He made our Bosh dishwasher working again for a reasonable price and was nice to give us some good pointers and demonstration how properly to take care of the dishwasher. The technician arrived in a timely manner. Was professional and knew how to resolve the issues. Quite often I would choose the company which has less reviews on Yelp but will provide a very good quality work for less. Like in this case with Star Appliances. read more

Star Appliances - Our dishwasher was fixed. - Appliances & Repair Near Me - San Francisco, California

Slava has helped us in the past with both our fridge (LG) and our dishwasher (Bosch). Today we needed help with a broken (Frigidaire) oven. Slava made time to come by the same day and was extremely generous with his time and knowledge, ultimately coaching me through the process of ordering and replacing the parts myself in order to fix the machine at the lowest cost possible (which is so greatly appreciated). Thank you Slava! read more

Tremendous. Cannot recommend highly enough. Slava is incredibly knowledgeable, kind and a treat to chat with.

Blue Star sent Igor out because my brand new hood didn't work. I asked that he call when on his way, but he just showed up. Not personable at all. Checked the control board and said everything was good, but the fan still didn't work. He said he wasn't trained on remote fans and left. He contacted Blue Star and said it was a. Installation problem. Blue Star sent a new board board to Igor but he said he doesn't work on remote fans and wouldn't replace the board "inside" the hood. Terrible customer service and experience. read more

If I could, I would always pick star appliance to work with. I've gone through old republic home coverage, and as much as possible, I would prefer to work with slava. Very professional and accommodating. He took the time to go through my fridge thoroughly, and explained to us everything we needed to know. Even when it was hopeless, we discussed other possible solutions. He was very patient with us as we had to reschedule quite a bit. He made no issue or complaint while he was at the house. read more

Slava at Star Appliances worked with our Bluestar Stove and a Zephr Hood when we lived in San Francisco. Having moved across the bay to Berkeley 4 years ago, when I called him up for advice on an issue we are having with our Bluestar oven dial and the themostat rod, he took the time to describe possible issues, then looked at and commented on what he saw in a couple of photos and a video. He doesn't typically work in the East Bay, but he took time on the phone to coach us through what we are dealing with. A really reliable, helpful person who's a good communicator. Can't recommend him and Star Appliances highly enough. It a world that's increasingly about customer service wait times and app interaction, it's encouraging to have this kind of help and expertise, and to have it shared so generously. 5 stars. read more

We got a referral to call Star to fix our refrigerator. Slava gave me a 2 hour window and showed up promptly in the middle. He diagnosed the issue quickly and made the repair. The work was good and at a fair charge. Slava is very knowledgeable and patiently explained the cause of the problem. He was even willing to give us some advice on a kitchen build. He was friendly, respectful (women-you know what I mean), and didn't leave a mess. We would definitely use Star again if we need a repair. I noticed a few comments about not returning calls/communications.....one reviewer mentioned a different city but Star is only local, so wondering if the reviews are for another repair company with the same/similar name. With Covid 19, it seems a lot of service people are swamped with all the additional use and wear-and-tear of people using their appliances more than usual while sheltering at home. read more

Slava called me back pretty quickly and came by the same day. He showed up 5 minutes after the 3-5pm window he gave, but that's not too bad. He's a nice guy, and seemed very knowledgeable. Knew right away what was wrong and had it fixed in about 40 minutes. Also provided some tips on all the appliances about how to keep them in good working order. Downside: very expensive. $180 in labor ($60 service call charge and $120 install charge - yes, for a little over 30 mins work) to install an $80 pump. He told me ahead of time what it would cost, and while shocked, I had a bird in the hand, so just had him do the work. Most repair folks I have dealt with waive the service call charge if they in fact stay and do work they otherwise charge labor for. Even if he had done that, a min labor charge of $120 is ridiculous. read more

I called several appliance repair shops to replace the boot (the large rubber gasket) in my clothes washer and Slava was the only one who would take on my repair without hesitation. All others were very elusive about approaching this, but Slava assured me he could do it. He's also a great communicator and answered his phone and updated me on the day he was to do the repair. He also explained why others may not have wanted to take on the repair, and walked me through the process. He also provided tips on what type of detergent is best and how much to use. He knows his stuff. The repair was completed relatively quickly, he was super nice to work with and charged a fair price. Hard to come by with the usual repair person. I'd hire him again! read more

I filed a claim through Old Republic and was matched with Star Appliances. Slava came out to fix a washing machine door. He didn't have the part on hand, but came back out the next day and was able to fix the latch. He was prompt and explained to me why the latch broke in the first place and how to properly care for the washer door. Thank you for the great service! read more

I had a problem with a gas leak in my Blue Star, and after having PG&E wrongly diagnose the issue, and the other area Blue Star repair guy giving me the run around, Slava came in and took the time to carefully look over the range, disassemble things for better access and correctly find the faulty valve. He gave me an honest quote and was punctual and communicated well. When the valve replacement took longer than he thought due to mismatches between the new valve type and the old valve, Slava was patient and explained everything. Overall a great experience, and I'd definitely recommend working with him if you need a repairman. read more

I gave it a 1-star because they answer their phone, otherwise their service sucks in Murrieta California. I would not call them but my home warranty company calls them for some reason, probably because they are available and maybe cheap. They called this same company (Star Appliance Co) like 10 times over couple of years to repair my GE refrigerator and they always have to come back and repair it again, now they say my waterline froze because of manufacture error on insulation for my GE refrigerator and Fidelity Warranty co, will not cover it and I have to get a new refrigerator. They are useless! read more

Just had the repairman from Star Appliance over to see about a range hood that had stopped working. He went to great lengths--in a condescending tone--to explain that there was an electrical problem in the wall as all the circuits appeared to be fine, and that I needed an electrician. He also showed me how the outlet next to my stove also wasn't working. After he left, I wondered if just pressing the reset button on that outlet near the stove would solve the problem. Presto! Outlet working. Range hood fixed. If I'd listened to the guy from Star--who I'd just paid $60 to for nothing--I would have also paid an electrician, for basically nothing. How can I know more than the Star repair guy? Let's say, I won't be calling them again. read more

Our fridge stopped working and we didn't know why. So I called Star appliances and Slava was able to come that same day. My home warranty policy couldn't come until the next day which wasn't going to work. Slava was great! He order us a new part and installed it as soon as it arrived. He also took time to go over proper care and maintenance on our dishwasher and washing machine. I would't trust anyone else after my experience with Slava. Also, he didn't overcharge!!!! So many other place cost so much more for half the customer service. read more

Slava is a very pleasant guy. However, I was not happy with his repair skills, his suggestions and tardiness. 1) He arrived 30 later than the time window of 2 hours that he allocated. I understand that things can happen. However, when I called 15 minutes before the end of the allocated window, he said that he will be there in 10 minutes. I have to coordinate this with tenants and need advance notices of changes, and not the last minute ones. If he would call me at least an hour before and coordinated a new time, I would not have mentioned it here. 2) Slava did not know what the problem was. First he could not reproduce the problem even though my tenant gave an exact instruction how to do it. Slava said that everything was fine. When the tenant showed him how to get the noise, Slava said that he saw this for the first time. He then said that it might be the timer, and I would need a new washing machine. Well, the repairmen who I called after, showed me where the problem was. It was the ball-bearing that could be removed if only light washing is done, and that is what my tenants are using the dishwasher for. 3) Slava priced changing the coin operated dryer from $1 to $2, as a $120 job. After I told him that it will take him only 15 minutes and asked to charge $60 as for his regular visit, he dropped it to $80. read more

I highly recommend Slava. Our Blue Star range had a few issues and Blue Star had him come and fix them. He was responsive, prompt, and even went the extra miles to come to the East Bay in afternoon traffic. If you are lucky enough to live in the City but have a broken appliance, make your first call to Slava at Star Appliances. read more

my LG all in one washer dryer was making a terrible noise and wasn't function properly. I was a little nervous about finding someone who could fix it because the machine cost me 2000. Star was one of the recommend LG repair places. I gave them a call and in 2 days they were at my townhouse to determine the problem. The water pump had broke and needed replacing. They ordered the part and 1 week later we made an appointment to have it fixed. The machine works perfect now. The only reason I can't make the service 5 stars is the fact that they were 1 hour late the first time they came over and 2 hours late the second time. I would however use them again. read more

I called Slave because the oven in my 16-month old Blue Star range would not start. Blue Star recommended him highly, so that's who we called. He returned my initial call quickly, and made an appointment for the following morning to visit my home and take a look. He was very comfortable working with this range, and replaced the worn igniter right away. I recommend him to anyone who needs appliance repair. I will never be calling Sears or a large shop again. When my 15-year old clothes washer somehow breaks, he will be here again. I don't know what to make of these one-star reviews on Yelp, but it seems that some don't understand the service industry and are expecting to have immediate satisfaction, no part ordering and acceptance of electronic payment methods. read more

Quick update. The drain hose on my dishwasher broke, and I used a different repair service. What a mistake. The dishwasher went out the next day. I called Slava, and he had it up and running that day. Stay with the best. read more

I worked with Slava on an issue re my fridge. This company was referred through a claim filed with Old Republic. I cannot say enough good things about him- he was prompt, responsive, and extremely knowledgeable. He took time to explain the problem, and the solution and left the area clean. Although he was just there for the fridge, he provided tips on care for my other appliances in order to minimize the need for repair. That's great service! read more

Slava from Star Appliance scheduled a visit to our house on extremely short notice to deal with a laundry room flood caused by a 'broken' laundry machine. Embarrassingly, we discovered the problem (a silly mistake on our part) just before he arrived. Slava was very sweet and didn't charge for the cancelled visit, even though he was almost at our house, and even offered a bunch of advice by phone when I called to cancel. He will definitely be our first call when we next have an appliance break. read more

Slava came to my home to fix Dacor microwave oven. He did not look at the guts of the unit, then told me the three main componets of the unit were broken. Cost to replace about $700.00 for a $900.00 unit. He charged $60.00 for the visit and did not fix anything. Sounded fishy to me. I had a "real" repairman come out. He thought it might be a faulty switch, based on his experience. He took the unit out of the wall and found the problem (a faulty switch). He replaced the faulty switch ($31.00) in 15 minutes. The microwave runs like new. read more

Great service. He was friendly and knowledgable. After calling all over town to get my Hotpoint Diswasher fixed, he was the only one who agreed to come out. For some reason, repair companies seem to be allergic to Hotpoint brand dishwashers even though it is a GE product. Their loss, it was a quick fix. I would call him again for sure. read more

Their price for coming out is very reasonable. I feel they are honest people. They have been to my house twice. And both times very nice. But.... but...... I don't think they know how to critically think through a problem or have common sense to realize efficiency and organization of common place materials and problems. They came out for 2 hours if I remember and technically realized the problem. But I decided not to repair because they recommended it wasn't worth it. I decided to do some research. Sure as shit the next day I discovered there was a common bent wire issue with my appliance. I opened it up and in 5m fixed the problem. I used to do network hardware repair many years ago. So I know the technical repair field quite well. They need to do research on what they are fixing and do a quick check of very common problems for what they fix. They should also carry around common repair parts that are shared across appliances. They will make more money and spent less time at their customers. I read one review here about an electrical problem solved by a reset button from the customer. That is pretty shameful that they didn't test that out 1st. When repairing you start with the end element and work backwards to specifics tracing back and eliminating things as you go. In my case. A short and what are the very basic things that cause a short. Nice guys though. read more

I have used STAR appliance Repair twice in the last 3 years and was very pleased. I called them and emailed them Friday Feb 23rd in the morning and as of Thursday the 28th no response. Slava under communicated the terms and conditions, and he over charged me for the clothes dryer repair. If I could I would give them no star at all. We called them bc the door from our dishwasher wouldn't properly close and the machine wouldn't start. They come, didn't repaired a thing and told me that they couldn't find anything and the dishwasher would work. The machine worked for a few hours, yes, but the problem was still there. When my husband took a look at the dishwasher it was very clear to him that the lock was broken. We tried to schedule a second appointment but they wouldn't call us back. I just had Slava over again to repair our dryer. Our home warranty covered the work but the company refused to fix it until we had a person lift the dryer off the washing machine. Excellent! Called to get our dishwasher fixed and Slava came out the same afternoon (working with my full schedule) fixed the machine (which involved taking sections apart, cleaning the gunk stuck in the innards, and reassembling) He carefully explained the problem to me as he worked through it and gave tips for avoiding the same problem in the future. He also looked around at every appliance in my kitchen and gave me thoughtful tips on how to best maintain each item to have the fewest repair issues. I must say I am impressed during the holiday season I usually have everything covered ahead of time. But having my LG washer breaking down on me while in the middle of a full load with the kid's sports equipment is not pleasant at all. I took a breath stepped back and proceed to yelp. Gave these guys a call and had an appointment set for the same day. The gentlemen who came out took a look at washer and had the parts in his truck to fix it the same day. I was absolutely relieved that it was fixable and that I didn't need a new machine. These guys are awesome if I'm ever in jam like this again these guys are my go to company. read more
