The ground is the squishy astroturf stuff, which I think is nicer and more kid friendly than woodchips. There are clean restrooms available right next to the playground, with a water bottle filling fountain on the backside of that building. I've never seen a water bottle station at a park before (only normal water fountains) so that was cool. My only downside here: The playground area is completely open with no shade, so bear that in mind on hot days! When we visited it was in the mid-80's and we all got toasty quite quickly. There are two shelters with tables/benches available along the side, presumably mostly for parents and caregivers as the playground is so fun - good luck getting your kids to take a break from playing!

Last Saturday we went to Little Mashel Falls, and it's the first "new" hike I've done in a while (one that I haven't done before). The information on AllTrails & WTA is kind of confusing and daunting to follow regarding parking, so let me make it easy for you - PARK AT THE BUD BLANCHER TRAIL. It directly takes you to the falls trailhead, you don't have to be out of the lot by 2:30 (it's open til dusk) and it's right off a main road so you're very close to civilization and not in the middle of a forest or random highway. You can easily GPS Bud Blancher Trail by name and have no issues. There is a portable bathroom at the trailhead that is clean & maintained regularly, so if you really need to go, it's not the worst. This trail is fairly easy. There were a few times that my heart got pumping, but overall it was a great morning workout. I didn't hike to the Upper Falls as I've heard the views weren't that great. I did the Middle & Lower falls. The lower falls is a steep descent and coming up is probably the most incline you'll deal with the entire hike. Middle Falls is very easy to get to but be VERY careful on all the big rocks as they are very slippery. We had someone in our group fall (they're okay) and I slipped a few times myself. That being said, it's gorgeous and you can go underneath/behind the falls for a deafening experience if you so desire! Highly recommend this trail. Dog-friendly, kid-friendly (I'd say 6 and up), and great for beginners.

August 19-22, 2025 - Toledo, WA…read more We really enjoyed our stay at Lewis and Clark State Park. We camped on the forest side (east side), not the equestrian side. The park is divided into two sections: The forest side is where you'll find most of the standard tent/RV sites (no hookups), the group camp, kitchen shelters, and a large day-use meadow, and the equestrian side (west side), across the road, is set up for horse campers. It has full hookup sites, corrals, and direct access to horse trails, but it's more of a parking-lot style layout. Although the website notes "25 tent spaces" as first-come, first-served, we were able to make reservations months in advance for our 27' Class A motorhome. Arrival & Campsite Check-in is at 2:30 p.m. A ranger welcomed us as we unhooked our tow vehicle, and later stopped by our site with a park map and helpful information. Each site comes with a picnic table and fire ring. Our site was spacious, fairly level, and accommodated our rig easily. Trails & Atmosphere The park features several beautiful trails, including one that winds through an old-growth forest. Interpretive kiosks and signs throughout the park make for an interesting walk. While you'll hear some road noise from Jackson Highway, the tall trees and forest setting still create a peaceful atmosphere. Overall, this is a lovely campground if you're looking for a forest stay with trails to explore, just keep in mind it's not a silent wilderness escape due to nearby traffic.

August 21, 2025…read more Great Washington State Campground. Very lush and green with lots of Doulas Fir, western hemlock trees, and ferns. There are full hook up and dry camping sites. The full hook up sites are pretty sparse near the main road and there's not a whole lot of greenery. The non-hook up sites are spacious and have picnic tables and fire rings. You can reserve your site online ahead of time.

They have some nice walking paths and the place is generally clean. Right now they have Christmas…read morelights up and getting ready for the Borst Park Drive-Thru Light Display. Don't miss it! It's really special at night.

We usually drop by here when we visit the outlet stores because the doggies need a walking and they love the squirrels and we love the fresh air, the trees, and the free doggie bags that encourage people to be good citizens and clean up after themselves. The place seems safe, but I also was very happy I was packing heat since sometimes it looks like people are hanging around in their cars with nothing to do and you never know what's going on in their heads. There's a playground and even cornhole boards so they want people to hang out, which we'll be more amenable to on a warm day in the summer.

It's a short trail, completely on boardwalk. Off to either side you'll find nature-related sculptures amongst the plants. Halfway up the boardwalk, there's a spur that leads to the more physically demanding Cutthroat Trail. A nice diversion if you're driving past on 101 but not a destination. Going over to Long Island would be a destination.

The out & back trail itself is fairly uneventful, but take those short off-shoots when the posted sign with the tree symbol makes an appearance. There are definitely some larger lovelies up there that make a brief trek worth every step. If you're a tree lover like myself I highly recommend Teal Slough, another cool spot within the Willapa National Wildlife Refuge.
