Well, I really like to get the Star Tribune for local news, sports and national news. i have been a subscriber for over 35 years, if that tells you something! But, now, sadly, we cannot get the paper delivered to our box on a daily basis. Some days, we can get it in the evening, other days, never. They say we get "CREDITS". How can we be sure that is the case? But, it isn't the credits I want, it is the newspaper. If you can't deliver, and we don't live in an area that is inaccessible and without other subscribers on our street, what is the REAL problem? I understand that wages might keep people from wanting to take delivery jobs, but, it is your responsibility as a business to keep the customer happy and deliver the product. Do what you NEED to do to get this fixed. Bad business if you can't deliver the product that the customer has ordered and paid for for almost 4 decades! read more

This rating should actually be a NEGATIVE 5 STARS tried to make a credit card payment for $17.53, my card was charged $1753.00...when obvious error was reported, no apology or explanation for fraud. supposed solution offered (rather than crediting my card for this overcharge) was to maybe send me a refund check at some unknown time in the future...one hell of a way to run a business. a simple review of their payment accounting practice would have easily caught this blatant error before it could occur. read more

If I could give a lower rating I would. Delivery service the worst I have ever experienced with the paper seldom being delivered before I leave for work. Trying to navigate their website to place a vacation hold is impossible with links to this service not being found. I have had to call circulation to set a hold and even then it has been screwed up. If it were not for the fact that my wife wanted the printed news paper, I would have canceled years ago. I get better service and better reporting from the NYT and WSJ. read more

I can't even select one star (it makes you, but I don't want to give them even a 1/2 star). I was supposed to start getting a paper on April 9 at my new house in West Lakeland. I've NEVER received one single paper. I've called in 10 times and they say the exact same thing, "we'll look into it and get it resolved." I've asked to speak to a manager and they won't let me. They are "programmed" to say the same things over and over and read from a script. However, they can't turn my subscription bills off. I keep getting them as overdue and they call me asking me where my payment is. Seriously? Not one single paper. They can't start delivery, but can't stop the billing. I see my review is pretty consistent with others. Sounds like this could be class action since many others have been spammed, scammed and slammed. The incompetency of the Strib's delivery service is stunning. We used to have a SPECTACULAR delivery person, Conroy. Conroy requested some time off for a death in the family. Conroy was fired. The person we've gotten as a replacement is beyond horrible. I'm complaining to the paper at least twice a week about some problem. Yes, I know I can read online (which I do on those days where the paper doesn't show up), but I do like a crunchy paper in the morning whilst sipping my coffee. I agree with many of the other commenters. I liked the paper, but the customer service is truly some of the worst I have encountered in my life. I have been double-charged, cut off on lengthy phone calls, talked down to and interrupted, and the overcharge problem remains unresolved. Impossible to get a paper delivered. Got a promo in the mail for Sunday delivery for a year for $80. After 3 months I've managed to get 1 paper. I've called nearly every week, that hasn't worked. I've emailed their subscription support. Just a form letter response that didn't help. I emailed the delivery manager for my neighborhood, no response. I have been getting this paper for 50 years. Unfortunately I had to cancel my subscription. Delivery is non existent. I have to call every weekend to tell them I didn't get the paper. What - a - joke. I bought a 1-year subscription of the Star Tribune's Sunday paper and started receiving it for several weeks up until Thanksgiving when it abruptly stopped showing up. This started a cycle of me calling in and asking for re-delivery, which would not show up and then me calling in on Monday requesting credit for not receiving a paper at all. Forward a few weeks into January and many phone calls and promises to "fix the problem" and I still haven't received a single paper since Thanksgiving. I've wasted several hours on the phone with these clowns and I'm beyond frustrated. Each week they seem perplexed why I'm not satisfied that it will just be magically fixed this coming week...trust us... Well I'm sure my experience is a rare outlier and most people get their paper delivered with routine excellence. I did think the ST's supreme failure on me should be recorded however. read more

Yet I get a bill from a collections agency demanding 86 bucks from without any notice from star tribune themselves. Have called them multiple times asking to fix it and best they can do is have me pay half. I've now been on hold for 45 minutes! Luckily I have nothing better to do with my life because I can't afford to pay for a paper I have never received. Do not sign up or give them your address unless you want zero transparency with payments and horrible customer service. My family has given the Strib over 100 years of service and they can't even get a paper delivered. Calling does no good at all. I am repeatedly told they will expedite a delivery.... No paper shows up. I have asked for call backs on 3 different occasions and never received one. I am told the delivery people are contracted. Perhaps there needs to be some consequences for those who don't fulfill the terms of their contract. Crediting the account doesn't help. My parents are handicapped and not able to run to the store for a paper. Seems like each time we call, it gets worse. If there was a minus rating that's what they would get. read more

I am a digital subscriber. Every day there are pieces of the paper that will not load correctly, and can not be scrolled or read in entirety. And let's not even get me started on the mis-spellings. And then there are the frequent articles that run together so you read two pieces at once but out of sync. Oh well I guess this is the best they can do with their digital delivery. I give 3 stars for quality and service. If there were and option of 0 stars that would be given to the subscription department. My husband has had the paper for over 2 years. Our initial subscription was $70. I was billed another $70, and at renewal for the next 26 weeks, it was $120. And for the next 26 weeks $120. We are on automatic payments and never received ANY reminders or notifications about renewals. I new that the next 26 week renewal was coming up but I didn't know when. Well I found out the hard way when a letter from the bank came notifying us of an overdraft. The new subscription rate . $385! Regular price for a 26 week subscription. I almost had a stroke....not because of the price but because we weren't given ANY KIND OF NOTICE! I immediately cancelled the subscription and was told that the refund would appear in the bank account within 7-10 business days. Today was day 10....still no refund. I called to see where things were at was told there was a glitch in the system. It would be ANOTHER 7-10 days to receive the refund. Sorry this review is so long but I hope it helps someone avoid this same thing. In the meantime they have created total chaos with our bank account and I don't know how we're going to make it to the end of the month. Power of prayer works!! read more

Have reported an issue with delivery not being near the front porch for my elderly handicapped mother at least 12 times. Connected customer service last week and received a message back from June that she has reached out to the manager and the delivery driver and it has been address. So today 8/6/22, it is not near the porch but at the end of the driveway that is 700+ feet away. Total retaliation and discrimination of handicapped elderly. With the rain this morning, it was soaking wet and totally unreadable. I just can't believe that a company that said that they value their subscribers, would be treated this way. read more

I would rate 0 stars if possible. I purchased it using a Groupon, then couldn't access my account online at all. Today, I got a letter from a bill collector saying that I owe for the subscription that I never renewed, they continued in hopes at getting me to renew it, however, I called them a few times about not getting access to my account and not wanting to renew the subscription, as I didn't find it worth the cost, especially for their non-sale price. Tip for Star Tribune, if people don't renew, don't keep sending them subscriptions then send the bill to collections. Especially when you don't communicate to the customer. If I didn't want to renew, I shouldn't have to do anything on my end, if I don't pay, I don't get the paper, however, this is an extremely shady business practice, as they are trying to keep the paper alive... read more

I hope people don't actually believe most of the biased articles in this newspaper and I certainly hope I don't ever receive another one. This used to be a great newspaper when it was owned by the Cowles family. Since they sold it it has consistently gone downhill. I guess that's the way of modern media. I don't know what else to do besides leave ANOTHER review. I have complained countless times about the late delivery, late by an hour or more, but nothing seems to change. It wasn't always like this but our current carrier is simply late/slow and they are not doing anything substantial to change this. Being a carrier must be the worst job because they can't get replacements and we customers have to put up with whoever they get! Home delivery does not work. Instead of placing the paper in our box, the delivery person just keeps driving, whipping the paper out the window, usually in a ditch by the road. Submitting comments requires careful diplomacy, as tons of un-pc words are prohibited. What you read is sanitized and conforming with the paper's expectations only. Others are warned of being denied access for commenting if they fail to change. Sort of scary! BTW -- I mostly read the NYT...I'm biased favoring a much more sophisticated paper. read more

Wish I could give this company zero stars. We had problems to start with and took well over a month to even get the paper started. By summertime I noticed my wife was no longer interested in this paper and I was basically throwing it away every week so I called to cancel. They told me that it has to go out to the end of the contract anyway. So, I was like whatever and then I didn't notice until it was too late, they just kept it going and then charged me. So calling in to cancel during the summer didn't even exist in their system. Then they tell me how much of a discount they took off in the first contract. Who cares, to be honest when they used to offer the $1 a year Sunday paper I felt like I was overpaying. Excited, I walked to the mailbox this Sunday morning and to my (not) surprise, it was not there. In an industry that should be thankful for a new subscriber, they sure did not appreciate me. What a terribly run company. I support the Trib because I want to stay informed and support a local company, but I think I have had it. I got a phone call from a telemarketer 2 weeks ago asking if I wanted to increase my subscription. I said no to her 3 times. Finally I just hung up on her because she kept thinking she was going to seal the deal if she just kept talking. Nope. Then I look at my bills the other day and noticed that I was charged extra on my Star Tribune account and not only that but signed me up for a higher rate than what I was previously getting. That lady had signed me up for the same subscription I told her no to 3 freaking times! What's worse is that I called their customer service and then had to argue with a lady that 52 weeks was not half a year but a full year (are you kidding me???). How do they continue to exist with such crappy service. Hey management, get off your asses and fix this terrible company, ITS YOUR JOB! And they will not communicate with you to tell you they're doing this, except by sending you to a collection agency later. I grew up in NW Iowa and considered the separately published Star (Morning) and Tribune (Afternoon) to be my Big City newspapers. And with apologies to the Des Moines Register, which I cherish for other reasons. When I'm in town like I was recently, I still make it a point to pick up a copy or if I'm at the Minnesota State Fair, I stop by their booth. Other Yelp reviews for the Star Tribune pretty much portray a newspaper and its associated industry in decline. This publication is not alone, and so much so that the NY Times or WS Journal are really the only ones left that do significantly better than limited local stories and wire service feeds. And since Gayle used to be a reporter and a newspaper editor, I see all that from a unique and sad perspective, especially regarding the journalism profession. However, for my seasonal need for local news and a general sense for what is going on in the Twin Cites, the Star Tribune fully meets my limited expectations. read more

Missed deliveries are frequent or we have to go on a search and rescue mission through the front yard gardens to see if the paper landed somewhere in. the hostas. The front door as a target doesn't seem to be an option. On line requests for redelivery seldom result in getting a paper and the live customer service people are indifferent and dependent on their scripted noncommittal responses to any comments. And in the end, nothing changes. What has changed is the paper's content. Shrinking Sunday Editorial section is now wedged into the A news section, Thursday's Taste feature now wedged into the Variety section while the Sports section knows no bounds and just gets bigger all the time. The rest of the paper's overall content gets skinnier every day. Sadly, I'm at the point where I get more news from other sources than from this once great newspaper. read more

I got the subscription from the state fair when they had their incentives to sign up. Now after a year the subscription went to collections because they auto renew your subscription. They also give you a "grace" period for when your subscription ends. I did not get a year subscription because their magazine, and "extra" paper like holidays all count against your year subscription. To top it off when they call it take 5 to 10 seconds to connect making it sound like a voip solicitation, and I do not answer those calls. Of course their renewal letters are actually a bill, and not a solicitation. This is shame on me for thinking it was advertisements to continue and not actually a bill, but the customer service representative was unwilling to do anything. Should have known the incentives were too good to be true. read more
