Just attended an impressive production of "It's A Wonderful Life" performed in the style of a radio…read moreshow, with actors playing multiple roles and a small team supporting them with expert organ music and sound effects. This created a performance-within-a-performance that was unique and fun for all. The actors were especially high quality, with my favorite being the radio show announcer, who himself performed several parts with crisp and distinctive voices. The theater itself is small and inviting, with a lounge offering light refreshments and wine before and between acts. Actors entered the crowd before and after the show to welcome people and thank them for coming, which I found especially charming and heartfelt. We recently moved to the area and will enjoy visiting them again.

If you do then do yourself a favor and check out the Olympic Music Festival. I truly *heart* this musical getaway. I've driven past the signs to the Olympic Music Festival many times in the past on my way to Hood Canal and we've finally stopped by. My regret is that we didn't do this sooner. This is such a wonderful activity to do in the summer time. Pack a picnic, a bottle of wine, some carrots (for the donkeys) and head over to Hood Canal. The experience of listening to beautiful music in the shades of the apple trees surrounded by mountains and open air...HEAVENLY (and I'm not even exaggerating). Beethoven sounded even better when I'm breathing in fresh country air and gazing up at blue sky and mountains...seriously! If I could write poetry, this place would surely be an inspiration. GO! I know there's some kind of feud going on between the flower factions of this-and-that but it didn't stop me from going. There's not a whole amount of information out there about the Lavender Festival so I had to do some digging before I went (mainly via Youtube) but I was pretty amazed at the collaboration and effort that goes into making this festival a reality. This is a large-scale operation that involves not only the main town but the outskirts as well: The main festival is located in downtown in Sequim. Parking is tight as the other reviewers have mentioned but I pulled into the heart of it and paid a $10 fee in a private dirt lot. When you are limited on time, you just gotta pay. It was very hot and I wasn't sure if I'd be buying a lot of things and didn't want to lug them down several blocks, so I paid for the convenience, which I didn't mind. There are a lot of vendors: food, drink, rocks, lavender stuff, flea market junk, hippie new-age stuff, crystals, plants, clothing, etc. It's like your typical farm fair. FOOD: I was really hoping to try a bunch of exotic lavender-flavored items since I've read about their lavender flavored shrimp in year's past but all I encountered were some lavender cocktails (delish) and lavender ice cream from Olympic Mountain (blew my socks off). As far as real food was concerned, it was a wash. I ordered a veggie plate from a local "Thai" vendor and it was terrible. Seating was very limited in the shade around the food stations. There was a lot of seating in and around the booze tent but it was under the hot sun, no thanks. The kid and I ended up sitting on a bunch of hay bales under a tree eating our ice cream. The kid had to wait outside of the tent while I sucked down my French Connection ($8). Toilets were porta potties scattered about the premises. The other half of the festival is on the outskirts of Sequim and some of it overlapping into Port Angeles in the various lavender farms that participate during the festival. I found out which farms were free by snagging a free periodical left in the hotel lobby and decided to visit them during the festival. Due to limited time, I couldn't visit all the festivals I had desired, so I stopped at strategic ones along the way (they deserve their own ratings). No matter if you are visiting the farms or the festival downtown itself, be sure to slather on the sun screen, take a bunch of cash, water, wet wipes and plan on meeting at common spot if anyone gets lost. I'll be coming back that's for sure. Despite whatever is going on between the War of the Lavenders, I'm grateful that this festival lives on and I am hoping it won't go away any time soon. I can imagine this festival means a lot to the economy of Sequim and its surrounding towns and I'd hate to see it dissolve due to disagreements on how it should be run. Long Live Lavender!!

Lavender farms around the area are open for tours (some require an entrance fee) and sells bundles of freshly cut lavenders and other novelty items. Each farm is different and the uniqueness definitely adds to the character of each location. Make sure to grab a Lavender Festival guide map for a detailed list of farms around the area. The Street Fair is located in downtown Sequim on Fir street. Parking can be tricky and I suggest early attendance to secure a reasonable spot. Admission is free and the fair does allow dogs on the premises. Food options are decent and the live entertainment is a nice touch. Here are the farms we visited in our quest to see the lavenders: Graysmarsh - Cash only. Options of lavender and raspberry picking. Pets not allowed. Abundance in parking however no gift shop. Fat Cat Farm - Diverse gift shop and very friendly service. Only $5.00 for u-pick lavenders and the farm grounds are simply picturesque. Dogs are allowed however mind the free roaming chickens. Cards accepted and minimum of $10 purchase. Lavender connection - Smaller gift shop however they offer a "create your own scent." There are some seating areas for tired travelers. The owners were very ice and personable. Oliver's Lavender Farm- Not as much of a crowd compared to other farms. Small gift shop located in the back of the main house and offers a good selection of various lavender products. Martha's Lane - Ice cream shop features lavender flavors. I tried the white chocolate raspberry lavender ice cream. The texture was simply amazing and the taste was a perfect marriage of raspberries, sweetness, and lavender. They also offer various types of lavenders and each row is labeled for convenience. No pets allowed as this farm is organic certified. They have a fantastic gift shop with an abundance of lavender themed items. Beware as this shop can inspire sudden gift giving. Victor's Farm - Parking was full and the farm is very popular. There were more items in the gift shop and visitors can view the process of drying out the bunches of lavenders. Make sure to walk around to the back of the farm. Live music, lavender lemonade, and seating areas makes this a wonderful pit stop. The lavender festival is a good tourist/weekend activity for all ages. Excellent community and the staff from all of the farms were helpful and pleasant.

The museum was farther out of town than expected, about a ten-minute drive south. We arrived around 10 am and found only three other cars in the parking lot. Our first impression was the museum's modern exterior. Inside was just as impressive. In the lobby, we each paid our $12 admission fee before heading in to see the three dozen or more general aviation aircraft on display. Most aircraft were parked on the floor, while another ten or so hung from the high ceiling. The parked aircraft each had a cookie sheet under the engine to catch oil drips. This makes sense, as they do fly all the aircraft on display that they legally can. After seeing the aircraft and checking out some interesting old photographs, we stopped at their bookstore of old used aviation books. I couldn't resist buying one about the 747. We were through the museum and back on the road in about an hour. We enjoyed the visit and will visit again, perhaps timed to a special event taking place there.

Sighhhhhhh...the summer was short, my family was heading home, and it never happened. But.... Had I lived in Port Townsend, WA as a child, it could have. Indeed, it would have. I'd be flying the friendly skies of PT now, even as we speak. But, of course, I might not have time to do this review... www.ptaeromuseum.com I visited the Port Townsend Aero Museum three days days ago. T'was a bright spring day and I was loathe to go inside knowing that the three day forecast was for snow, snow, snow. Chipper Yelper that I am, I went inside the museum anyhoo, leaving the balmy outdoor weather to a small (teenaged) work crew landscaping the front of the building. If the kids were hard at work making the place beautiful for visitors, who was I not to reward their efforts? A small admission fee got me inside the new building. Airplane models hung from the rafters, beautifully restored planes had "landed" strategically about the floors. Placards described each plane and its role in history. Several planes (as noted on the placards) were currently in use as training craft for the young pilots who learn to fly at the museum. My entrance fee (donations from other visitors) is what keeps the fly lessons and the museum going. So I lingered for an hour or so, looking at airplane models, antique cars and some wonderful old flight helmets and gauges. I walked the catwalk around the inside of the tall building, looked at aviation paintings, watched other visitors as they entered the spacious hangar. DIdn't even notice that I was inside on a balmy day. I do have a suggestion or two for future museum exhibits: I'd have liked to have seen a motor, perhaps with its schematic nearby. I would have enjoyed brief "instructions" on the aerodyamics of flight. A checklist of preparations for lift-off and landing would have been fun to look at. (I am told that these are readily available through airplane manufacturers...so a generic list shouldn't be hard for the museum to find. ) There once was a wonderful old hand-lettered sign visible as you exited Jefferson International Airport, which is where the museum is located. It said "Don't forget to close your flight book." Perhaps an actual flight book would make interesting reading. Certainly the visitors' comment book does reflect the numbers of geographically distant folks who tour the museum but no space is included in it for visitors comments. This would be nice. But heck. Who am I to tinker with the success of this endeavor? This is a cool museum. Kids involved in its programs really *do* get the flight bug and occasionally do solo before they get their Washington State driver's license. And as for me? Well, I had a good time. Hopped into my ancient Saturn which was parked in the parking lot. Waved at the kids working on the landscaping. Scanned my gas gauge, speedometer and clock...and said to myself as I exited into the sunny Port Townsend afternoon... What if?? The road not taken. Or rather the runway not taken. Yet.

The track is small and the go-karts don't go super fast, but it's a fun place to play, especially with your family members as competition. Mine has been going here for years, as part of our annual Whidbey Island weekend reunions. The last time we visited, there was a private birthday party going on, but they let us use the track anyway. You pay inside the concessions building, and pay by 5 minute increments. I have fond memories of coming here even when my mom was terminally ill. She had to give up her seat in the karts back then because of her health, but we parked her car facing the track, so she could wave at us as we passed by. She was known for flashing the metal sign, too. Like mother like daughter. I'll be honest, I'd rather partron a go-kart track than do almost anything else. It always brings out the kid in me.
