First of all its pronounced- La hunnah, second- this may be the best bar in the Arkansas Valley…read more(well lets not get crazy, but its the best place to get a drink in La Hunta when your train stop smoke break has been extended from 15 to 45 minutes. La Junta is a helluva town- amongst brisk berms of high plains one can find an Oasis of sorts- one that for some reason or another necessitates a 45 minute smoke stop (aka walking self tour in every direction, usually commencing with a sprint to the train- not because that we are afraid to miss it, but rather due to the horrid nausea brought on from thoughts of spending more than 45 minutes here. But, I took a walk- left, right- ok downtown has been surveyed in approximately 10 minutes- its 7:13 on a Tuesday night and 1 restaurant is open downtown, no bars and a gleaming pizza hut rectangular sign beckoning us from afar, more like 6 blocks- nonetheless, its food and after a heated debate on how the dining car would prepare tonight's special (4 cheese lasagna), we opted for the hut. After a phonecall and a 15 minute guarantee- we set off- but not 5 steps were taken before aha! BJ's Sports Bar-Her lights shone down upon the deeply trodden path leading the afterworkers from the La Junta Mill & Elevator Co into her quaters like the crazy diamond she is. So we pop in- greeted as a POlak-Italian and a Greek-Portuguese should be in southwestern Colorado (Que pasa, amigos- but a sincere greeting, like we should return with a nada or bueno). Caught the last 4 minutes of the Nuggets game on lessthanHD Tv's and off to Lamar!

Definitely my favorite bar in La Junta... only thing missing is a kitchen. However, Lucy's is…read moreright around the corner. They have darts, touch screen, karoke and pool... oh, and plenty of HDTVs to watch some sports. Carlos is the best bartender in a 100 mile radius and the rest of the staff is super friendly! Can't wait to get back to BJs for some beers and good times!
