And I mean that as praise. I don't just mean it had a verse on the wall or worship music humming faintly behind the grinder. I mean the place carried a spirit of care. You could feel it in the details, the warmth of the baristas, and--most of all--in the baby shower happening quietly in the side room. From what I could tell, it was all women--close family friends of the expectant mother--gathered in soft tones, with gifts, cake, and affection flowing. There were balloons. Laughter. Maybe a tear or two, but the joyful kind. I thought about the holiness of childhood, the ridiculous courage of parenting, and the spiritual stubbornness it takes to keep loving in public. There are many ways to do Christianity poorly. But when it holds space for reflection, for the protection of the vulnerable--children, the poor, the disabled--it becomes something rare and tender. Unfortunately, our experiences over the past couple of days have been very disappointing. On both visits, the quality of our drinks was noticeably poor. Our regular Starbucks orders tasted unusually bitter and did not appear to be prepared correctly. We also received drinks that had the correct order stickers attached, yet when we brought the issue to the staff's attention, we were told that we had taken the wrong drinks. What made the situation particularly uncomfortable was when a staff member announced loudly to the café that someone had taken drinks that belonged to another customer and that they now had to remake them. This was embarrassing and unnecessary, especially since we had simply picked up the drinks displaying our order information. When I tried to explain this, the employee with curly hair and glasses responded to me in a manner that I felt was rude and dismissive. Even the replacement drinks did not match what we ordered, as they contained cold foam despite the order stickers not indicating that cold foam had been requested. We understand that mistakes can happen, particularly in a busy environment. Our concern is not simply that an order was made incorrectly, but how the situation was handled. Customers should not be publicly embarrassed or spoken to disrespectfully when they are attempting to resolve an order that was labeled with their information. Because this is a Starbucks location we routinely visit while traveling through Lincoln, we hope management will address both the consistency of drink preparation and the way customer concerns are handled. We would like to feel comfortable returning to this location in the future.

Not so many tables inside (only about five, each for four people), and rarely were people coming inside for a long time staying, thus it really is a hidden gem for me who is an introvert and loves privacy and silence when studying. Though their prices were a little high at least for coffee, I would regard it as reasonable since they don't make money by attracting a huge number of customers, but providing a decent environment for guests to chill'in.
