The locally made ice cream is so lovely and you can have cones with 99's and lovely chocolate wafers.Be ready to queue outside during summer months as many people come to the little village of Great Ayton, with its flowing small stream especially to have an Ice cream. They then sit over the road to look at the River Leven and perhaps watch young children feeding the ducks. Suggitts is frequented by lots of cyclists who stop for refreshments on route. During busy times the owner of Suggitts who lives over the road opens his field for extra parking spaces.

The sweet shop is one of the more old fashioned ones with large jars of sweets on display where you ask for the a quarter of them etc. There's also a more moden selection of sweets just on the counter in front of you. The main attraction however of Suggitts really though has to be the icecream. On a hot day, the queue is literally out the door heaving with cyclists and young families queuing for 99's and ice cream wafers. The cafe part is small and usually very busy. There's a selection of hot drinks and scones on offer as well as some other small cafe bits. I would recommend this to anyone, I have cycled up many a time stopping for a rewarding ice cream on the way home. It's ideal for cyclists, families, young couples and old couples. And if you head just over the road and over the river, there's a walk you can do while you happily munch away on your ice cream. Beware parking is free but Great Ayton is a disc zone in parts. Just be prepared to withstand the queues for this hugely popular shop and you'll get what you waited for.

Beautifully and tastefully decorated paying homage to all things prewar hanging on walls and fire mantle, don't miss the restroom. Even if you don't have to go? GO! It's too interesting to miss. The waitresses even dress the part with their dresses, makeup and hair perfectly quaffed. The food; well, I was pleasantly surprised. At first I thought charming quaint themed atmosphere tea room food must be either subpar or just okay. I ordered the daily special and my oh my to my surprise it was real good food served with real Hartlepool happy hospitality. I cannot fault this place. Well expect that it's too far from Miami, Florida. But when in Hartlepool England check this place out for afternoon tea with great Hartlepool charm Prewar. Don't worry you'll be transported back to present times once you get the bill. Not incredibly pricey but not incredibly cheap either I'd say it's reasonable for the food, service and charm. Enjoy.

Mothers Day Surprise!…read more We wanted to take the Mothers somewhere nice and out of town and had seen The Garden Kitchen had been visited by a number of our friends and family on Facebook, all giving great reviews and I can see why! We arrived for final service at 6pm and as you can imagine it was very busy on Mothers Day. The maître d' came straight over to us to let us know how long it would be until we were seated and continuously gave us progress updates. Whilst waiting we perused the small shop of local produce, had a drink and soaked up our surroundings. The Tea Room is a new addition to Holden Clough Nursery being built in the last few years, but looks like it should have always been there! It is beautiful and sympathetically designed to its surroundings. So, the food....WOW! I'd seen pictures but when our Afternoon Tea arrived on a mini picnic bench I felt like clapping!! (In fact, I think I did!!) Such a great idea and adds a little bit of originality and quirkiness to your experience. Everything on my picnic bench was delicious. The Mushroom soup was silky, creamy and full of flavour. The mini Roast Beef Dinner served in an individual yorkshire pudding was beautiful and of course came with a little jug of gravy and beef was tender and pink. The scone was fresh and light with jam that had just the right sweetness and fruit mix. My other main highlight was the Rocky Road, I'm not usually a fan because its too rich and sweet but O-M-G this was amazing. I still find myself thinking about it now two days on. The chocolate melts in your mouth to find small nuggets of biscuit and mini marshmallows.....all washed down with a great cup of coffee. John & Kate who own and run The Garden Kitchen have done a fanstastic job transforming Holden Clough Nursery over the last few years. The service, quality of food and surroundings are 10/10. We will be coming back during the day to visit the nursery (and no doubt the Garden Kitchen too). Thank you for a fantastic evening...and the Mums loved it!! : )

I went with my mum, sister and partner for the Valentine's afternoon tea, it was great it was so different from traditional afternoon tea you got soup in a tea cup, two open top sandwiches and a mini quiche which was a nice change from just sandwiches. The cakes you got was a scone. A mini red velvet cake, a heart biscuit, marshmallows with chocolate, profiterole with white chocolate and a mini love potion in a glass boot. We got a glass of pink proseco it was £19.99 each which is a little expensive for the place as its a tree nursery but they do a different theme for different seasons so it's well worth a visit. I would defiantly go

It shows how…read moresuccessful they are, when you realise this premises is the new one they had to acquire a couple of doors down from the original, because there was just no room for the customer base they had built up! The ladies in there are marvellous, friendly women, who definitely know their tea and cake! As you walk through the glass frontage, the decor is vintage/rustic/local, with walls filled with cute posters and twee ornaments without being sickly. The new place is light and spacious, with at least double the tables of the last little shop, which you can reserve or hope there is one free (I missed out on graduation day in November and was very grumpy!) but the thing to behold for me is the tea shelf. Wander over, and pick your tea in a mug or a pot by perusing the labels and opening the big glass Kilner jars to sniff at the gorgeous varieties of loose leaf teas inside. They do cakes well, and their Danishes are fabulous, a nice range of sandwiches and bagels means you aren't stuck for choice whether you have a sweet or savoury tooth. Another deal not to miss is their afternoon tea, now £10 for a slice of cake, scone, sandwich and unlimited tea. I've spent many an afternoon taking advantage of the unlimited tea! Check out; The chocolate mint tea The turkish delight tea The cream earl grey tea The lemon danishes Wednesleydale and mango chutney sarnies (I used to seriously rib my dad for this combo when I was in middle school, but so good) The chocolate bar cakes And some pretty good vegan bakes too

There's a massive variety of tea to choose from, and you can dictate how much you want, from a cup, to a huge pot. All the teas are loose leaf, so you really get the different flavour of each tea. I've discovered some personal favourites, thanks to this place. All of the cakes are homemade, and some cater to dietary requirements, so there is a gluten free option. The food is always lovely, and brilliant for lunch, or just spending a quiet time in a cafe. If you like the old, romantic cafe aesthetic, or you just want to try various teas, this beautiful little place is for you. Would recommend for young couples, students, and people who want somewhere to relax. PROS: Good food, brilliant tea range, good atmosphere, wonderful staff CONS: No coffee range, but as expected of a TEA house.
