This place has survived our mini apocalypse of C19 and the speed service from bakeries popping up all over the place If you're a baker one thing I can tell you is Standlee's never disappoints. One thing I noticed different from when I had a cake business is that the store got a little smaller than what it use to be but with that I also feel like it's made better use of space for better quality materials. What they have now? Great stuff. From molds, pans, ready to use embellishments, ICING! I've always made my own icing from scratch but the buttercream icing they have here is so good! You get those amazing peaks for good formation. They also carry a variety of fillings for cakes. It's one of the very few cake decorating supply store that carries more unique supplies you won't find at places like Michael's. The staff is super friendly and helpful too! read more

Originally I didn't want anyone to know about this store so my wife and I and a handful of people could pretty much have it all to ourselves. But at this time, when people are on lockdown again and staying home more, baking hobbyists and baking businesses need to support this place more than ever. My wife and I drive all the way from Vista to come down here and trust me, it's worth it. Why wait for Amazon when you have it here right now when you need it? I took photos of all the things that would normally catch our eyes when we walk in. Caroliina and Sheryl were very polite and friendly as always. The woman inside was super friendly both on the phone when I called and when I came to the store. I have had this place booked marked for a while and while down here for a dentist appointment so I finally made it down here. I'm glad I did because this place was a bakers dream store. The store is big, had lots of cupcake toppers and a ton of cookie cutters. The owner is what really stuck out to me. She was so kind an went way above to provide amazing service. I wanted anatomy chocolate molds ( like kidneys and hearts ) an she special ordered them for me. I've recently gotten into baking a lot so wanted to find a good store with a lot of decorations and other necessities that I needed. It's a cute 2 room store. They have a good variety of different things for baking. The owner was nice and very helpful. She even gave me a sample so I could try the buttercream icing! They have the icing in white, red and black. They have a vendor in there throughout the week that can specially make different cookie cutters and other items that the store may not have. Some items can be a little pricey. The only discount I know of is the one on Yelp for checking in. They honor it even though it's expired. They have a 75% off clearance table, but it's kind of picked over and random stuff. read more

VENUE-5 stars I am in awe when I walk into this place. They have quite a bit of cake supplies to meet your baking needs. They also have all the colors of the rainbow of chocolate for the candy molds and so many choices of different molds. Came in yesterday looking for hard candy molds. While they do not have a huge selection it was good enough to buy some at about $3 each. They have a lot of the LorAnn oil flavorings also fairly priced. Great place for weddings. If you bake or you make candy this is the place for you. They also have a guy who can make 3D molds for you within 4 business days. The employees were helpful. read more

I stopped here this week for the first time and loved it! I'm far from a professional baker, in fact I'm pretty crappy at decorating cakes. But I've stepped up my Youtube cake baking/decorating video viewing so that I can finally churn out some decent looking sweets once I'm equipped with the proper tools. I'm too lazy to make one, but if I had a "30 before I'm 30" list, baking something professional looking would be on it. Could you just hit the internet for baking supplies? Sure, but then you'd be missing an opportunity to support a local business. The local baking/cookingware shops are drying up around San Diego and I refuse to let them all die. Chef City is my fave place to go for cooking supplies and drooling over commercial restaurant cooking machines, but I need a bakery store. Google presented me with Standlee's. I've read a few reviews saying the reviewer had been ignored or had a poor customer service experience but I had a great visit. There were two women working in this cute shop. The owner herself even walked over because the cashier was busy with another customer at the moment. They both made me feel welcome and like I could ask questions if I had any. There are signs posted to keep your kids from grabbing/breaking the merch which is totally understandable. Maybe leave your kids at home with a responsible adult if they're particularly grabby and destructive. They have a great selection of gel paste colors, liquid dyes, flavor extracts, sprinkles, pearls, sprays, cookie cutters, candy molds, cupcake liners, decorating tools, and all kinds of cake boards. There's a lot of stuff packed in this little shop. From what I've read online the store has actually been expanded so if you haven't been here in 10 years, it's twice as big now! If you need something to decorate with or bake in- they've probably got it. The prices were totally reasonable and some things were even cheaper than Amazon. for 13 bucks I walked away with 5 gel paste colors in the exact shades I wanted and a frosting smoother. By shopping here I saved over 10 bucks vs. Amazon prices. Buy local and support this lovely shop. Keep your eyes on their social media pages for their upcoming classes/events. I look forward to trying a few classes in the future and they vary in skill level/cost. Some are kid-oriented and look like your kids will have a blast. Bring some change for the parking meters and be prepared to get a huge itch to bake something pretty! read more

I lived in San Diego in the mid 1970's and visited the original shop monthly. On a military wife's budget, they were always friendly and most helpful. The shop even had cake decorating lessons on TV with the founder = off I go for yet another tip or pan or disposable cake tier as our budget allowed. Baking wedding and specialty cakes from home gave me the extra $$$$ I needed for yet another tool or piece of equipment! Every time I visit San Diego (long overdue) I make it a point to stop in and bring home a "souvenir" !!!!! Sounds like the owner keeps up the tradition of great service! I had heard of this store before but never had the chance to visit. Cake supply shops are becoming extinct in San Diego so I'm happy to see this landmark is still going strong. I came around Christmas to pick up some unique cookie cutters for a friend who loves baking. Skip Michaels, jo Anne's, and come straight here! Don't even waste your time anywhere else. I came thinking of getting maybe 5 and walked out with 25 cutters and a ton of sprinkles. Speaking of sprinkles... they have a fantastic selection! They are all organized by color and they even have unicorn mixes. I would say they are geared more towards cake decorating and they have a ton of boxes in all shapes and sizes. This place is awesome! I needed a custom cookie cutter (Pinkie Pie from My Little Pony) and getting it shipped to me in time would of cost around $30. I came across Standlee's website and noticed that they did custom cookie cutters with 72 hour notice! I called them and they said to Facebook message them a photo of the cookie cutter I wanted, dimensions and they could quote me a price. I was quoted $18.99 and compared to $30, I was sold. Plus I wanted the cookie cutter to leave an impression since the cookie is so detailed. As promised, I received the cookie cutter within 72 hours. They mentioned that sometimes they can get it done sooner depending on their vendors workload. When I arrived to the shop to pick up the cookie cutter, I was just in awe! Unfortunately this is the only place to purchase baking supplies. I've been here in the past with the girlfriend and the service was fine, but this time it particularly sucked! The dark haired lady with glasses was utterly useless! I asked if they had bear shaped cookie cutters and she told me flat out, "No we do not." Then I explored around the store to see if they had any other alternative and guess what... I found at least 2 styles of bear shaped cookie cutters laying happily on the wall. So this leads me to this question. What was your purpose? Were you trying to get me out of your store as soon as possible? or are you just an idiot and do not know what you sell? Honestly the prices at this store aren't all that spectacular. All you get is convenience, being that you can buy what it is you need on that very same day you need it. The GF needed a bear head cookie cutter for one of her recipes and I had the privilege to go to this store by myself to buy it... whoopee! I highly advise people to purchase their items off of amazon where it's way cheaper and you can get free shipping. If anything I'd try Michael's out first before visiting this place. I noticed on your door that there was a sticker that says, "people love us on yelp." Well I hate your store and I'm no push over with 3-4 friends on here. Other staff members in this store were kind and helpful, but this one time with this individual screwed it up. If you can't help me find something as simple as a cookie cutter then why the hell should I help and support your business with my money? Standlee's is a quaint baking supply shop in the heart of Downtown Chula Vista. Their selection of pans, decorating supplies, candy molds, and so on isn't as great as that available at Do It With Icing in Kearny Mesa; however, they may lack in variety but their prices are competitive. I'm a full-time, unemployed student so believe me, I shop for the best price. Standlee's doesn't apply a mark-up to any of their Wilton products so I was happy about that. But I realized, you're better off waiting for the 40-50% coupon from Michael's to satisfy your Wilton needs. Their fondant shelf is always stocked. The 2 lb. Satin Ice will run you about $15 and the large 10 lb Fondx is about $40. I prefer the taste of latter over the former, plus Fondx is much more pliable whereas it takes awhile to knead Satin Ice. Also, their selection of dusts (lustre, pearl, glitter, etc) and piping tips is AMAZING! And their cake boards and boxes are definitely cheaper. The employees here are nice and the owner is always more than helpful. If there's anything you need that they don't have in stock, just ask and she'll order it for you. :) read more

They've recently expanded, making more room for a wide variety of goods to sell you. Fondant, foil paper, cupcake liners, cake boxes and cake boards - I've bought them all here! Prices for goods are still pricier than online. When you are working on a last minute project, beggars cannot be choosers. But, Standlee's friendly and helpful customer service always makes up for it. Great supply place! The lady there was so helpful. She even gave me the name of a cake decorating school in La Mesa. The store is well stocked with a variety of things, and most things have several manufacturer's to choose from. They carry FondX, which is my favorite fondant ever. A great selection of Debbie Brown books may be my undoing! She was really nice to my talkative daughter, too. It's definitely a drive for me, but I will definitely be returning. They have a very large variety of chocolate molds, cookie cutters, disco dust (my obsession) and the list goes on. Pretty much all your baking needs. I'm from North Orange County and was visiting my BFF in Ramona for the weekend. I'm new to cookie decorating and it's become a slight obsession. This is a nice store. The friendly and knowledgeable staff was helpful. The only thing is they should let customers use the bathroom. We had come from some distance and I really needed to use the restroom. I spent over $50 so I wasn't just walking in to use the restroom. I will be back but will be sure to go potty first. Standlee's your the topping to my cakes! I love this shop! I have been shopping here for a couple of years now. I especially like the shop now that they have expanded. There are tons of items to choose from an the pricing is good/reasonable. I did not know about half the items I could be using for my cakes until I visited here. There is an extremely knowledgable woman who offered advice, told me about the classes they hold. The two younger girls that work th counter do not seem to be as knowledge in the cake/cupcake area so try to look for the older woman who runs the shop as she is the most helpful. read more

This store has a lot of options for baking and decorating. I have always had a positive experience with the employees as well. They are friendly and helpful, especially the guy that works there. The negative for me seems to be the owner. She always responds in way that seems she could care less if you come back, need help etc. Usually seems to be in a bad mood. I haven't spoken to her directly but the employees have asked her questions for me so I've heard her response. I have heard talk to others as well. I am constantly in the kitchen baking up yummy things. I am always on the look out for new and creative things to spice stuff up with my cupcakes and cakes - I felt like I walked into heaven when I walked into this store.
