We…read morereturned the following week to spend a little bit of time custom painting pieces that we selected for Christmas gifts. The gnome I selected was only $12. I bought cookies from the cafe, and my girlfriend enjoyed a coffee and muffin. We spent a relaxing hour at the table, taking our time to relax and talk. Another customer joined us and we had a really nice conversation about the holidays. Our pieces were left with the shop to be fired in the kiln; a few days later, we were called to pick up our pieces. My gnome turned out greater than expected; so good that I will not be placing it on the porch with our other small plants and gnomes. My girlfriend's pieces are going to make wonderful Christmas gifts. I wish I could custom make some gingerbread men and snowmen ornaments for our relatives that lost every in the recent floods. We will be returning soon to take pottery wheel classes, and to make custom dishes. Oh,,, while painting our pieces, I noticed that the brush holder cups, the cookie plate, and several other items in the shop were handmade. This is a great way to show the practicality of making things, and the creative ideas put to use. I felt very welcomed in this place of business, and look forward to returning many times in the future. From day one, the owner and staff were welcoming and friendly. Gorgeous quality and selection of heirloom fabrics, excellent selection of threads and patterns, and tons of accessories for your machine. One day while waiting to have my fabric cut, Phil caught me eyeing a Juki. I wasn't looking for a new machine at the time, but he offered a demonstration including how to proper thread it and adjust tension (my nemesis!), then gave me a stack of scrap material to play around with. After about 20 minutes he asked how I liked it. I said it was amazing. He then said my favorite words, "and it's on sale." Sold! They have been with me every step of the way as I learned my way around the machine. Love this shop!!

Now it is used to sell works by regional artists and souvenirs of the Lakeside Inn. Items include jewelry, art, wood, glass work, woven goods, soap, yard decorations, and books by regional authors. I like how they have signs listing details about the artists. I believe the artists also come to the store for exhibitions so you can meet them in person. The items were exquisite and therefor expensive but they did have a sales table. One necklace I admired was $65. There are two rooms filled with unique, one of a kind items. The whole store is darling. I could have easily spent the bank there. Unfortunately it was the first store I looked through in Mt. Dora so I wasn't willing to commit to anything but I would definitely come back next time I visit.
