Lemontree Gallery and Studio (LGAS) is a beautifully curated art gallery. It was one of the few…read moreplaces that were open in Cape Charles during our visit and the whole vibe of it starting from the front patio was intriguing, so we popped our heads in. The lady working in the studio was conversing with a patron but made sure to welcome us when we walked in. The gallery is very bright inside and the colors of all the different artwork just added to the vibe. The gallery houses quite a number of artwork without it being too overcrowded. They have a mix of large paintings, ceramics, unique jewelry and even furniture. This is the kind of place that I wish I had more time to walk around in alone, but I was with my family so I did the quickest scan I could haha. I noticed things like painted oyster shells (LOVE this type of art), unique jewelry that feels like a soft plastic/silicone/rubber (I'm probably severely mistaken on the type of material), but it was beautiful, very flat, to almost make the appearance that the jewelry is actually a painting on your skin. There was also handmade earrings made with leather pieces. There was an interesting section of large seahorses that was kind of "bedazzled" for lack of a better word, adorned in jewels. They have this beautiful spacious corner in the back, a stage with a piano and the beautiful brick wall with all sorts of paintings. Not sure if they do some sort of mini concert every now and then. That would be fun! Prices range from small ticketed items to obviously higher for the paintings and other large works of art. My mother-in-law ended up purchasing some metal butterflies. Definitely worth sticking your head in, taking in the beautiful art and picking up some unique gifts! It's marked with a bright yellow awning, hence the name Lemontree (duh!), the lemon cushions on the patio furniture and yes, you guessed it, a lemon tree. Stay safe, Friends!

Since it is only about 20 miles from the bridge tunnel up the shore (one of my favorite places on earth!), we decided to check it out. SO glad we did! And since admission is free, it made the bridge tunnel toll worth it! When you walk in you are greeted by the most friendly docent who gives you a brief background of the museum and what it's about. She told us they have several films and asked if we wanted to watch any of them. We did - "Our Island Home" gives you a terrific view of what life on Hog Island was like before it was abandoned from people who were actually born there. After whatever movie(s) you want to watch, you are "free range" to explore the museum. It is SO well done. I could have roamed around for longer than the 2 hours we were there (but I'm a museum reader - I have to check out everything!). Definitely allow yourself a couple of hours to explore. The exhibits are fantastic and laid out well. All artifacts were donated or on loan from actual island families - they don't purchase their artifacts. I like that. Shows the love for the community that these people have. Definitely check out the attic! There are hands on things for the kids - it's hot up there in the summer though! I was fascinated by the twisted chimney (not going to tell you why it was built that way - you'll have to go find out for yourself!). This is a GREAT little stop if you are looking for something cool to do on your way up or down Rt. 13 on your way to your vacation or a great day trip from the VA Beach area. With all their many activities and programs, we will definitely be back!

The other conundrum was missing the location. I got out of work early and was very much intent on visiting so I drove very slowly looking for it and I still missed it. So watch carefully and put your turn signal on early. I'm so glad that I finally made it here. The amount of beautifully crafted fine art on display astounds me. There are so many pieces in here but it does not feel overwhelming or cluttered in this multi-level gallery. The art is varied, so many different mediums and subject matters. The art is stunning, beautifully curated; I'm in awe of the skill of these amazing artists and disappointed that I haven't come sooner. What did I miss on display 6 months ago? A year ago? After an inquiry, the lovely lady at the front desk informs me that the items on display partially turn over about every three months, and after 6 months pretty much everything is new. I'm really excited to see what will be here later this year. I appreciate Deborah taking the time to chat with me twice, upstairs she gave me a little background on an artist whose work I was admiring (Jordan) and downstairs chatting about my background and my desire to be more creative and do more art. If you are an appreciator of fine art come in and peruse. If you are looking for a beautiful piece for your home, office or for a gift come prepared to buy. Pieces most liked from visit#1: Turtle Sea, Finnesse, and this lost wax cast bronze woman/angel on a rotating base (she's on display twice because she can be cast with or without wings).
