Looked into Stanley's as a venue for my wedding. Absolutely stunning property would make for incredible photos. That's about the only positive thing I can say. There is three venues; The Maples- large venue, a large tent - medium venue, and the old stone house - smaller venue. We toured all venues but were looking at the old stone house for our number of guests. First of all, rental of the old stone house doesn't actually include any use of the house, just a small addition built on the back that was tiny, awkward layout, and had a funky odour that the obvious air fresheners did not mask. The tent is also located too close to the old stone house making it disruptive if there's events going on at each location. Their facility fee was a bit lower than other places we visited, but then they nickel and dime you on everything else. In the end their quote ended up being a couple thousand more than other quotes we had. I was actually offended when I reviewed their detailed quote, not because of the overall price, I expect some places to be more expensive than others, but by the way they add fees. Most places include standard items in the fee, ie: standard linens, an appropriate number of tables and chairs for your guests, basic set up etc and you pay for upgrades/extras. Not at Stanley's. There was a charge for everything you could possibly think of. They charged for the use of each table, each chair, each linen, the use of the cheap Christmas lights that are already in place. The cost of the food was comparable to other places. You might expect that the price of the meal includes the use of the plates it is served on and basic utensils, but you would be wrong.Hope none of your guests drops their fork. They expect u to pay $3/ chair for you and your guests to sit on low quality cheap resin outdoor patio chairs. They completely lack any back up plan in case of bad weather. We were told if it was raining the ceremony could take place on the porch of the old stone house, but our guests would be left out in the rain. Not a problem, most people have an umbrella in their car they assured us. Rural location with no overnight accommodations nearby. The event planner did not follow up with us at all afterwards and we had not said anything of most of our concerns at the time. read more

Short and sweet sugar bush review. Pros: The food is OK at best, no bacon served. Cons: -#1, and this is a biggie. They don't make maple syrup here, they buy it from other farms, the grounds are an elaborate ruse, giving the experience of an old fashioned sugar bush, but don't expect their syrup at the buffet. -The price seems lower than others, but you must pay for hay rides and taffy pull separately, so it all works out to the same. -The petting zoo is sick and the smell alone should be grounds for calling the humane society. The cows have their heads locked into bars and pigs are in small boxes and can't move. The horses on the hey ride were driven until they refused to walk any more. They were cold, wet and over worked. The experience was sad. -The people who work here are old, grumpy and give the impression that they just don't care. The younger staff in the buffet were must nicer. We went last night , there was 17 in our family group! 4 kids 10 and under!! We all had a wonderful time! The horse drawn wagon was so perfect in the snow going to the elves village, it was well done, lots of lights and the fires kept us warm!! The kids loved it!! read more

I have been a big fan of Stanley's Olde Maple Lane Farm from their humble beginnings in their small barn. They have built the farm to be a true family experience; my favourite is of course the Sugar Bush in the Spring. Some may say it's expensive; I'd rather pay a bit more and support a locally owned family business than support a major restaurant chain. read more

THE GOOD: First off, the property is absolutely amazing. Perfect setting with a variety of locations for outdoor weddings as well as a few nice indoor spaces. Makes for amazing pictures. Secondly, the location is close to Ottawa yet still rural so that you can avoid the hustle and bustle of the city on your special day. Finally, Stanley's is well connected to many businesses that provide any kind of service possibly needed at a wedding...sky is the limit. THE BAD: First off, bad communication between the owner and the coordinator results in a lot of promises that are not fulfilled. The coordinator promises the world and the owner goes back on all these promised UNLESS "you take out your pocketbook and start writing checks" ---direct quote. Secondly, money issues again. You tell them the budget and they go with it and then nickle and dime you to death on everything else that you need so that you are forced to go way over budget. (It should be assumed that at a wedding venue, most normal things are included...here you are charged for every chair (plastic patio chairs), napkin, fork, and plate that is used.) Many things that were promised for our daughter's wedding day were MIA on the big day---profuse excuses were given, but no apology. A rain plan building was promised free of additional charge if it happened to rain on the wedding day (full guarantee was promised), however when the big day came---and it poured---the "rain plan" location was already booked by another party and thus there would be an additional charge for a suitable building ("take out your pocketbook and start writing checks"). Thirdly, there is an extreme lack of professionalism portrayed by the owner (see above shady money comment) and the coordinator, who confidently says she organizes hundreds of weddings annually and has been in the business for quite some time. This is very unapparent in her lack of people skills and overall coordination on the big day. RESULT: Incredibly beautiful location---almost unparalleled in this region. Horrible personal experience that led to a very stressful pre-wedding day nightmare. Anything surrounding money, is sketchy with this company at best...should definitely be reviewed by the Better Business Bureau. Would strongly caution any of my friends that were planning to have a wedding there, so that they could: 1. Get their own wedding coordinator. 2. Bring a lawyer when they signed the agreement. 3. Draw up their own contract regarding what is promised for the big day, and have that signed by Stanley's as well. read more
