San Diego Social Magazine has come along way since it released its first issue back in May of 09…read more No doubt they hit a few bumps in the road along the way, what new business out there hasn't. Social found something that San Diego was in dyer need of, and that's providing the community with a FREE publication that covers the best of everything happening in San Diego each month. Unlike the city beat's and the reader's of the world that just cover punk rock or club life, Social brings something to the table for every person, old and young, that they can relate to providing the coverage on events and attractions that San Diegan's can be involved in. I know for a fact that all my friends and family look to San Diego Social Magazine first, not because its the best looking or the best put together (that comes with time) but for the accurate information on the events, restaurants, and local issues that help me plan out my month. So obviously you are one of those critics who follow up and coming businesses with a good product and look for any small reason to go on posting reviews because your life sucks. Get a grip, open your eyes, and look at the big picture. Everyone is sorry you couldn't make it in the big boy world, but look at the bright side your probably at home unemployed eating Cheetos, you got your health.

pretty solid design for a free magazine. definitely worth checking out.read more

Yes. Subscription service is outsourced and frustrating as hell. I also subscribe and I get it-I always request a supervisor. I still freelance for the paper and know well the dedicated writers still on staff. They deserve their readers. The business, medical, sports and arts writers are dedicated to serving the public. And the news is reliable and fact-checked - it's not social media blabbering. Consider the journalists who have been martyred for bringing important information to light. Please subscribe.

Bad customer service and unreliable deliveries. My parents were subscribers for 55+ years, and when…read moremy dementia afflicted father moved in with me about 7 months ago I got him a subscription because he still enjoyed reading the headlines. He's not really able to at this point so I was debating cancelling. They made that decision easy when four days in a row they failed to even deliver my paper. It's happened before intermittently, but never four days in a row. You would think considering how few subscribers they have nowadays they would make more of an effort not to upset the ones they do have. As an added F*** You, when I called to cancel they refused to give me a refund for the current month, which they just billed me for this morning. Chasing customers away is the one thing the administrative department does well.

If I'm a bit biased in my review I apologize. If I get the details mixed up it's because the events…read morethat took place happened when I was 6-17 years old. Please let me know and I'll correct. My father, Thomas Shess, started this little newspaper out of our home on 28th St. He wanted to give a unifying voice for the people of North Park and their homes to set forth positive change within the neighborhood. At the time (1993), many of the historic homes that give NP such character were in disarray. In even worse shape was "Downtown" North Park, with the blighted North Park Theater, and seedy 30th and University bus transfer area. Look how far we've come. In a time when this community was considered nothing but ghetto, a handful of residents maintained and improved their North Park homes. My dad put together the first issue of North Park News with the proposed plan of the North Park Sign on the front page below the green masthead, and he ran the paper out of our house on 28th Street until early 2000. This paper was a total family operation, and I can still see and smell the print that wiped off on my hands from stuffing fliers into issues or from dropping them on peoples lawn. I hated it at the time, but now I can't help but laugh when I remember picking up the 2000 or so copies of the paper from the printer. I remember our first color issue, and I remember when I was a staff photographer for a few years shooting Paesano's Customer of the Month. Me being a cute kid and family, my dad always used pictures of my friends and I as models for the front page. We always had a seat of honor during the Toyland Parade, and one year I remember we were loaned a H1 hummer to wave from. It was awesome. My dad sold the paper around 2002 I believe, and I'm happy with how it is today - the buyers are doing a good job. This paper was a part of my life, and now it's a part of the community. Take pride in your neighborhood North Park because people fought to revitalize it. What we see today is a result of the effort of a great number of great people coordinating and working together. To name a few : Senator Christine Kehoe, Councilmember Tony Atkins, Tom & Phyllis Shess, Don Convington, Jay Turner, and anyone who took or takes pride in what is the truly the best and finest neighborhood of San Diego.

I love this little community newspaper but it's so hard to find! When we finally do get our hands…read moreon a copy, it's read cover to cover. NPN, if you're reading this, I'd be happy to pay for a subscription if you made that option available.
