways, they were SLOW but as always really good. So, when you're there I highly suggest Double Chicken Teriyaki w/ fried rice along with an extra scoop of sauce on the top. The chicken is nice and caramelized with a nice soy kick and fried rice, need I say more? All in all, I still cherish the mall and Carolina Place is holding up the tradition! While I wish all the units were filled, such as life these days. If you'd like to make a day of fun activities with the kids, I think you should consider stopping by, just make sure you hit the food court while doing your shopping!

Fantastic shopping center. All walkable. A ton of restaurants, bars, a swim school, a yoga studio,…read morespa, salons and so many more locations. Given the proximity to our home, we've been visiting here quite a few times. Aside from loving the easy location, I must mention that the best part of this strip is the lake and sitting areas located behind Spice Asian Kitchen, Napa and Taco Molino. The strip is impressive in size with a variety of restaurants...but honestly, it's not the most beautiful. All very brown, almost industrial...I'd say it's one of the most masculine looking shopping strips. The thing I don't like is how busy it is! By 5:45 pm, parking lots are packed...and the place is just a tad too busting at times...often with many kids. However, it has this near picturesque lake scene (complete with ducks, even a fake waterfall!) in the back that we really enjoy! If only there weren't office buildings behind that lake. :\ We usually get ice cream at Cold Stone Creamery after dining somewhere in this super-busy complex (So many restaurants here!), walk out to the lake, sit on one of their many comfy loungers and enjoy our dessert with a view. Makes for a relaxing time after any meal at this strip!

This shopping center and condo complex fits the definition of "mixed use" with a few Big Box stores…read moreand some restaurants and some offices and some living spaces (not sure if condos or apartments). I have been here a number of times, usually to hit up Trader Joe's but there's also a nice Best Buy (that does auto installations), Pisces all-you-can-eat sushi, Lost Worlds Brewing, and now 3rd & Fernwood which was my destination today (Yelp elite event!). There's bunches more of retail and restaurants. The tall parking deck worked well on a quiet midweek evening but during the holiday shopping season, it will be a real challenge. The deck is clean, well lit and I did see security on patrol. As always, be aware of your surroundings especially in or near the elevators and stairwells. I did not bring the Sprinter as there is a low height clearance. Two good access points from Kings Drive and Charlottetowne Avenue have traffic lights. Speaking of retail, we tend to visit Trader Joe's the most...but there are other big stores, like Marshall's and Best Buys. Now, there used to be some cool boutiques here, but I don't recall seeing them recently (possibly closed due to Covid?). Probably the coolest feature of this strip is this little alleyway with a great patio dining...with clear views to Uptown Charlotte. Recently, they've installed this fun Umbrella Alley" display...colorful umbrellas suspended in mid-air. Think it's a temporary exhibition? In any case, there's always something cool to do and see here at The Met...and despite the long drive from where we live, we tend to go here quite often. Guess it's worth it?

I recently visited this Nordstrom Rack location after moving to Charlotte, and overall, it was a…read moresolid experience. Nordstrom Rack has always been one of my favorite places to shop. I used to work at a full line Nordstrom years ago, so I know quality when I see it. That's why I love the Rack because you can always expect good brands at better prices than you'd find at the full line store. To some people, Nordstrom Rack still feels a little pricey for a discount store, but you really have to compare it to the original full line price tags. I live in the NoDa area, and I will say this location was a bit farther out than I expected, about 25 minutes from my house. I was honestly surprised that there isn't a Nordstrom Rack closer to the city. This one is more on the outskirts, which is fine, but it does make quick trips or exchanges a little less convenient. Yes, you can return items at the full line Nordstrom, but sometimes you just want to browse and see what's new. Parking here was easy, and the store itself was clean and well organized. Coming from Houston and then Florida, I wasn't used to seeing so many coats in stock, so that actually caught my attention. They had a big winter selection, and I ended up leaving with a super cute trench coat, a puffer jacket, and a couple of other cold weather pieces since I know Charlotte winters are going to be colder. The staff was about as friendly as you'd expect at a Nordstrom Rack, but they moved quickly, and the checkout line wasn't long. Overall, this location was consistent with the other Nordstrom Racks I've been to. No surprises, just the usual dependable Rack experience. I'd definitely return.

She asked me about opening a store credit card and I told her no thank you. Her demeanor changed, lol! I mean I'm sorry that I don't shop here often enough but also store credit cards are too limiting! But anywho...nice experience here and I would return.
