This place was a little gem of a restaurant we stumbled upon during our drive through Oamaru. Full of history with tons of weddings having taken place here over the years.
We got the mushroom stack, roast meat plate of ham off the bone (with gluten free/dairy free options too!), lamb shanks, and the seafood chowder.
The lamb shanks couldn't be more tender and were totally fall off the bone and all the other food was quite good and filling. Just had a feeling of great home cooked food.
The restaurant is famous for its seafood chowder and, while it's not the best chowder I've had, it was one of the most unique. I've never had a chowder crammed with more seafood (clams, fish, mussels, oh my!).
The service was prompt and friendly. There weren't any tables when we first arrived but we were told to check back in 30 mins and sure enough a table was waiting :)
The only disappointing part of the meal were the vegetables included in the meal which were a bit overcooked and lacking in flavor. That being said, we would 100% come back here for a great meal again! read more
