The Desert Winds Freedom Band (DWFB) is a feast of both sight and sound. They play a wide…read morerepertoire of modern music and some classical. Each concert has a theme, such as the recent "Portrait of America" program. A very large video screen includes custom videos that accompany the music. All the band members are volunteers. A subgroup is the Jazz Band. The entire group makes up the Symphonic Band. With more than 80 performers, the sound is rich and immersive. Typically, a band doesn't have string sections. The different instruments provide the full tapestry of music. For example, the clarinets carry the music that might be played by the violin section in an orchestra. An important exception is that the Jazz Band usually has bass and guitar performers. Most concerts are presented at the Temple Isaiah in Palm Springs. The DWFB has also performed holiday music outdoors at the plaza in front of the Rowan Hotel in Palm Springs. In 2024, they awarded eight $1,000 college scholarships to Coachella Valley HS grads majoring in music. Another aspect of their school outreach is inviting guest composers who work with school music classes before performing at one of the regular concerts. 5-stars for repertoire/artistic direction. 5-stars for outstanding and dynamic concerts. 5-stars for community and school work.

After Christmas when we went to make our appointment, the D & D website was gone (Blank page). It was like this for a while. I tried calling the phone and nobody ever answered. Several weeks later the website was back up but they still were not answering the phone. Every month or so I've tried either calling them, leaving voicemails, or emailing them but have NOT ONCE heard any response from them. The only thing left to do is drive to the actual studio and confront them in person. At this point I do not want anything to do with them. I've already requested a refund from Amazon. The space is large, but one thing that stands out is how dusty the theater seating is. It's visibly noticeable, even in the dark. The building is pretty on the outside, and it's not bad inside. They don't have their own parking area so you have to park at one of the many different businesses nearby, or the parking garage behind the Mission Inn.

This is a beautiful old theater in downtown Riverside, not far from the Mission Inn. I had…read morepreviously been to the Fox Theater, which is at the other end of the district. The area is really beautiful, with lots of gorgeous historical buildings. I arrived a early, and was able to find a handicap parking spot right on the corner near the theater. Parking can be a challenge , but there are some lots in the area to provide extra parking. I ran into some people that I had met at previous concerts, and we chatted while we waited for the doors to open. The entrance and the box office are up a flight of stairs, so the ADA entrance is an elevator to the left side near the stairs. We waited here, and they escorted us up to the checkin area just before the general crowd was admitted. The theater is beautiful, with seating on the main floor at the back and in the balcony. We were in the ADA section on the right side. It's not raised, so you do have a little bit of a blocked view of the stage. Sound and lighting were great, which is good because some older venues have issues with the sound especially. I really the Nothing More show, and the openers were good too, which is a bonus. There is one small concessions on the concert level. Everything else is downstairs on the ground floor. Restrooms, larger bar, and merch for concerts are all here. ADA access is from that same entrance elevator on the left side, and there's a hidden women's restroom near the elevator. I will definitely be back, when there's an important show that's worth the trip to Riverside.
