I am really really looking forward to the day when I am living in my own house and I can furnish it…read morethe way I want. No landlords restricting painting, and enough space to put things that look nice and comfortable. This place on the outside just reads 'The Furniture Centre'. However, on their website they call themselves 'DFS - The Furniture Centre'. I am guessing this is so that they show up on search engines when people search for DFS Furniture, fair play to them. But they are not *the* DFS, so don't be confused between the two. Despite this they still offer a really good range of furniture, at a much cheaper price than the original DFS. Coffe tables, console tables, occasional tables, TV and media Units, storage units and book cases, tub chairs and arm chairs, dining room furniture, kitchen and bar furniture, mirrors, bedroom furniture, sofas and sofa beds can all be seen in their 4 showrooms. They also offer free delivery on purchases of over £1000.

Quite modern looking chairs with leather finish and contrasting fabric cushions, dining table and chair sets as well as outdoor furniture. The shop offers a small range of home office furniture, sofas and textile for various uses. All you need to a little home improvement. A delivery service is offered and there is also a comprehensive online shop.

I really don't know why I do it, it's silly and it's unfair, but I almost can't help it. I have a…read morebit of a torturous habit of wandering into interior design shops and planning all the rooms in a home which simply doesn't exist. I do not own my own, nor am I likely to for some time, so it really isn't good for the old self esteem! Nevertheless I can appreciate these places as I please, and it does indeed please me to say that Maison have some utterly delightful items inside their store. The first items which struck me were their lovely collection of lampshades and cushions, sat delicately in the shop window. With the embroidered hearts on ivory cushions, a beautiful white bureau to accompany the gorgeous lampshades and matching draft excluders to go with the cushions, I don't think any living space could be less inviting! The majority of their stock seems aimed towards a more country cottage, homely style than anything else, and it's just lovely. This country home feel is perfectly matched in the little town of Ilkley, so it's no big surprise that this is what they are selling, but that's not to say you won't be intrigued. They have interiors for virtually any room, from beautiful dining tables and chairs, kitchen crockery cabinets, bed frames and more; they have enough that you could fill the whole house with their goods, allowing that cosy, lovable theme to continue throughout! Honestly, for beautiful interior design, this place has my vote!

Pad is an independent furniture shop with 3 floors full of a wide range of furniture and home ware…read more Before entering you have to ring a bell to be let in, which gives it a rather upmarket feel, though seems a bit unnecessary. The furniture is mainly wooden dining furniture, tables of different sizes, shelves and wardrobes. There is also an array of smaller bits and bobs including mirrors, vases, paintings, ornaments, lamps, picture frames etc. so it's quite a good place for homely gifts as well as bigger household purchases. Generally the style here is tasteful with a bit of character, with most designs quite simple but with an unusual touch, such as the basketwork dining chairs or blocky wooden drawers with chunky square handles. The products at Pad aren't cheap but they appear to be of high quality and you can find pieces that really stand out, such as a circular mirror framed by large carved chunks of wood that would be the centrepiece of any room. If you like confident style with character, and natural materials then Pad is definitely worth a look whether you're furnishing your home or just looking for a mirror or vase to liven up a tired room.

If like me you're more of a fan of dark wood furniture and struggle to find it in the chain…read morefurniture shops I'd definitly recommend paying a visit to Pad at Kirkstall (or their sister store in Batley Mill). I have overlooked this shop for a long time, thinking it would be a bit out of my price range, but actually prices are pretty similar to what you would find in most of the normal furniture shops. The lady who works there is very helpful and they will order in any items they haven't got on the shop floor so it pays to ask if you can't see what you're looking for. If I could afford it my home would be like a pad showroom!
