Tourists, if you're looking for a unique, handmade Alaskan gift, this place should be your first stop. I'm pretty sure 100% of their items are made in Alaska, by local Alaskan artists, artisans and crafters. Admittedly they don't have Native Alaskan Crafts, but they are very heavy on Alaskan themed art. Items range from under 10 dollars to several thousand and there's nothing pretentious about this gallery. It's all acessible and gorgeous. Items run the gamut: stationary, jewelry, glass, sculpture, paintings, textiles, home decor, photography, clothing, beauty products... so many things I can't name them all. Alaskan themes are abundant, birch, halibit, salmon, Denali, Anchorage, snow, mountains, moose, ect. If you wanna buy me something I'll love, start here. It's a shame it's so far down 4th Avenue next to the dusty old abandoned 4th Ave Theater, because a lot of people miss this place because of its location. Seek it out, you won't regret it.

5 Stars AK&Co Gourmet Market…read more AK&Co Gourmet Market at the airport is an absolute gem the kind of place you wander into thinking you'll just browse, and suddenly you're walking out feeling like you've discovered Alaska's hidden treasure chest. Their gift shop game is elite: clean, organized, full of unique local goodies, and stocked with the kind of stuff you actually want to give as gifts instead of the usual airport knick-knacks. From the moment you step in, it feels like a little slice of Alaska's charm wrapped up in one perfectly curated shop. And let's talk about that Alaskan salami with reindeer meat pure, undefeated, top-tier greatness. I'm telling you, it's the kind of snack that makes you forget you're in an airport and instead makes you feel like you're on a culinary expedition through the Last Frontier. Flavorful, rich, and honestly one of the best things you can grab before a flight. Big credit to AK&Co for keeping quality alive and making the airport experience something you actually look forward to.

Don't expect a mega-tourist trinket trap, but do expect a small selection of informative books, maps, and some hiking accessories. Memberships to the organization are also on sale here, and I am proud to say that I am now a member. $35 buys a basic membership which includes a subscription to Alaska magazine, and a reusable shopping bag. Just the value of the magazine is almost worth the membership fee. Always a supporter for a good cause, I opted for a little higher level, and got a couple of logo pins as well. It also comes with a 15% discount on merchandise, and another discount for their educational programs. As I said, the shop is small and they are just getting settled into their new digs. Maybe not worth a trip on its own, but the Ulu Factory is right next door. So, if you're in the area anyway, it's worth a side trip.
