Similarly priced to American artisans, and that is to suggest most items topping 3€ each, it was largely with a focus on novelties as well as recommendations before personal favorites that the order progressed, a total bill of 20€ yielding seven items which were boxed and bagged as we discussed dining back across the Atlantic, suggestions for local spots offered and appreciated despite a dining agenda that was already jammed packed. Taking items to a small park in order to enjoy, parking no doubt a hot commodity before meters engaged at 9:00, it was with little hesitation that first bites were taken of each warm donut and although the yeasty brioche-style base was absolutely immaculate, all but the dark chocolate frosting featured an 'off' mouthfeel that came off almost waxy, the sweetness nowhere near that of versions served stateside and not at all on par with Donuts Factory, a place to be visited later on the eating tour of Lyon. Moving on to the "don't call it a cupcake - cupcakes are frosted" muffin, suffice it to say that French cocoa studded with Valrhona's dark chocolate chips is likely to upgrade anything being done with food coloring and Hershey's throughout most of the American South, and although a dollop of cream cheese frosting may have upped the ante a bit it really wasn't needed in the setting of such high quality ingredients, the same to be said of a crispy-rimmed chocolate chip cookie dense with nuts amidst a soft center and the best-of-the-morning "Nymy" that featured a puddle of ganache amidst a cocoa base with streaks of caramel, toffee, and hazelnuts making each bite a new experience waiting to be found.

We arrived for the late afternoon lunch and ordered the trout, granola, hummus, and 3 pastries that our waiter chose for us. The flavors were so bright and complimented each other perfectly. I loved the honey, pepitas, and chia seed in the granola yogurt bowl. The pastries were a chocolate and peanut butter cookie, apple turnover, and an almond/orange brioche. Each one of them was perfect. The hummus officially ruined all other hummus for me. Nothing will ever be as fresh. Don't skip this place when you're in Lyon!

Le Kitchen Cafe is a gem! Very cute restaurant with wonderful people and service…read more Came for breakfast and left delighted. The soy marinated egg and trout is fantastic. You'd want more soy marinated eggs if it was possible to order them individually! The granola with fresh yogurt, fruit and honey was delectable. I wanted more it was so good. The coffees were perfect as we had some hit and miss during our stay overall in finding high quality, robust, coffee (which was not espresso). The hot chocolate is the real deal, rich chocolate that you add hot milk to to reduce the thick, creamy richness of it. So good. order it! I think they are known for their pastries so order a few brioche, rolls, etc. I wish I knew the french word for the roll we had as that was one of the best we've ever had.. sweet, but not too sweet, soft/airy, buttery with the outside having a nice crispy (flakey) texture. So good. Very affordable too. Wish we found this place earlier during the visit as I would have liked to come back a few times.

2.5 stars, if I can. Another yelp disappointment. This was very close to my hotel (ibis les…read morehalles), and I went there with a few friends. Three of them ordered the beef tartar (I think it was the menu of the day) with fries and salad. Another friend ordered a set menu with a strange salad with small shrimps and chicken with couscous. Another had a stir fried noodle with shrimps. I had the cafe gourmand (6.5 Euro). 2 of my friends seemed to enjoy their tartar ok. I had a taste of it, and it was not impressive. Also the beef seemed a little too chewy. One of them didn't like it and left half of it. The friend who got salad (some kind of wheat berry in a dome shape) and chicken was very disappointed as the chicken was very dry and tough/ salad was weird. The one who got the noodle was the happiest. My cafe gourmand was also disappointing -usually this comes with 4 kinds of different desserts (Madeleine, tiramisu, Creme brûlée, mousse, etc.) But this one had 4 kinds of different mousses. Creme brûlée, what seemed to be vanilla based mousse+raspberry jam on top, what seems to be vanilla& chocolate mousse, and something in the mousse shape but with no distinctive flavor. Only the Creme brûlée was good. Also the espresso that came with it was very watery weak& not good. (My hotel serves better espresso!) In the Yelp review and description, it appears as a good place for coffee. It is certainly not! My stars are for the cute and clean inside atmosphere and the pleasant server. Also the portions were generous.
