People are warm and genuine and there are lots of opportunities for people to get together to know each other and grow in their faith. The building is large and provides plenty of space for ministry, including a thriving nursery school. The leadership recently conducted a professional survey of the church, and our church scored highest on worship, friendliness, and leadership. It also showed that we need to do a better job of spreading the good news of Jesus outside our church walls. We're not perfect people, and we have a culture of humility that pervades the congregation. In my experience, Hillside is a place where you can come as you are and find acceptance and love. The sturdy stone building with glorious stained glass windows houses a well maintained and moderately sized chapel with the choir seated at the front, directly behind the pulpit. The organ is placed to beautifully balance the architecture as are the arches and celestially painted blue walls. Every Sunday fresh flowers grace the alter and the music program will inspire even the most grouchy attendee. As for the sermons, you get out what you put in to it. If you don't bring your own ears to hear, you wont, if you know what I mean. This congregation literally puts their hearts and souls into good works and will change the way you give of yourself to life if you hang around long enough to listen to the outreach programs facilitated there.

One of the largest gothic cathedrals in the world, St. John the Divine is breathtaking in scale. From the detail on the windows, to the massive columns, to the art installations inside, you can literally get lost in here. They monetize the hell out of what they have here, as they rightly should, with tours. You can explore the main body of the church, the grounds, the towers, and even the catacombs once a year. There's a ton to see, so I would say it would take 3-4 tours to experience it all. Best of all, the people working here and the clergy could not be nicer and more approachable. This is truly a pillar in the community and they're proud of it. They also put on a bunch of really cool events, including the procession of ghouls every Halloween. They also have 3 peacocks--including a white one named Phil--who roam the grounds and the surrounding area until the cops chase them back. If you're at Columbia or live nearby, you definitely need to check this place out at least once!
