***4.5 STARS*** The…read moreother month I was invited to a so-called "retirement" party that ended up being a celebration of a blessed marriage with family and friends. This is a dear former colleague of mine where I saved the date. When I formally received the invitation I saw the venue and asked myself "Where is that?" Oahu Veterans Center (OVC) is a conveniently located venue in the Salt Lake area which has 2 large halls to host gatherings. They are adjacent to ample parking where it was super crowded that day but the grounds were marked to facilitate overflow of cars for those who arrived later. It was my first time here at OVC where I found the venue spacious, clean and the grounds well kept. I initially went to the wrong party as I didn't know there are several halls here. While standing in line I realized it was for a high school graduation party which clearly wasn't the event I was invited to. I made my way to the other hall where I saw a large banner with my friend's name. There's a kitchen that's adjoining to the hall. Food that evening was catered by Guieb Cafe. Our meal was buffet style where the kitchen sure came in handy with food being replenished periodically throughout the event. It was warm outside that day but the venue has decent air conditioning where we sat down in comfort throughout the event during dinner, slide show and hula performances. Overall, a great first time at OVC where I'd be game for a return visit. This is definitely a venue I'd consider if I wanted to host an event.

This one is located in the salt lake area and the name is Oahu Veterans Center the other off sand island is the Disabled Veterans Center. We were surprised when we got there it has a park and large parking area. The hall is air conditioned and the hall was clean with large restrooms located outside of the hall. They brought in their own food and pupu and they had shave ice, pop corn, cotton candy, pork hash and full bar! Restroom was clean and handicap accessible.

It is a safe environment that feels like a small community. I truly believe that it takes a village to raise a child and I am so thankful for this school to help us raise our kids with good morals of just being loving and caring, just like Jesus did. I was worried about some private schools being politically charged but this school feels so safe and just focuses on teaching about God in a loving, non-condemning way. We are members of another baptist church but we don't feel any pressure to join their church either. My son is diagnosed autistic with ADHD and needs ABA therapy at school but the school was so accommodating, they helped us with our individual needs and the teachers are always willing to take that extra time and effort to work with the ABA therapist and set up meetings with us parents to see if our son needs medication adjustments. Thanks to the extraordinary support from the school staff, especially Ms. DK, my son has improved dramatically and we are so thankful for their continued support. Once you meet Ms. DK, you'll feel like you've been friends with her for a long time!!! She is that charismatic and caring!! Not only are the staff so nice, I don't think I have met a group of kids so sweet and nice. From 8th grade to preschool, this school is so good at encouraging kindness and understanding. I have never met teenagers so nice and polite!! They also encourage the older students to be chapel buddies with the younger kids so it is amazing to have amazing role models for the younger kids. Ms. Anu is an amazing science teacher and has many STEM activities and many students get awards when they attend the competitions locally and nationally. It's is a great opportunity for our kids to practice presenting their research and innovations at a young age! Ok, I can gush forever but it's getting too long so I'll stop. My kids will be attending here until 8th grade so feel free to catch me at this school if you want to hear more

Celebration of Life in Aiea, Oahu, Hawaii…read more.. My parents' friends are passing away. It's sad because I know that my mom's turn will be coming... eventually... However, right now, I'm glad that I'm able to go with mom to these Memorial Services where she can see the friends that are still living. They don't get together as much anymore. It's too bad because they (The Gang) were very sociable in the past. Anyway... One of the members of their gang was Uncle Eric. He and his family are members of St. Elizabeth Church, so Uncle Eric's Memorial Service was held there. St. Elizabeth Church is a more established parish... they will actually be celebrating 100 years in 2025! They have a school in the next building. We weren't able to park there - which is good. We don't want to disturb the students. The parking lot for the church is before both church and school buildings. I drove slowly along the beginning of Moanalua Road and saw the sign for the parking lot. Right outside of the church, the family of Uncle Eric provided refreshments. We walked upstairs to the reception table, signed in, and then entered the air-conditioned church with beautiful stained glass windows and old school wooden pews. The lighting and sound system were good! We enjoyed a slide show of family photos! The musicians were stationed in the front on the right side. Everything went well! Afterward, the outdoor snack area had bento boxes and bottled water for guests to take home. Note: Restrooms were on the ground level by the Social Hall. I found a sign and followed the arrow... I'll have to return for a regular Sunday service. St. Elizabeth Church has a new, young priest, Father Arrion, who has a wonderful singing voice and threw some Latin passages into the mass! I was impressed!

Quite some time ago, Sandals had a guest pastor visiting from Hawaii. Pastor Wayne shared a message that coincided with his book, Divine Mentor, and I remember leaving that day feeling incredibly blessed. Then, during a trip to Hawaii in 2022, I wanted to attend New Hope Church in Oahu. I drove all the way there... and then drove right past it because I was too scared to walk in alone. This year, I've been praying for courage. I've been asking God to help me do the things that stretch me, the things I don't always feel confident enough to do. Today, I finally walked through the doors of New Hope. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed with so much kindness. They placed a shell lei around my neck, took the time to talk with me, and made me feel like I belonged. I couldn't help but tear up. It reminded me so much of what Sandals felt like 15 years ago, the warmth, the authenticity, the love, and the joy of being surrounded by people who genuinely reflect the heart of Jesus. God showed up in a mighty way. The first song alone was confirmation He knows me and my fears and blesses my willingness to walk through them and in these doors. I'm so thankful I didn't let fear win this time. God continues to show me that courage isn't about having no fear, it's about trusting Him enough to take the next step anyway. So much to be grateful for. Giving thanks to Him for it all. The good and the not so good. I know He has a plan. #gratitude #faith #courage #newhopeoahu
