I went to St. Pius the X school when I was just a young lad, I was asked to leave in the 5th grade after a Nun "Sister Gabriel" (who had the reflexes of a death ninja) explained to me that there was no hope for me and there would be a good chance that I'd be spending eternity in row boat, on a sea of hell fire with one good ore saying "I should have been nicer." What got me kicked out was after she told me of my afterlife "whereabouts" I requested that she save me a good seat because she was going to be there long before I got there. That was the day a nun beat the Catholicism out of me. But I'll tell you one thing Father Flanagan sure was a good kisser... I'm kidding... he wasn't.
So do I review Catholicism has a whole or do I review St. Pius and how they put on their "big" show? I love the idea of people getting together and talking, expressing their worries, celebrating their triumphs, singing a few songs, throwing a baby or two into a puddle of water, but for the love of God (pun intended) mix it up a bit. This isn't 200 AD; I mean we have cable now. Yes we do need spend some time thanking the big Guy upstairs for what we have and what we don't want, but it's the year 2008, let's get a few jugglers or a pinata in the shape of Satan in there. We should celebrate the life a Christ through song and positive enlightenment, not beaten down with guilt.
A few weeks ago the Vatican came up with seven more deadly "Don'ts" on the old sins list and they are polluting, genetic engineering, being obscenely rich, drug dealing, abortion, pedophilia and causing social injustice. Does this mean that the Vatican is ready to do some down sizing? You take out drug dealing and I'd think I was watching CNN do a story on the Vatican and the guys they hang out with.
I don't remember getting anything in the mail from the Pope about voting on new sins. So I thought I'd jot down a few that come to mind.
1. Blue Tooth phones, you don't need to wear them everywhere you go, like a restaurant for example and you look like a tool.
2. Making "sideways pouty" faces and throwing gang signs in your MySpace picture.
3. Fake tanning.
4. Hanna Montana (anything)
5. Flavored bottle water, it's called "Kool-Aid"
6. Lobster Fest at Red Lobster there's nothing festive about it.
That's all I got for now, maybe I should run for Pope read more
