It's a megachurch and not only did I not attend, I have not paid attention to any of the various current events that seem to be tilting mostly negative about the church. Instead, I was passing through Dallas and had the opportunity to appreciate this massive 19th century church. The historical marker reads, "First Baptist. Organized in 1868 and the first building on this was was a one-room frame structure, which members financed by weaving rugs, making hominy, preserves, and cheese to sell at fairs near Dallas, then a frontier town of 2500. Section of Victorian-style, red brick building was erected 1890; is only downtown Dallas church still on original site. George W. Truett, noted minister, was mastor here 47 years and was succeeded by W.A. Criswell, 1944." It is beyond an impressive structure and worth a visit, regardless of your support of the church. FBC Dallas is the gold standard for Southern Baptist Churches (in my opinion). The pastor is a clear speaker that provides a gospel message each service. The music is top notch and glorifies the Lord without being "a show." The whole pastoral staff has always been friendly and kind each time we have encountered them. The Sunday School programs are engaging and educational for all ages. The facilities are clean and well kept. The congregation has always been friendly each time we have visited and we watch often when we are "home" (which is not the DFW area). read more

I received a call from my father while working today. In 8 years, he has called me twice during work hours. He was upset and didn't know what to do. He watched a sermon June 9th on television by Robert Jeffress, First Baptist Dallas and wanted the resources offered at the end of the sermon. He went online and sent them $100 and never received his items. I didn't know exactly what he ordered, but figured I could call the church and see if I could help. You see, my dad is on hospice and has suffered with cancer for years. He is missing half his face and has difficulty speaking. I called First Baptist Dallas. I was transferred from main operator Sheila to customer service agent, Maria. I explained the situation to Maria and after she looked up my dad's information, she explained yes, he has called several times. She further explained that he gave a gift , not an order for resource material . The money cannot be applied in any other way and she said "he made a mistake". Ok I said. Could we not just send him the items from benevolence? Oh no. Not possible. But she did say they could make an exception and if I paid for the shipping and items they will ship them. How kind Maria. So a megachurch with 18k members and a pastor worth $18 mil can't send a dying man 6 burned CDs and a 50 page booklet ? I know. I know. They run a business not a charity. I found out exactly what Dad thought he was getting and I called Maria right back. I am eagerly awaiting the return call, which I am sure I will get. Christians today wonder why people leave churches in droves and won't join. I know why I left the church I served for 10 years in a ministerial position because of politics, judgment, and dishonesty. It had nothing to do with honest mistakes people made. Church is where imperfect people go to worship with other imperfect people and see the love of Christ. No church is perfect and I have no expectation of such. However, sending a dying man resource material seems like a good use of benevolence funds to me. Oh and I did go to the website and I was confused. I am tech savvy and my dad can barely use the text feature on his phone, so yes he likely did check the wrong box. The best part of all of this? The last time he called, she said he needed to use more patience and began praying over him on the phone. Great Maria. Thanks. Perhaps Dr. Jeffress' next sermon series could include Galatians 5: 22-23, instead of prosperity messages. Obviously, his messages on prosperity gospel have been heard loud and clear. I was supporting a family friend who was getting baptized so I parked in the guest parking garage directly across the street from the church (fountain). I was greeted by the volunteer at the visitor station located in the parking garage which had coffee and general information. The man escorted me into the building to the indoor visitor desk where a sweet lady took me to the main sanctuary where the baptisms are held. There was a 'kids cove' located in the lower right section where kids were sitting with their families learning to worship. #genius Dr. Robert Jeffress' was very well spoken I completely understand why so many people love him. There bulletin consisted of upcoming events, fillable sermon outline as well as the visitor information. The visitor was Lauren Green from Fox News who was there signing her new book. Absolutely amazing ! Blessed place to visit as I am a part of the body and member at Cottonwood Creek in Allen. I've served here in Pathway to Victory and amazed to see the Lords work. If your are sitting home and don't have a Church Home, I pray that Holy Spirit will guide you to get up and go. It' not work based, but we have to make a choice to who we would serve. We are called to WORSHIP the Lord not just by signing but part of serving Him includes living a sacrificial life, word of encouragement, being His hands and feet daily as the Holy Spirit continues to guide, sharing the Gospel and out personal given testimonies with others. Daily living- If He would take a vacation and not give us breathe for few minutes we know what will happen to us, we choose to serve God who is our Savior and to give Him the Lordship which He deserves. This review is actually of the head pastor. Senior Pastor, Dr. Robert Jeffress. Dr Jeffress came to visit Chicago and did a sermon at Moody Bible Church. The sermon in the Sunday pamphlet was to be Is America a Christian Nation. I wasn't looking forward to the topic listed in the pamphlet; to be honest. Sometimes a sermon on such a topic can run rampant conservative and people like myself will either run out or just shut down the brain. I'm glad Dr Jeffress did a topic change. I was constantly focused on his words and with the stories he told and information given, I was always interested and waiting to hear more. He is a wonderful speaker, clearly heard and his words ring true. If I'm back in Dallas in the future I hope to stop by and see the church and hear another awesome sermon. read more

I have only gone a couple of times, but it is political and the pastor uncomfortably pushed the vaccine last time I went. If you're covered in the body and blood of Jesus Christ (like this church claims to believe) then you should trust that you are covered in all aspects in your life including health. Also, it should be between you and God what you want to put in your body or don't. God doesn't condemn you so no one should feel guilty for getting the vaccine or vice versa not getting the vaccine. I personally did not feel this guilt or condemnation because I am free in Jesus' name but can't imagine guests, new believers , baby Christians feeling uncomfortable or turned off from his message. It seemed like the pastor's agenda was just wanting to get people back inside his church physically and to see seats filled bc that's how he relayed his vaccine message. However, the point of church is to first worship God and it doesn't matter where it is being done (at home or another building). I gave it two stars because the choir/orchestra/praise team was amazing and they are not ashamed to show that they love our God through their beautiful music. I won't be going back though bc the pastor's message about the vaccine at the end didn't match his sermon which was about the word of God. So to me he didn't seem genuine and like he was pushing an agenda. Keep it about Jesus always first and foremost. You don't work for the government, you work for God and God only. We all do! If you are a person reading this that is starting a journey with Jesus and are having doubts/questions/etc. That is normal and ok, but also know that humans have their own perceptions and interpretations of who Jesus is and it is not always right, but it is good to hear it all bc in a way it strengthens your faith. Once you talk to God and read the Bible to learn about Jesus you will find out the truth and know when humans are playing you. Stay encouraged on your journey and go learn about Him whenever you can. He will show you the 100% truth. read more

I went there this morning and everyone was very nice. Governor Huckabee also spoke and I consider him to be a very nice guy after hearing him. Did you know his daughter is Sarah Huckabee Sanders? isn't that great? I don't think Huckabee goes there all the time but Pastor Jeffers gave a great sermon on anxiety and actually doing these riviews lowers my anxiety so I'm going to keep it up! read more

I've attended First Baptist for over 10 years. It's the people that keep me coming every week as we have found a family of support and encouragement. They aren't perfect. If you are looking for gossipers then you will find them. If you are looking for hypocrites then you will find them. If you are looking for folks who act like life is perfect when it's not then you will find them. Just like any other place. However, if you are looking for true folks who care and who seek to know God and do his will then you will find them. If you are looking for a home where the word of God is taught and sought then you will find it here. One of the reviews mentioned the sermon, "Gay is not okay" and it sure caught a lot of attention. Many if not most of us members were taken back by it as was the media given it's politically incorrect to say the least. Unfortunately many stopped there. Given the volatility of the topic, I understand why they stopped. However, had they come in and listened then they would have heard that yes, the bible teaches homosexuality is a sin, but so is divorce, pre-marital sex, adultery, pornography and any other perversion that alters God's plan of marriage. Many church goers try to make homosexuality into some unforgivable sin, but think divorce is common and okay. The pastor used the title to get everyone to show up and listen and then pointed out the hypocrisy in our views. The sermon series of about 10 various volatile topics was titled "Politically Incorrect" and though having a marquee that said, divorce is not okay would have fit the sermon, it wouldn't have caught anyones attention. All of which made us uncomfortable, but all of which came back to what exactly the bible teaches and what it doesn't on certain topics. Fact is, all sin separates us from the love of God and without the free gift of salvation through Jesus Christ there is no hope for any of us. Dr. Jeffress hit a very controversial topic and then when he had everyones attention, positive and negative, he shined the light on the full hypocrisy of sin that there are many and one is not necessarily worse then the other as they all separate us from God and at the end of the day isn't that the point? This church has met a need in our life and has allowed us to make some of our best friends while finding like minded folks who want to walk closer with God. They aren't perfect, but in our darkest hours and those of many of our friends, it was folks from FBC Dallas who stood in the gap praying for us and meeting our literal needs because they care. They have a great childrens department along with youth, college, singles, retirees and young married folks. There is also the largest church building campaign in recorded history going on right now. This is not an attempt at anything other than to commit to staying in the heart of the city. When churches are moving to the suburbs FBC committed and paid the dues in order to stay downtown and to do so for generations to come. It's not just a family of believer's, it's our family. read more

The choir and orchestra is very very good. Jefferess' messages are bold and straight to the point. Each person is entitled to his/her own opinion, and are openly allowed to display that opinion. However, I believe that this statement should not be applied to people who preach the Word of God because His word is holy. Although Jeffress includes some political views into his sermons, he does not let those views stain the words of God. Instead, the pastor distinctively tells his people that these views and opinions are his. read more

A great baptist church in downtown Dallas with exegetical preaching which Pastor Jeffress uses Hebrew and proper hermeneutics to deliver a message to his congregation. The younger co-pastors need to make some changes in their hermeneutics before they one day begin to preach at the pulpit. The younger ones still have a lot of pride and lack of understanding in Calvinism. While the church is under Jeffress' leadership, it is worth being a member here. I only hope the pastor in the future will carry on the task of reputable preaching. read more

If the teaching of God's holy word offends find another church less Bible based. Dr. Jeffress preaches with intelligence, cogency and passion. The physical church is beautiful and easy to use. With lots of provided parking and is one of the easiest inner city churches in America to use. As a guest you will find members incredibly friendly and passionate about the church. Members live all over the metroplex, many driving an hour or more to attend services multiple times each week. This is a big church that provides whatever you may be looking for but with the heart and soul of something smaller and more personal. HUGE, beautiful church. I don't go much nowadays, but this particular congregation was so friendly and receptive. I came here on a non-service day, and there were still plenty of people on and about the campus. The staff also had no qualms about taking the time out of their day to tell me about the services and give a complete tour. Very nice, and definitely representative of Christ. My review is not based on the architecture of the new building (which I believe happens to be great), nor the temporary inconvenience the construction presents. My review is based on what the church offers to any and all who choose to attend. Dr. Jeffress teaches the message of hope and love that is taken directly from the bible. We believe in absolutes, and consequences to our actions. We believe we are all in need of a savior, and our congregation is open and public to all who wish to know what goes on here on Sunday mornings. My wife and i have been listening to Dr. Jeffress on Pathway to Victory for several years and been wanting to attend this church. Finally we start attending FBD since February..... we love it and have also registered as members here. Living in Arlington and we thought the drive would be too far but truly it's well worth it. Dr. Jeffress is a genuine God-fearing Bible-believing servant of HIS kingdom. And the warmth of the welcome staff here is beyond words. As for parking, there are several free parking garages nearby, not as complicated as you might think. We usually attends the 9:15 am traditional worship and then Growing in Faith Sunday school. The choir was huge the singing was okay there was one singer who was leading tried to put some spunk into a song i mean add a little something so you can feel the spirit there or something. This is for everyone, but especially so for the ones that are angry/bitter/ upset with Pastor Jeffress political statements. Dr. Jeffress does not directly support Trump as the president. He stands up for what the truth of the Bible says, which most of the time (not always) lines up with republican beliefs, (example- abortions, gay couples, etc.) With that said, Trump is of the Republican Party and also stands against the examples I used. Yes, Trump has said and done immoral things. However, the Bible says no matter who is in charge of our country, republican or Democrat, or a candidate you just don't like, that you need to respect them and follow the laws of our land. Jeffress does not even affiliate himself with any political party. We are all sinful in nature and Jeffress is aware of Trumps words and actions, but in no way condones his sins and has publicly said that. Even if you think Jeffress comes off as judgmental, hateful, etc., he it is not. He doesn't sugar coat his preachings, but gives you the straight truth so that people will acknowledge their sin and come to Christ. Regardless, Jeffress is a true man of God. He is forgiving and loving of anybody no matter who they are or what they've done. He even willing and happily accepted an invite to be a guest on Bill Maher's TV show, who is a known atheist. It's goes to show through his actions that he loves people and is curious to know about everyone. With all of this, I hope you are not quick to judge Dr. Jeffress with limited knowledge of him. read more

I can't believe this Church has the congregation that it does. I went to one service and for the first time in a long time, I really felt my heart break. I felt like I was standing amongst a real cult. The very beginning of the service Jeffress was speaking about how every other church goer, but HIS people were going to Hell, including Catholics which really surprises me considering Catholics are Christian. Moving on he starts talking about how you need to give away ALL your money to church and how he gave away all his money to the church and someone came up to him at a gas station and wrote him a check that was bigger than what he gave to the church. Okay first of all, that didn't happen. Second of all, if it did happen, you shouldn't share it with your congregation to guilt them into tithing more than what they can afford. read more

I am a regular viewer. The service begins with outstanding music conducted by both a large choir and a full orchestra that in itself is worth tuning in for. The music is always followed by an inspirational and moving sermon by Dr. Jeffress that can inspire his listeners across the world on how to live a more Godly life. On occasion there will be a guest of some notoriety that will either present the sermon or be interviewed by Dr. Jeffress. The guests share inspirational messages from their personal life experiences from which I always take away something of value. Dr. Jeffress' knowledge of the Bible and even ancient languages is impressive. I believe he could recite the Bible by heart. Listening to him has brought me much closer to God and much more aware of how and why I should be living a more Godly life. I thank him for that. read more

I am not a member of this church but we have a funny story about the time we stopped in to find a bathroom. We are from LA and it does not get cold there. It is January and we are freezing so we put on almost every piece of clothing we owned which made us look like crazy homeless people. Sunday morning and this church is the only thing open. We try to sneak in quietly and find the restroom. While looking for the bathroom my friend finds a room with a beautiful grand piano. He was timid at first but then begins to play. A crowd gathered and thinks it is some sort of a miracle that the homeless man came to play on their piano. They were applauding and shaking his hand even though they thought he was homeless. Very nice welcoming people. Also, it is a beautiful building with a giant pipe organ and hand carved wood. read more

I'm from small town Oregon. Visiting Dallas First Baptist was amazing. I was so warmly welcomed and a greeter escorted me to the sanctuary so I wouldn't get lost. It is a beautiful church, grand music and multi-media. With all the "shine", what I experienced were people who truly love God and are committed in their faith. I'm not a super holy roller. They weren't either. I had a wonderful morning and left humming on my way back to my hotel and conference. If you visit Dallas, I recommend this church for your Sunday morning --it was beautiful. I'm not a member of this church, neither am I Baptist so I'll limit my review. Decided to check this place out during its Easter Day grand opening. It's a nice building, the fountain out front is worth checking out - reminds me of the dancing fountain in front of Bellagio in Las Vegas. The setup where the service takes place is especially nice (take a look at the photos provided by others) with the screens and the lights, they can definitely keep the churchgoers attentive. I went to FBD for yrs. I NEVER was thanked by Pastor Jeffries for giving my will to all I have-he wouldn't even stop to talk with me or thank me but rushed away. I was dragged out of 2 sermons-once for taking water into the service as I have epilepsy created by music, lawnmowers, vacuum cleaners and such sound when loud and needed water to take a seizure pill if needed I also gave him a video of Lamb & Lion ministry where he gave a sermon I was humiliated and by their security dragged out in front of everyone!! I went to Israel with his congregation-he was walking just a few feet in front of me and another person and NEVER once turned to speak with us but once spoke but not stopping to walk with us or looking at us. He only constantly wanted money and growing in popularity. I was ashamed as he truly is not a preacher of God. His sermon were good but all for show and NEVER missed a chance to go on Fox TV to get attention but never taking time to listen and help his people like Jesus our Lord did.
