It's really terrible how little this church cares about their neighbors. The violate the noise…read moreordinance nightly. They have concerts that are so loud that can be heard all the way down the street and they go on well past 11pm some nights. When the parishioners leave afterwards, they are very loud in the parking lot and have no consideration for the fact that we have children sleeping and we have to get up at 5am for work. Even after contacting the church and asking them to be mindful of their neighbors and turn it down to an acceptable level, I was told that they were well aware of the proximity to their neighbors, however, they have done nothing to address the concerns of their neighbors. I have also witnessed parishioners emptying food trays in the grass!! That is not ok. That is disgraceful. Worship who you want, as much as you want, but have some respect and consideration for your neighbors.

The music program is exceptionally strong, with top-notch directors and a roster of professional musicians that rivals those of NYC churches. Every Sunday they deliver concert-quality music, and there are opportunities for singing and playing handbells, at different levels, for anyone who would like to join. The program is excellent, somehow, without being exclusive or elitist. The Director of Children's and Youth Ministry, who runs the youth groups, is hilarious. The kids love him. He finds the right mix of games, lessons and fellowship to engage students, and ensures EVERY student feels welcome and part of the community. Last, but not least, the sermons are first-rate. From the pulpit, I want to learn something and be challenged to change something. I find that at RCB. The sermons are thought-provoking, assume (correctly) a high level of knowledge and sophistication of the congregation, and push each listener to reassess how his/her actions are reflective (or not reflective) of the week's Christian principle. We worried when we moved to the suburbs that we would not find a church that matched our family's differing interests and hopes for a faith community. We need not have. Over the past several years, RCB has become our family's home.

It would be with extreme caution to visit Shiloh. Good music drums, guitar, singing…read more THE SERVICE This sanctuary is hostile and contemptible particularly during the service and collection of the offering. The "message" delivered is demeaning, judgmental, and patronizing. One, two hours of being screamed at and then demands for money, "no less than $62.50!" says the preacher. A look around, this House of God is falling apart. The message of the service a setup manipulation to lay down guilt for this money with many staff then swarming around the room with nasty looks, nasty comments, and baskets collecting from anyone not running up to the front with an envelope (like visitors). The congregation holds generally indecent attitudes. They stare, they look people up and down, they judge with hateful looks or lick their lips like eye candy. Warning Jesus you are going to want to take a shower afterwards to wash this crud off. IGNORANCE & SCREAMING Staff are negative and unable to communicate or work effectively as a team often speaking as if idiots. Instructions are disorganized, confusing, inconsistent, and made as a SCREAM!! This adds to the hostility, for example in the dining area. Many are missing teeth and mispronouncing ordinary words: - in the kitchen: apples does not start with the letter "W" and is not pronounced "you want wapples?" - Pacific starts with the letter "S" when used to refer to a unique detail. Pacific means something entirely different - And the word LIBRARY has two "R"s in its pronunciation- lī-brer-ee PHYSICALLY AGGRESSIVE The staff is physically aggressive. I saw a woman staff member of the kitchen for no reason physically attack a younger woman ripping and pulling at her, also right in front of her husband. He calmly stepped in between to protect his wife. A few moments later, two young guys from the church came to talk with the husband and wife. The wife said to these boys "it is not okay for the kitchen staff to act like this, to be aggressive and put their hands on people visiting." One of the young guys said reluctantly and in an embarrassed tone, "everyone here is aggressive, I am sorry. It is best to try to not upset them." The root of these attitudes and prevailing criminal behaviors are unclear. It is disgraceful to hear young guys accepting or explaining bad behavior by "elder women staff" inside the Shiloh Church. It is also unclear what measures are being taken to impede the apparently obvious pervasiveness of violence under the church roof and the "this is how it is" attitude. Here are presented some symptoms of a bigger root problem consuming the pious space and devotion holding things to a low-level mentality. TRY ANOTHER BAPTIST CHURCH As mentioned, if you are baptist, looking for a church, maybe try down the road at Bethesda Baptist 71 Lincoln Ave, New Rochelle. I have seen them treat people with dignity. People have teeth there and dress in clothes that match. My experience there is limited. I gave one star since I did receive occasional pleasant smiles from some quiet, well-meaning individuals. And I liked the music. I would NOT step a foot inside Shiloh without having my guard up to analyze each person's intentions. This place has serious leadership questions and the sense inside is very confused. Someone honestly needs to rediscover and emulate the message that Jesus demonstrated otherwise it is clear that this "church" is on a path like so many other former churches in America that forgot its purpose.

Based on that mass I deduce it is meant to appeal to the bicultural cohort (to which I belong). Lovely to see full families, children, teens, young and mature adults there. I give it a 5+ star rating especially because it angers me someone gave it a 2 star rating because it has mainly Spanish services a a few English. For that alone it should get 10 stars for being an island of refuge for many in a sea of Anglo-oriented ministries. Considering this is one of the most diverse areas of the US, it puts the other local churches to shame for their lack of inclusion of the Spanish-speaking community's needs.

I accidentally went to one of the Spanish masses & their congregation is HUGE & very well represented. By comparison, the one English speaking mass at 5:15pm on Saturdays, has sparse membership, with not more than maybe 20 in attendance when I went. Still, if you're nearby & don't have a car, this is probably the only Catholic church within walking distance. *TIP: English mass at 5:15 pm on Sat.! (Supposedly, the Sunday 10:45 am mass is bilingual.)

The room they put us in (I think it was the fellowship hall) was okay but the ladies bathroom toilets were awful. The handicapped one was disabled & the other two barely flushed; apparently only one was working properly enough to use consistently. That toilet overflowed the second day I was here for the shoot. Furthermore, that stall did not have a bar for the toilet paper roll so you had to roll the paper very carefully to get it off without having the roll fall to the floor. Thankfully, one of the church reps directed me to a restroom with fully functioning toilets that was much nicer. They don't seem to have a parking lot here & I don't know if you can do street parking in this part of Mount Vernon but the church itself is easy enough to get to if you're going in the right direction on the one way road.
