Terrible. I got what was supposed to be a better version of acrylic tips (SNS), and the nails came out incredibly chunky with no form of smoothness as it's supposed to be. I attempted to have her fix the incorrectly filed chunks that I noticed on the spot, but I soon realized they were all lumpy and horrible. I'm writing this now because as I am currently attempting to remove these nails myself, the unusually large chunks of the material are ripping at the nerves of my natural nails. I recommend that if you go, you pay extra attention to how they're spreading down and filing the substance on the nail. This was not only an atrocious look while I had them, but now it's extremely painful to remove. Star Nails is the best "to go" choice.. The store is extremely clean and comfortable, the person work there are nice and skillful. I do my French manicure and eyebrow, both of them are just so good.. I told them I want a natural and pretty one, he did perfect because the white line (sorry Idk how to call it lol) are uniform, clean and my friend said looks good.. GREAT EXPERIENCE AT STAR NAILS! I went into star nails on my break from work feeling concerned that I might not make it out in time but I was pleasantly surprised to find that I was taken care of very quickly. That's not to say that I received a rush job as my French gel manicure came out great. I tend to be overly critical and a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to the shape and the precision of a French manicure but star nails exceeded my expectations. I was seen by Tony who was very friendly and honestly gave a better massage than Ive received by professional massage therapists. I'd also like to mention that the prices are very reasonable and cheaper than other salons I've been to. My French gel manicure cost $30 when I normally pay $35. I heard that there was a new owner and the prices were good but this place is terrible! My nails are all the wrong shape, different sizes and extremely splotchy. All the nail tech said was sorry while laughing. Lastly, they cut my finger. Disappointing they treat new customers like this. read more

Horrible manicures. They laugh at you. They switched manicurists cause the first one did a horrible job on the top coat. The second guy didn't think to take it off and start again so now layering looks horrible. I didn't want to stay and have them fix it because it was only $10 and it took them sooo long to just paint it the first time. Im usually not picky for a place to get a pedicure but this place is awful!! Completely understaffed and unprofessional. One of the ladys was giving my friend a manicure, filed her nails to bare nothing, and then went back over to finish another ladys nails. No sanitation and one lady was eating at the workstation. I hesitated to write this review but as I relied on Yelp reviews and was let done yet again I have decided to share my experience. While Dragon seems like a nice guy and has the potential to be a great manicurist he lacks the initiative and attention to detail as well as pride in his work.The 1st and 2nd times I'd visited my nails were done suitably well. I was excited after bad experiences with a few salons in the area, that I'd found a place I could go to regularly.He knew how to do silk wraps if needed and this unlike 20 years ago when I'd last been to salons regularly, seems to be a forgotten art. All was well till my mother and I went back on the 3rd visit and I told him that I had a small tear in 1 nail which I thought he should patch before it got worse.Any woman knows that after your nails are longer the last thing you want is 1 to break. I usually maintain my nails at home but just wanted a break from that.Instead he decided to file it and insist it was fine and it tore later the same day. Also I felt the manicures we were given that day were rushed and done carelessly.My nail lacquer was bumpy with what looked like cotton lint. I chalked it up to them having a bad day and went back about a week later alone.Once again after telling him to patch a nail he instead decided to add a thin layer of glue which wasn't sufficient. He knew this but I could feel he just didn't want to do it. Same as before the nail later tore more Necessitating me to fix it again which was upsetting as I felt I'd just thrown money away. At this was point this was my 3rd visit and I was seriously debating whether to go back. I hadn't gone back in a month's time when feeling unwell and not up to doing my nails myself , I called and made an appointment.I specifically asked that he leave enough time because he'd likely have to re-do a patch I'd done on my nail.Instead that morning he decided again to just glue the nail. I believe it was because he had a lady walk in and wanted to fit her in before his next client walked in. My nails looked sloppily painted. The color was streaky and looked uneven on some nails.To make matters worse I ended up having to re-do it all 2 days later when several cracks in the nail lacquer started to appear and the nail he neglected to re-do the patch on cracked. Sadly I'd called him the day after and his response was your nails are too long which is the ridiculous.They aren't that long and isn't that the whole point of going to a salon?? I know he can't believe long nails are only for people with acrylics and enhancements. I also believe he lost interest in even doing a decent job after I turned down his recommendation of an SNS manicure.I believe he wanted me to have it done because it was a lot more money and tbh it wasn't in my best interest.I refused after reading that it is damaging to your natural nails.Unfortunately I will not be returning. At the last visits he'd made shoddy repairs after saying he would re-do the silk. At this last visit he did the same and than said he'd remove them all next time. I refuse to be fooled again. Also aside from bad service the salon lacks cleanliness. If you look closer you'll see a lot of dust and they do not use new, disposable implements like some salons in the area now do.The last time I was there he & the older female manicurist were speaking in Chinese.She was clearly angry she had to deal with a walk in when she was expecting her next client soon . This caused Dragon to have to cut my time short and go do the walk-ins nails instead of just telling her to come back later. read more

Having recently moved into the area...I didn't have a "go-to" nail salon. I've tried several good ones in the area and found them to be priced relatively high. Star Nails is not only really well priced, but the manicurists do a really great job! I guess I found my "go-to" nail salon! Every time I've been in here (3 times as of this posting) regulars are always walking in. May be best to make an appointment, but they take walk ins. You can pay with a cc, but tips in cash. :-) read more

I use to love this place, Dragon does a great job. Unfortunately I had two experiences that will prevent me from ever going back. I get gel manicures, and on two occasions, the manicurist had removed the gel, then made me wait until they completed someone else's manicure before finishing mine. my fear of getting my nails done at any nail salon that usually caters to females is at a point of zero so now i can walk in any nail salon and get my nails fixed with a smile and calm demeanor . in glen cove you can walk around the downtown area and find a diverse selection of shops and as i stroll on a snowy day i knew that my nails needed a nice makeover . the place ain't fancy at all but it's clean looking and they seem to have all the tools and accessories needed to do nails , etc . i went with the 34 dollar special which is a pedi and mani with a 15 minute simple massage . the young asian gal who spoke a few words was all business and did a really good job, my nails look neat and i can walk around my friends and family without my socks on and not get sarcastic comments on how bad my toe nails look . i could use another back and foot massage very soon so a return visit is looking good and prices ain't bad either . read more

I have been to Star Nails three times, and have finally learned my lesson. They got my business because there are few salons that are open on Sunday. Friendly people that work there, but the materials they use are shoddy and cheap. On every occasion, I have been there, the polish (gel) has not lasted 2 weeks. They are constantly trying to get you to upgrade and when you say "no thanks" you get a shabby job. I will definitely look for another salon, it's not like there not on every other corner in Glen Cove. Oh, and the last two times I was in, I witnessed two customers come back for repairs because the nails had either broken off or was damaged in some other way. read more
