Seeking a therapist? Avoid this place for a referral…read more I should have taken heed when their Director of Referral, Lois Wedin, initially actively discouraged me from pursuing a therapist referral through their referral service because she said they didn't accept my insurance. Their website mentions that they offer "affordable therapy, with cost adjusted to your particular financial situation", but Lois never even mentioned this option to me. At the time I was desperate to find a therapist after having bad luck in finding one on my own because so many were not accepting new patients or were priced out of my budget. Their service had come recommended to me by two people I knew so I persevered though I would have been better off not doing so. During the intake process with Lois I felt insensitively interrogated by her, but again went through with the intake in the hopes that I would get a good therapist. Once I was assigned, I was let down, my therapist barely said a word during the several sesssions of therapy with her. I would have had almost as much response if I had been speaking to a wall. I pointed this out to my therapist and that I didn't think my sessions with her were helping, but this didn't change her approach. I wish I had found another source for referral to therapists sooner and not wasted my time. I recommend avoiding Theodor Reik / NPAP and going through a referral service such as: Open Path Collective instead where you can choose a therapist without going through a gatekeeper like Lois Wedin: https://openpathcollective.org/

I DO NOT recommend you come here unless you want to be met with gaslighting and stonewalling. I am using a pseudonym for confidentiality. I saw Dr. Puma for ~2 years before I asked her for a letter to support a reasonable ADA workplace accommodation. She for whatever reason believed the accommodation constituted a legal matter (it didn't), so she said she was going to bill me $1,000 an hour to write the letter. She assured it me it would take less than an hour to write the letter. I was extremely confused but vulnerable so I agreed at the time just to keep things moving. She sent me the letter, but said it took 65 mins (after I gave her a full draft) so I had to pay more than what was promised. She never explained why it took more than the hour she said it would. I was confused and asked her to check with her head doctor if this should really be billed as a legal matter since there was no legal proceeding. I said I'd pay if ultimately needed. She double checked and turns out she was WRONG - the head doctor said it didn't need to be billed and I didn't need to pay her. She said she'd send me the letter and I assumed the matter was resolved. Nope. Dr. Lauren Puma then proceeded to SCOLD ME for 40 mins (during paid clinical time) for "going back on our agreement" because it was about our "relationship" and she "cared a lot about me." She framed my request for clarification as a personal betrayal. I recorded the whole conversation out of fear for my safety. Even after the billing issue was resolved, she vented to me possibly because she didn't like the outcome (ie. not getting paid). She said "here I am putting in all this time and energy..." So what; was she planning to spend less time and energy if she knew she wasn't getting paid? It gets worse. She later claimed she couldn't write me any more letters for the accommodation I was seeking, and during my treatment suggested I: 1) quit my job outright or 2) get anti-anxiety medication, consulting another psychiatrist if one won't prescribe it because it's controlled. This was appalling, so I told her I needed to process and that I had concerns. At our next session, before I could share my concerns she told me she was terminating me as a client. She claimed it was about me "constantly talking about accommodation letters" which was hindering my "progress." This is after she spent 40 mins of a session venting to me because I didn't pay her for the letter. I confronted her about my concerns at this point and she deflected everything. Not only was I now out of an ADA accommodation during a crisis, but I was also out of a therapist too. I became extremely depressed. I was still trying to be diplomatic, so I filed an internal complaint to the head of Wellness Road, Dr. Philip Glickman. I sent him a clear narrative of everything that happened. He responded saying he "reviewed my treatment record" and that following this "internal review" he "determined" that Dr. Puma and Wellness Road followed "clinical and ethical standards." I responded asking how her personal emotional ventings after she found out she wasn't getting paid for my letter were aligned with any standards. I also asked what records he reviewed since I didn't authorize him to review my HIPAA protected records. He said he had no further response and did what he was legally and ethically obligated to do. He then said he "closed" my file and shut down the conversation entirely. I still don't know if HIPAA was violated and how Dr. Puma's personal emotional ventings were aligned with any clinical standards. Please protect yourselves, don't fall into the same trap I did. It's not worth it, find another practice because I think you may end up needing therapy to recover from this therapy.

I think it says so much about Jen's objectivity, compassion, empathy, intelligence and expertise that my husband feels comfortable speaking with someone who I already had a relationship and rapport with - he has never once felt judged or like his comments were viewed in the context of anything I'd said during my individual sessions. She has truly saved our marriage on top of what she's already done for me personally. When I met Jen, I was suffering the darkest depression of my life. I'd gone on leave from work, I cut myself off from friends and family, and my marriage was broken. 1 year later and I've been promoted, I am in the most loving relationships, and my marriage is stronger than it was 7 years ago. The part that is so comforting for me (and my husband - and well, everyone who loves me) is that I have a support system in Jen if I ever go back to the "dark." It doesn't scare me anymore; I don't wake up fearing I'm one raindrop away from the abyss. I know that it can happen again, but that it will be different and better and that is truly because of Jen. If you've been putting off therapy or struggling to find someone you can connect with, I cannot recommend Jen highly enough. She is an absolute blessing in my life.

The other thing that I really appreciate about her style is that she is flexible - both in terms of her intervention style and also her scheduling. Jen makes herself available if I'm in crisis, which is invaluable as I navigate the challenging, yet rewarding process of self-growth. I would highly recommend Jen if you want a therapist that is warm, kind, and really knows her stuff.

I only saw Dr. Shiphra Bakhchi for a few months before realizing how horrible of a therapist she is. It's very concerning that someone so self-motivated could be in a profession built on empathy and trust. For someone who is paid to listen and support, her lack of focus and basic courtesy is unsettling. She was frequently late- once by 15 minutes, and I watched her walk another client out before beginning my appointment. Despite starting late, she never once offered to make up the time. During our virtual sessions, she was visibly distracted, often reading something else on her screen and barely acknowledging what I said. There were long, uncomfortable silences where she didn't seem to realize I had finished speaking, walking around her house, getting ready to leave, etc. I'm a master's-educated woman who knows insincere when I see it. It's hard to comprehend how a therapist can take people's money while giving so little in return- making patients feel like their deepest, most personal struggles don't matter or even deserve to be heard. She made me feel dismissed, unimportant, and even foolish for trying to seek help. As a young adult with family and childhood trauma, I took a vulnerable step in starting therapy again after 10 years, believing it would be a positive investment in myself. Instead, this experience made the idea of seeking help feel discouraging and unsafe. Therapists should never make their clients feel unheard or insignificant, yet Dr. Bakhchi's conduct did exactly that.

STAY FAR AWAY AND SAVE YOURSELF!!!!!!…read more Let me preface this with the fact that I have been in therapy off and on for a decade and have moved around a lot both domestically and internationally, so I've seen a lot of different mental health professionals over the years. I have NEVER left a review for a medical professional of any sort before, but I am telling you, do not use this woman. There are so many other therapists in this city who are also doctors. Don't do it to yourself. Dr. Bakhchi was often late to our appointments and was either walking out a client or had a fresh iced coffee in her hand when she came to greet me. I understand that sessions can run long and providers can get behind, but this was every single time. I only saw her for maybe 6 weeks before realizing my mental health was actually better without seeing her. During the sessions, she would seem distracted, often texting or scrolling on her phone. One time, she asked me a question that had crucial facts wrong in the story I had just told her, and that's when I realized that my suspicions of her truly not listening to me were true. Another time, she legitimately asked me, "How do you want me to help with that?" in reference to opening up about not knowing how to handle my emotions in a situation. Like, I don't know?? That's why I'm paying you to help me figure it out??? The last straw was when I lost my job, so my insurance situation was uncertain. I told her that I wanted to try to find a plan with the same company so that I could still see her, but the moment she thought there may be even a chance that she wouldn't be able to get money out of me long-term, she stopped caring. My last session with her was 15 minutes, but I was still charged the full price. It was so short because she was 15 minutes late, but she cut off my appointment 15 minutes early. This was not a situation where there was nothing to talk about. I was actively trying to fight back tears while talking about a situation when she quickly wrapped up the session and told me to keep her updated on the insurance situation. The LAST thing that this woman did that truly makes me want to report her to the medical board is that she charged me a $200 late fee AND the copay for an appointment that I attended. When I tried to get in contact with her about this, she avoided the question and only paid me back after I continued to press her. She ended up giving me the money through Venmo which I thought was weird, but I was so exhausted with arguing with her and her feined confusion that I didn't care as long as I had the money back. I'm actually realizing now that I think she still owes me $60 from charging me copays on days I didn't see her, but I guess that's just a wash now (and I guess she was able to collect the money from my insurance company which feels wrong but whatever). DO NOT SEE THIS WOMAN. Save yourself. I genuinely don't know how she has any good reviews here. She gives major high school mean girl vibes, and that's really not what I'm looking for in someone who is supposed to help me with my mental health, not harm it.
