Star Barber Shop is a no frills, mom & pop barber shop with skilled professionals working there. If you're a veteran, active military, or just need a simple, clean fade they will hook you up. It's $15 for my haircut which is just a simple medium reg with a zero. The woman and man are both good at what they do. If you have more complicated needs, I'm sure they can do what you need. There's another shop down the street that will cut your hair as well but they will literally take an hour (I'm not joking. It takes them soooo long to do a simple fade) to do what the barbers at Star can do in less than 15 minutes. As it should be. No military-style cut should take 45 minutes. That other place by the sandwich shop is ridiculous. I've been in search of a new barber shop since my old barber of 16 years retired. Star Barber Shop is my new place. read more

Always does a good job. That goes for both barbers the husband & wife couple. I use this shop every couple of weeks. I highly encourage you to try them out, as the price is right, compared to other shops in the area. As a matter of fact, I'll be going in the shop today for a high & tight, bald fade. read more

Had my hair cut here a couple of times. Always had the same lady cut my hair. This time her husband cut my hair. He was in a hurry. He did a poor job then charged me $15. Imagine $15 for a bad cut. And I always have short hair. When My wife looked at my head there was a hole in my hair. Do yourself a favor. Find a good barber elsewhere. read more

Looks like they a little skeptical of cutting black ppl hair , even tho I always just get a military style haircut

If you're a Marine or in the military in general, I would recommend this place. As expected, because you look like you're in the military they will go a little too high with the fade. Just make sure you communicate that you do not want a high regulation cut, if you're worried about them going too high. I'd specially recommend the woman who works on Sundays. She is in the chair to the back and to the left. I like her because her fade is a little smoother and it's closer to the skin. It's $9.00 for a military haircut. They do NOT cut African American hair. The barbers words verbatim. "We do not cut African American hair". So if you are a black male do not go here. They turn you away at the door. That's just what happened to my 16 year old son. The barbers on the south side of San Antonio were so much nicer. It's been an interesting 2 weeks here as new residents of Universal City. read more

Husband & wife team provide excellent and efficient service at a very fair price. Friendly folks, though the wife has a somewhat limited vocabulary (Korean nationals). They always cut your hair the way you want it, not the way they think you should have it. I highly recommend Star Barber Shop. read more

Friday afternoon - hit during slow period 2 barbers working-in/out pretty quick. Recognized one of the barbers who use to work on post. Good quick clipper cut - didn't use scissors but looks fine. It was a quick cut and just as good as going on post. $10 buxs for military haircut, no waiting. read more

Worst place to go get a haircut in universal city. They were super rude to my family and would not cut my child's hair the way I asked them. On top of that they completely sabotaged my hair. I've been getting my hair cut at Star Barber Shop ever since they opened several years ago. Before that, Mrs Cheung worked in the BX Barbershop at Randolph AFB - where she had a great following - which prompted her and her husband to go into business for themselves. I have watched them cut all types of hair over the years. They have never turned anyone away. As for me, I've always received great hair cuts, even though my hair is very curly and difficult to cut. They cut African American hair extremely well. My husband has been getting his haircut by Mrs. Cheung for over 16 years, and our son for the past 8 years. My husband is very particular, and she does a phenomenal job each time. There is no other barber in SA that he trusts. 5 stars!! read more

Don't waste your time and money for a barbershop that says they don't use scissors. I took my son and then when asked the Chinese lady to trim the top of his hair she stated she didn't use scissors. I asked her what was the picture of scissors doing on the sign? She said she didn't use scissors. Never heard of a barber shop or hair cut place that didn't use scissors. read more

New to Universal City and had a really awkward issue happen at this barber shop. I'm a black male with relatively short curly hair, i walk in and is greeted by a Korean woman i sat in her chair and asked for a number 1 all even w/ a line up..a very easy haircut i have had numerous times with other barber shops. She cuts my hair, and lines and me up...i wasn't happy with the line up it was crooked and uneven i complained a bit, she says she sees no issue with it. I brush it off frustrated and just want to pay and leave. She tells me $15...i got a standard military style haircut..which on the wall says $10..i ask why am i paying more...she says basically because i'm black and dont have straight hair and that black barbers in the area charge $15..i'm ask why does that matter...she gets extremely loud out of nowhere and ask me over and over if i understand her....i kept my temper in tact paid and left....This Korean barber shop is blatantly RACIST it's not fair that i have to pay $5 dollars more with out them telling me before hand...shady stuff...if you so happen to be black reading this..skip this place. read more

maybe the lady does a better job, but that guy just jacked me up. stay away. recently retired with a beard. my man messed up the side burns leading into the beard. no thought I would give this place a try since Asian barbershops have been cutting my hair for the last twenty two years. no go read more
