Fantastic movie theatre. Sofas for seats. Small and intimate. Don't get there late, you won't be able to sit together.

I love this place. It's cozy, comfy and the food is delicious and I get to eat on a sofa while watching a movie

Whether you are visiting Port Townsend or call it home, the Starlight room is loved by all and a must do when in PT. Yes, it's a hike to get up all those stairs (don't worry, there is an elevator), but it is well worth it to sit on the cozy couches, sip on some wine, and munch on a bowl of popcorn, just like at home, but with the audio/visual effects of the theater. I also love how the Rose theater has personal introductions for each movie, and the prices are still far cheaper than the big movie chains. The reason for four stars over 5, is that the choices don't seem to be as robust in terms of food and drink, as they used to be. I seem to remember actual meals and cocktails available from the Silver water cafe when the Starlight first opened, but now there are only the same snacks that are available in the main theater, and only beer/wine. They also didn't have any ice cream as they usually do. read more

I had been to the Starlight Room when it had an association with the restaurant downstairs, and it was a much nicer experience being able to order from a full bar and have hot, delicious food to enjoy during the movie. Yesterday I paid $11 for the tiniest pour of wine I have ever received in an establishment (abt 4 ounces), only prepackaged salami and cheese were available, but worst by far was the movie volume, which at times topped 90 decibels -- my Apple Watch kept alerting me--- far too loud and at times painful. Really, really loud. It's a shame that such a nice venue has become so mismanaged. I would have walked out for the noise alone if I hadn't been there with a guest. I won't return. read more

This theater is really special. They usually pick the better movies and live broadcasts (like opera from the NY Met). There's a restaurant next door that's one of the better restaurants in the area. However one of the theater rooms serves food, beer, wine, and specialty cocktails. It's all really good and the chairs are really comfy (and they provide blankets). The people who work there are all really nice and what the love of movies. They usually introduce the movie with some special insight or trivia which makes the experience that much better. Note: even though I have this a 5 star review, there's a caveat here. The projection and sound systems aren't the best quality state of the art technology . It's not XD or IMAX, but the movies they show aren't the ones better suited for those theaters. read more

You have a hankering for a tasty personal pizza. With a glass of a fine merlot or perhaps super-special sparkling lavender water. You have a hankering for a current movie, pre-selected perhaps by Rocky. Maybe one showing even now at the Rose or the Rosebud on Taylor Street. (Rocky knows his audience, Rocky know his films.") You want to check out Uptown, Downtown, the Taylor street stairs. Galatea in her fountain. You want to check out the town of Port Townsend. With a convenient "throw" placed within easy reach, a table and "movie-star" themed "flag" nearby to signal the tiptoeing waiter when your order is ready. ("Paul Newman" has aways been there for us but other selections include Ingmar Bergman, Marilyn Monroe...) Wow. What an awesome experience! Seeing a dinner at the Starlight Room is worth the drive wherever you're coming from. The Rose Theater and the Silverwater Cafe teamed up to offer a charming theater and dining experience. It's just excellent. Tips: -Arrive 30 minutes before showtime to stake out a good seat. -If it makes sense, order a full bottle of wine to split rather than by the glass. Much more economical this way. If there are 2 of you this is 2 healthy glasses each which is totally doable. :) They have several bottles available for purchase starting at $18/bottle. -Don't miss the popcorn. This is the same beloved popcorn from the Rose with real butter. We had the crab stuffed mushrooms (6 caps for $12 and they have lots of crab). You can order at the counter and they bring your food out to you. They are not taking orders and delivering food during the movie which is a good thing in my opinion. Overall, I really enjoyed my time here. I can't wait to come back! I prefer this experience to some similar theaters on the Seattle side. I think they're doing everything right here! read more

My husband and I travel to Port Townsend 2-3 times a year. It was our first time at the Starlight Lounge, and we will definitely be coming back. It's a great venue on the top floor, with the Silverwater Cafe on the ground level. You take an elevator up and it brings you right out into a small area where you check into the theater. There is a small are to order food and drinks. The theater is a beautiful room that seats up to 46 people, with various chairs, couches and table to sit at. There is a beautiful view of Admiralty Inlet. Before the movie starts the green velvet curtains are closed and the room is dimly lit with chandeliers. An employee gives a brief presentation of the movie. The large sized popcorn with real butter came in a nice wooded bowl. If you order food, they will give you a movie stars name that is called out when your order is ready! I would highly recommend this venue. read more

Really great place! the best theater I've ever been to. I love the antique couches, the tables so you can eat at your couch and the food and drink. Next time I'm going to arrive earlier to order food and have more to eat there. They have really great movies which seem even better because of the really nice ambiance of the theater. You can buy your tickets online (recommended). The show we wanted to see was sold out, so we bought tickets for the same show two days later and were able to get in. There isn't a lot of seating, so I imagine this much be a constant problem, so I'd recommend getting your tickets ahead of time. Arrive early to order food. Really fun experience. read more

The Rose Theatre & the Silverwater Cafe have partnered together to form the Starlight Room--a third theater venue for The Rose that provides a movie-going experience along with appetizer menu items & adult beverages provided by the restaurant. The setting is lovely on the upper floor of the Silverwater accessible by elevator or a steep stairclimb. At the top of the stairs to the right, you enter a small lobby with an upscale concession area where you may order food and beverages, including wine, cocktails. (Because alcohol is served, no one under age 21 is allowed to attend films in this third location.) The staff will provide your drinks there, take your name, and bring the appies to your seat when they are ready. As you continue through the curtained entryway to the theater itself, the room is furnished with old-fashioned upholstered couches & chairs with small tables for food & drink. There are large crystal chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, drape-lined walls, & tall windows where you can view Port Townsend's downtown area. When the movie is about to begin, the drapes close over the walls and windows and a screen drops down. A theater staff person does the usual Rose Theatre introduction of the movie and tells "insider" background tidbits about how it came to be, the director, writer, actors, etc. The room is very cozy and mostly comfortable (my companion's chair was a little lumpy!). A staff person brought our food to us. We each had a glass of wine, and we shared small plates of five crab-stuffed mushrooms and of four caprese skewers, and an espresso nanaimo bar. All was delish, but pricey--those items were just over $40...which I guess isn't bad since we had the wine. I guess because it's a movie, there is a pyschological thing going on that it shouldn't be that much. But it's more than a movie. It's a fun and quite lovely experience. We recommend that the staff person bring napkins with the food as we had to go back to the concession area to get them. We also could have used utensils as, even though the items we ordered were finger foods (sort of), they really weren't--they were a little messy. We also recommend that when ordering, the staff advise customers that once the movie starts, there is no more food service. We weren't sure how large the portions would be and since there wasn't a lot to them, we were still hungry when they were gone (we were there at the dinner hour), and assumed we could re-order; but of course, that would be too disruptive to the movie-viewing experience if too many did that. If there were signs advising of this, we missed them. We also recommend that, with items such as the stuffed mushrooms, they serve an even number since most people are there in twos, so each person gets an equal amount. :) Overall, it was a unique experience and a nice addition for Port Townsend's movie-going community. read more

Love this theater and that they keep the history alive to continue showing films here. They generally show independent films. All kinds of goodies and popcorn to grab before you head in. My boyfriend and I were in Pt. Townsend for a night, thought we'd see a movie. I suppose it doesn't matter what we saw, but the style, comfort, intellectual introduction to the movie, view, organization, food, and drinks were all excellent. My mixed drink was over $10, which is often frustrating, but it was one of the better ones I have had in a month or two, so that's ok. All and all, a wonderful surprise evening. read more

So much fun to sit on a couch enjoy a movie and drink a glass of wine. It was slow to get the food ordered but the two men that seemed to be in charge did everything they could to make our experience enjoyable . The theater was a large ballroom and the screen was lowered from the ceiling. Wonderful evening for us. The movie the food the wine. I have been to the Starlight room in two occasions. Both times an older grumpy guy on the front row was angry about something. Seemed rude to me and his companion was embarrassed. I am not sure it was the same man both times but I believe it was. However I must say I had the best time. We ate dinner there and had wine and popcorn. Popcorn in bowls like we were at home. Popcorn was delicious also. The men that seemed to be in charge were floating around the room and made sure we had everything we needed. I enjoyed how attentive they were to their customers. Service like this is needed elsewhere. Thank you for a couple of nights to remember. read more
