They host lots of live music nights with the latest talents from Sussex and beyond. Reflected in their creative, quirky decor it's clear the owners have a lot of imagination. I have enjoyed many a fun night in here and always feel really comfortable in their it's got a good energy. Also, they serve good food at lunch time if you want a light bite to eat. One tip I would give though, is that as it's a cafe-bar, it's not half as big as Concorde, so if you go to a gig at Blind Tiger, it's best to get there a bit earlier.

We were a large group of 20 so booked well in advance and from the moment we arrived we were easily accommodated and looked after. A few people arrived late after the main group but this was no problem at all. The place itself isn't massive but it really adds to the feel and acoustics. The cover of darkness didn't help at all in the end and a few of the group took a verbal stripdown for their terrible dress sense. We all had some food whilst we were there and it was exactly as you would expect, nothing to write home about but served a purpose and was perfect for us. Beer prices weren't too bad as we were buying plenty of the 5 pint pitchers and sharing them around. I hadn't heard of any of the comedians on stage before and was very impressed by the standard, they all had me laughing all night long and each one was totally different to the last. I'm not an easy-please when it comes to comedy either. Like I said, we all had a quality night and it didn't break the bank.

The Komedia is a little scruffy around the edges, but that's Brighton for you. The building has two performance venues, an independently-run cafe bar and foyer bar (and feels much larger inside than its modest facade implies). They also provide food during some performances with a caberet-style setting. But it's the entertainment you come here for, not the surroundings. The staff seem friendly enough, although not always fantastically efficient - on-line booking isn't always available, for example. Arrive with plenty of time for comedy performances, as the best seating gets taken early on. (You can always have a drink while you wait.) If, like me, you have a large, illuminated, 'pick on me' sign on your head which only the performer can see, you'll need to tuck yourself away somewhere inconspicuous...

Designed by Charles Busby in 1828, it's a Grade II listed building that's been beautifully renovated and maintained. Since the late nineties, it's been a thriving arts centre for locals and vistors. Open all year round, the theatre shows live music, drama, comedy, dance and literary events. Soul legends like Candi Staton and Marlena Shaw have graced the stage alongside contemporary rock, pop, jazz and classical musicians. I've been to a couple of different events and I'd definitely go back. My only grumble is that it lacks the intimacy and atmosphere of other venues in the city. The theatre itself can feel like a big village hall, especially when it's not full and the bar is quite limited. If you like a G&T you're fine but if you want an Absolut vodka with cranberry and a slice of lime, you'll go thirsty.

A month long festival that takes place every September, it sets out to champion the best local food producers, farmers, market traders, chefs, bakers, cooks and restaurants in the South East. Aside from the Big Sussex Market where you can sample and buy food directly from the producers, there's free tasting sessions and demonstrations from top chefs, themed events and one off collaborations. Leading restaurants like Terre A Terre, Drakes and Due South usually offer special one-off menus too. The only downside of the whole festival is you might need to invest in a pair of elasticated pants. How else are you gonna enjoy all the gourmet treats on offer?!

As well as huge food markets specialising in local producers and supplies, the festival host events such as Restaurant Week, live food shows and various other specialist events , working closely with local restaurants. This year, they have put on Christmas mini markets at the train station over the first three weekends on December. Unfortunately, these do appear to be a little too mini - does four stalls really count as a food market?! That said, large or small, I always seem to spend a small fortune at these events, but I do come home with a great selection of artisan food products.

The interior is beautiful with ornate decorations and furnishings typical of the Regency period. The theatre hosts a wide variety of companies and performances, including comedies, tragedies and musicals from the West End. They also produce their own plays. The last thing I saw here was 'Blood Brothers', a couple of years ago. The musical itself was good, but I was far more interested in soaking up the atmosphere and history of this wonderful theatre. The seats are a little uncomfortable for long performances, but it's a small price to pay. With an impressive rolling calender of performances, the Theatre Royal will have something to suit everyone throughout the year. In the run up to Christmas, the theatre will welcome 'Peter Pan' - I can't think of a more magical place to enjoy this classic children's story! Watch out for Beauty and the Beast next summer too- it's on for one week only in June 2010.

The atmosphere inside is fantastic and when you step into it you immediately feel a shift in your mood as I always seem to when I got to places with so much history. This is truly one of Brighton's must go places if you want to get a night that you will remember. It is situated so close to the town centre and is very close to the train and bus services so there are no excuses for those who do not have their own transport. With numerous hotels nearby it would be a great way to get away from the norm. Front row seats in this place are like gold dust because you almost feel involved in the performance. However, as it isn't that large any seat wouldn't effect the performance.
