Everything from the latest high school football scores to fun events for the kids and the hottest deals around town. I first became of fan of Eastlake Times on Facebook after a friend recommended it to me. After looking at the site, I wish I had known about it sooner. This is a great resource especially to new residents. Like many military families, we have had our share of moves. We moved three times in six years. If there were a site like this for every community in which we needed to relocate, it would make the transition much easier. About a month ago, I put in a request to have Eastlake Times promote a fund raising event for a local elementary school. Mark was incredibly helpful and posted the event not only on the Times, but also the Facebook page. This was much appreciated. When I was growing up, I knew all my neighbors. There was a sense of community. Now it seems that more people are 'too busy' and are loosing touch with the area in which they live. Eastlake Times keeps you in touch and informs you of all the things that make Eastlake a wonderful community to live. Highly recommended! Great job Eastlake Times!

LGBT Weekly is one of the better free San Diego gay rags out there. The magazine isn't flooded with…read moreadvertisements as much as some of their competitors. Not to say that there isn't plenty of annoying ads, there are but not as bad as it could be. There is the usual information covered of LGBT related affairs going on in the local area and on the international and national levels. I feel like the format of the information with LGBT Weekly is laid out better than other gay rags you can pick up. What is also useful that I found with this magazine is that towards the end they have a page devoted as to where you can actually pick up the magazine. There have been plenty of instances back here at home where it is a surprise that a store has one of your favorite free rags and you never knew it. Of course the opposite can be applied to this as well. One thing that I noticed with San Diego's gay rags is that many of their articles are duplicated. Not copied of course but duplicated so if you are picking up a bunch of different gay rags you more or less wind up with the same information. Not that that is necessarily a bad thing but it is repetitive but it allows the consumer from their preferred magazine without having to constantly pick up different magazines to get different information.

Editorials and "social columns" are merely predicable unresearched butt kissings or hit pieces so extreme & biased that the reader ends up wanting to form an opposing opinion. There are too few stories that are useful and informative. It probably doesn't matter as printed free "bar rags" catering to gays are probably going to cease to exist anyway in the near term. I don't know if the paper is bankrolled by the unions or the Democratic party but its content leads one to believe that it is. Fortunately, gay issues and important events are covered by the mainstream media in San Diego so these magazines are not needed anymore. The magazine is a dinosaur and its challenging to keep it even break even financially. With expenses cut, there are no talented reporters so there are just too many things going against its success. Advertisers are choosing alternatives as readership of the printed copies declines.

I like NPR and came here on Sunday to be part of a live broadcast taping of podcasts with the…read moretitle, "Art of Protest." Nice space for a news room and was cool to come listen to this inaugural live taping. Parking is tight around here but the event had free parking if you registered for it. I did not and ended up paying over $20 for parking in a nearby lot, highway robbery. Some of the people interviewed were really interesting. I learned about the Chicano Park here in SD and the murals (I will visit soon) and also learned about the SD chapter of the Black Panthers. They also featured a Latina comedian (she was pretty funny) and also a Thai American signage artist (I mainly came to see his works as his artwork is super neat). Koy Sun is his name, look up his artwork, its pretty sweet. After the taping, there was a nice reception with some finger foods and I enjoyed the beef empanadas they were passing around. Overall, a fun and educational Sunday afternoon. Id come back here again.

That'll keep the lights on. Caveat emptor up the wazoo. I hold no fault to the people publishing and involved with Vision. I do still think it's great and provides much to enjoy. I just get a little sad for the desperate and/or mentally ill, scrambling for a solution that end up in the clutches of the equally desperate and/or mentaly ill that are lurking about with a tripped out solution to sell. Vision not only jumps out at you at the most random locations, but features some of the best articles and advertisements ever, like ancient healing massages for dogs followed by dog bone aromatherapy treatments and How My Sea Monkeys Taught Me To Enjoy the Simple Life. That's not to say that this magazine is poorly written or non-amusing. Quite the opposite.
